Sunday July 25th Castle made its first appearance at the San Diego Comic Con. Several fans camped out overnight and others began arriving around 5am to get into the panel which started at 10:30. Before 10am the lines were closed as the room was already at capacity (more than 2000 people) and some disappointed fans were turned away.
As everyone entered to be seated they were presented with an exclusive gift from ABC, a specially designed water bottle with the Castle logo on each side. 200 lucky attendees found autograph tickets inside their gifts to be used in the autograph session following the panel.
The panel was introduced by moderator William Keck from TV Guide Magazine who then showed us a new extended promo for Castle followed by a video from Castle himself, promoting “Heat Wave” to us via the Hamptons and kicking of the Summer Twitter Mystery. (Don’t forget you can follow what happens after that video on Twitter WriteRCastle).
Each of the cast and crew attending was introduced as they came on stage including “Lieutenant Uhura” which confused people until Molly Quinn walked on stage looking very impressive and appropriately dressed for Comic Con in her Star Trek uniform. Panellists included: Andrew Marlowe (Showrunner), Laurie Zaks (Executive Producer), Stana Katic (Det. Kate Beckett), Nathan Fillion (Richard Castle), Jon Huertas (Det. Javier Esposito), Seamus Dever (Det. Kevin Ryan), Tamala Jones (ME Lanie Parish) and Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle).
The panel continued with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic reading a steamy but family-appropriate chapter from the novel “Heat Wave” which produced from audience members and panellists a great deal of laughter.
William Keck then asked members of the panel various questions and showed a sneak peak at a tour around the morgue with Seamus Dever (Ryan) and Jon Huertas (Esposito) which will be featured on the Season 2 DVD set available for pre-order here. A trailer for the “Heat Wave” movie was also shown.
The floor was then opened up for members of the audience to approach the microphone and ask their own questions. Nathan Fillion began giving gifts to people who asked questions which included some items that got a great reaction from the audience. These included “Double Rainbow Maker”, Nathan’s used party wristbands and even his own eyebrow hairs in a jar collected in the makeup trailer on set.
There was a lot of friendly banter between the cast and crew and the family-like atmosphere they have developed in the time they have worked together showed through. There were couple of shout-outs to the writers, particularly Terri Miller who wrote some of the fans’ favourite episodes which received great applause from the crowd.
The panel was finished off with a sneak peek at the season opener.
After the panel the cast and crew fulfilled their press obligations (look for interviews here soon) and went on to the autograph session with the 200 lucky ticket recipients.
You can listen to audio of the entire panel (minus the on screen promos/videos) below:

Thank you Admin for the coverage! Now it’s easy to find these things on the forum, but after a few months this summary will be the easiest way if I want to see them again.
Oh wow, Thanks guys. I really wish I could’ve been there… Sometimes it sucks living in Australia…
Listening to the mp3 right now. I am at the part where Nathan is reading from Heat Wave. So awesome. Thank you so much for recording and for posting. This Castle fan is looking forward to season 3!

Thanks so much Admin for all your hard work….I could never in a million years even imagine all the chaos at Comic Con. Way too many people for me. So happy to have you do all the foot work for us OCD fans! You’re the best!
Hugs!!
My jaw dropped when I saw the sneak peak for season 3, and I couldn´t close it. o.O haha I am counting the days!!
Thanks so much for sharing in so much detail!
I think it was great the way Molly Quinn came out in the Lt. Uhura costume. That was not an easy thing to do especially considering she was the only one at the panel dressed up for Comic-con.
Someone could have at least worn some Spock ears. BAAAAD Nathan. Leave the kid standing there by herself.
I do wish I could have heard Nathan Fillion reading from Naked Heat. He has a wonderfully rich voice.
Thrilled more than ever!! I am so psyched about the 3rd season. Hopefully they’ll have 25+ episodes! This crime series is going to be very popular!!!
