Disaster Relief Fundraiser

Australian Disaster Fundraiser

CastleTV.net is working with registered charity California Browncoats Inc to hold some auctions and raise funds for the Queensland flood victims.

Update: While our fundraiser focuses on the Queensland floods, since this disaster hit other parts of Australia have also been affected. Much of the western area of the state of Victoria has also been hit by the worst floods on record and this week northern Queensland is expecting a category 5 cyclone that is expected to be the worst on record and more destructive than Hurricane Katrina.  Other areas of the country are moving into high risk bushfire season.

Since  the floods started late December there have been 35 flood related deaths recorded  and more expected as cleanup and recovery continues. 5,400 houses   have  been flooded and another 21,000 have flood damage. Almost 6,000 people have had to flee their homes. About 90,000 kilometres (56,000  miles) of local   roads have been damaged and that does not include  damage to highways. A   total of 97 towns have been flooded or isolated  in the past eight weeks. Up to 1/3 of the entire country’s agriculture  has been affected in addition to the mining and tourism industries on  which the state of Queensland relies heavily.

You folks are so amazing. My house was flooded and we, among so many others, lost a lot of our things (well, lost is the wrong word… they’re just irreparably soggy). One of my friends had her home washed clean away.
The support of people around Australia and overseas is overwhelming and so touching.

Just wanted to let you know that we know that you’re out here supporting us and it makes us weepy explode to know that you have such big hearts and care so much.

    Thankyou a million billion,

    Jen

I hope you’re not far enough north to be affected by cyclone Yasi as well.

Wow that’s great your raising awareness to the qld floods castletv! I must say queensland has gone through a lot, especially with Cyclone Yasi coming a few hours. Best of luck Queenslanders. Everyone in Australia are thinking of you and many more from all over the world.

  4. Laura says:

    Hi,

Thanks for the prayers and donations. Excellent preparation has saved Queenslanders from loss of life from Cyclone Yasi. It was a huge storm 500km across with an eye on 50 km.

  5. Jennifer says:

No, most of those who were hit by the floods are in the SouthEast of the state and so were spared the destruction of Yasi. As Laura says, those in Far North Queensland had some time to prepare which helped keep people safe… there’s still a lot of damage to homes and infrastructure, and loss of property but those things are already being rebuilt and replaced.
