Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children ages 1 to 14 in the United States. This reality fuels our endeavors. As the leading referral center in the West for the diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of childhood cancers, the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is working hard to prepare children for life as young adults. And research is a key focus of the Center—its “bench-to-bedside” approach to researchhelps move the best ideas from the laboratory to the patient in the form of promising new treatments.

It’s also a cause that is very near and dear to all of our hearts. Everyone on this team is either an employee, a family member of friend of an employee, or even a family member of a patient treated by this special hospital. Last year, our team raised more than $177,000 dollars in support of pediatric cancer research, winning the corporate fundraising challenge. We hope to do even better this year—because children with cancer deserve our support!

Founded in 1901, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is the first and largest pediatric hospital in Southern California. The hospital is one of only eight children’s hospitals in the U.S. good enough to be ranked “Best” on the prestigious U.S. News & World Report “Honor Roll.”

Katic says of the character, “She’s a good girl who has naughty habits” she said, “She has questionable loyalties you never know if she’s on the good side or bad side  throughout the story and that makes it really fun to play and keeps the mystery going.”

“She’s kind of an ambiguous international character so we created a bit of an accent for her, a mix of sort of Persian/Greek accent” something that was more ancient feeling.”

The panel moderator suggested that she’d be great to play a live action version of the character and the crowd clearly agreed.

You have worked with Nathan Fillion three times (He played her husband on Desperate Housewives, her lover in Pasadena, and Richard Castle against her FBI agent Jordan Shaw on Castle.) Might he appear on your show?

Delany: I would love it. I suggested it on Twitter that Mr. Castle should come to our coroner’s office to investigate something; maybe he’s writing a book about a medical investigator. I think that would be really fun!
