This site was first established in April 2008, almost a year before the first episode went to air. Since that time it has continued to grow and we have new members joining in the forums each week and many new visitors to the site each day.

Unfortunately the growth has come at a cost and we’ve outgrown a shared (ie, cheap) hosting environment.

As some of you will be aware, every Monday night we host a live chat session during the episodes. This has always been a lot of fun and has been becoming more popular each week. The chat room has been open at all times and for significant parts of each day Castle fans could be found chatting about Castle and life and developing new friendships.

Anyone who was in our live episode chat last night will know that it went kind of crazy. We had lots of people come in and it crashed the server. Unfortunately I had to make a deal with the hosting company to disable the chat room to avoid the castletv.net hosting account being cancelled permanently. Of course, this is pretty sad news for the regular chatters, for all those newbies who had stopped by this week and also for all those planning to attend our special guest chat with Castle producer/writer Terri Miller on Wednesday.

The good news is I’ve started the process of moving the site to a dedicated server which should (in theory) solve these issues and allow a lot more people to chat at once and allow the site plenty of room to grow. The down side is that the cost is nearly $200 a month (it’s a managed dedicated server because I don’t have the skills or time available to fully manage a server myself). While I will do my best to cover the costs personally as I have since the beginning, I know I’m not going to be able to cover the full cost so will be asking anyone who is in a position to be able to, to consider contributing a small donation if they would like to support the site.

I had a feeling this day was coming and it’s something that I am very reluctant to do because I don’t want anyone to feel like they aren’t welcome here if they’re unable to contribute anything. We’re living in difficult financial times and I know many can’t help, and I know others won’t want to contribute and that’s ok too but if anyone feels they can contribute a little it would be very much appreciated.

If by any chance we receive more than required to cover the hosting for the first 12 months, we will donate any additional funds to Kids Need to Read. It seems an appropriate charity to support as Nathan Fillion helped to found the organization and of course, his character Richard Castle is an author! I’m sure Castle wouldn’t hesitate to support an organisation that gives all kids the opportunity to enjoy reading!
