Golden State Explains Love Song January 15th, 2010

Golden State

Since the “Castle” first aired in March 2009 with the pilot episode “Flowers For Your Grave”  viewers have made a lot of noise about the music used throughout the series.   “Castle” received an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Music Composition For A Series” in 2009 and is expected to be nominated again in 2010.  Each week following a new episode fans can be see scouring the internet for details about songs used in the series.

This week, following the airing of “A Rose for Everafter” the internet exploded with viewers eager to find details about the song used in the final wedding scene.  CastleTV.net credited the song as “Love Song” by Golden State as did the ABC in their Castle Music Lounge however confused fans suggested that the information must have been incorrect, particularly considering lead vocalist in the song is female and Golden State is a male band.

James Grundler, composer of “Love Song” and primary songwriter for Golden State has responded exclusively to CastleTV.net to provide a little background on the song.

This is James from Golden State and yes, you guessed it, that’s not me singing Love Song. I had this song idea and it just didn’t feel right with my voice so we decided to experiment with a female voice – her name is Holly Conlan. It finally feels ‘right’ and I am really glad you like it – it fit so well in the wedding scene.

You can stream the track on the Golden State website.  The song will be available for purchase soon, to be notified when it becomes available join Golden State’s Facebook page.

Good News for Castle January 13th, 2010

The return of season 2 of Castle last night after a four week holiday hiatus saw a positive response from viewers with almost nine and a half million people tuning in and a  ratings share of  2.6/7 in the 18-49 demographic.  The episode was ranked by viewers posting to Twitter as one of the best of the series so far.

Following on from the positive ratings news Castle was highlighted at the TCAs (Television Critics Association Press Tour) today by ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson who said “Andrew Marlowe [Creator]  has done great job of growing those characters. And I hear so much anecdotal support for the show, it’s great.”

McPherson also said of  Castle, “We’re excited by the show, Nathan is fantastic and I think his chemistry with Stana is great. I think tonally, there’s not a lot of shows on like it. Probably Bones is the only other show with that tone and we’ve seen what a success Bones has been. It’s a warrior for Fox.”

An announcement was also made that the second Richard Castle Nikki Heat novel is due to be released late in September, one year on from the release of  Heat Wave.  Heat Wave appeared almost immediately in the New York Times Bestseller list and has remained in the list for 14 weeks.  Castle has already started making references to the new “Heat” novel with this week’s episode “A Rose for Everafter” mentioning what’s coming up in chapter 6.

Further news leaked today by Ausiello is the guest star appearance of Dana Delany in two episodes of Castle.  Nathan Fillion played opposite Delany in season 4 of Desperate Housewives.  The guest appearance will be for a two part episode which in a unique move will air on consecutive nights.  The first part will air on Sunday night (Mar 21) following Desperate Housewives with the second part airing in Castle’s regular time slot on Monday night (Mar 22). Delany will play Federal Agent Jordan Shaw.

While no announcement has been made for a third season of Castle there’s no denying that all this positive news is an encouraging sign.

2.6/7

Dana Delany to Guest on Castle January 12th, 2010

Kinky ABC has OK’d a kind of “wife swap,” lending out Desperate Housewives‘ Dana Delany to Castle for two episodes, sources confirm to me exclusively.

But Delany won’t be playing Katherine Mayfair, she’ll be playing Federal Agent Jordan Shaw.

Why this almost unprecedented move? Try ulterior motives. The network likely is hoping that Delany’s presence will draw more eyeballs to Castle, particularly since her first episode will air on Sunday, March 21 at 10 pm/ET following — duh — Housewives. (Brothers & Sisters has the week off.) The Emmy winner’s second Castle, which reunites her with her Desperate ex, Nathan Fillion, will air in the series’ regular Monday-at-10 timeslot on March 22.

Monday’s a Happy Place January 11th, 2010

Matt Roush features “Castle” in his list of “Episodes that make Monday a happy place”

Castle (ABC, 10/9c) For a pleasant nightcap (while recording Leno and Conan to see what they have to say about the latest twists in NBC’s late-night mess), welcome this light-hearted mystery back from the holiday break with yet another first-rate guest star: Alyssa Milano as “the one who got away” from Nathan Fillion’s rakish Richard Castle. (He even dedicated a book to her back in the day.) She’s a bride-to-be who’s blushing after discovering the body of a dead bridesmaid—but the flush may also have something to do with Castle’s proximity, which doesn’t escape Beckett’s notice. “I didn’t think you went for ‘real’,” Beckett muses, impressed (and maybe a bit troubled?) by her realization that Castle’s not always as shallow in matters of the heart as he appears. The chemistry is kicking more than usual. Like Chuck, Castle is an unassuming, terrifically enjoyable sleeper that deserves to be a bigger hit.

Season 2 Castle Mini Marathon Chat December 28th, 2009

With no episode of Castle on air tonight we noticed Castle fans twittering things like “ACK! That’s terrible. What will I do with myself from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. *sigh*”.  So we have decided to host a mini marathon Castle chat. We’ll have a synchronized watching of 5 season 2 episodes of Castle starting at 9 pm Eastern Time (6 pm Pacific Time).  If you’ve never visited our chat room before this is a great opportunity to see what it’s like and perhaps more importantly get to know some other Castle fans.

You will need to have access to these episodes via either iTunes or DVR with the exception of any that are currently available on Hulu (Hulu is available to USA viewers only).

There were a number of requests to include “The Double Down” but as that episode airs next Monday so we’ll be chatting about it then!
