Any shot where you see large parts of the city and there are not characters from the show in them are going to be real NY shots, they use stock footage and also occasionally have someone shoot in NY for them. The rest is all in LA. There are very occasional scenes where I believe they digitally add NY features to the background of a scene

Its always neat to see places on street view.
Street view can be my 'new best friend' sometimes.
ETA: and just for fun….here is a pic on google maps comparing the distance away from the 9th precinct (the real one in NYC; the outside of the building was used for the first season) and the building that BEFU found.
Castle's 'apartment' is on the bottom of the map and the precinct is on the top of the map.

Just last week I was at an orchestra intensive that was on Broome a couple blocks away from Crosby. My friend and I got there early one morning, walked over, and took some pictures. It was kinda surreal (yaaa, I'm THAT nerdy). Its truly a gorgeous building though. Someone said that they thought castle would live in a "nicer" location, ive lived in NYC my whole life, and that area right there is the most gorgeous and prime vintage architecture. Yes, its not the upper upper east side own an entire building type thing, but Castle the character seems a little bit hipper, not quite so stuffy, thus the incredibly expensive SOHO loft. No offense or anything, just wanted to let you know that they chose the location really well. Can't get much better than that in terms of a building xD. *jealous*

Finally I arrived in NJ tomorrow i will travel to NYC and visit the site of the Castle Loft. Thanks in advance for the information you gave me so i can find it.

BTW,I always thought I recognized the street Beckett and Castle walk down into the Old haunt. I think it's in downtown Burbank on the top of the main street.

I am wondering about the distance between Castle's loft and Beckett's appartment.
They do come by eachother's loft/appartment every now and then, so is it actually close?

If you notice, most of the shots of the exterior of Castle's building are taken looking upward so you don't get a view of the street. Now I can see why! Still, nice to know where it is! Thanks for posting.
