In what other roles can you see Nathan and/or Stana?

OK I warn you mine are all going to be old and as it was the old world charm and chemistry that drew me to Castle; it is to those kind of roles that my mind flew when made aware of this topic. Thanks ACF. So here goes.

We all know Nick and Nora from the Thin Man of course but I can totally see Nathan and Stana in the roles that led Loy and Powell to the Thin Man – "Manhattan Melodrama", Loy starts out with bad boy Clark Gable but ends up with Good guy and Gable's boyhood friend Powell.  Loy and Powell's first scene together when she jumps into his cab, talk about chemistry, this was the scene that made studio executives take note of the pair, and the rest is history.

Staying with Loy and Powell they also did "Libeled Lady" in '36 with Spencer Tracey and Jean Harlow – pure gold, Loy and Powell end up together of course but it takes a while and Nathan and Stana would be great.

Sticking to my William Powell theme for the moment, his film "My Man Godfrey" '36 with then ex wife Carole Lombard is one of my favorites.  Society girl Lombard mistakes Millionaire Powell for a 'forgotten man' and employs him as the family butler. He is intrigued enough with her to go along with it, sound familiar.  It's dated in parts now but the interplay between Lombard and Powell is to die for and when he dumps her into the shower fully clothed – gold.

Lombard had a internal beauty that added layers to her obvious external beauty, I think Stana shares that with her so I could also see Stana and Nathan re do the Lombard and James Stewart roles in "Made for each other" '39 as earnest young parents trying to help their ill child. And I could definitely see Stana and Nathan in "In Name Only" '39 widowed Julie (Lombard in love with sadly and unhappily married Alec Cary Grant, good opportunity for great eye sex in this one.

One more Lombard film- the original 'Mr and Mrs Smith" '41 one of the few comedies directed by Alfred Hitchcock, who wanted to work with Lombard. Lombard and Robert Montgomery play a bickering married couple who have agreed to never part in the middle of a quarrel (even if it means spending 3 days in the bedroom) then he is told that due to a technicality they are not actually married. What he dosen't know is that Lombard has also been told this news. I love this film, it is one of those films that is much better thought of now than it was at the time. But Stana and Nathan would be perfect.

This is long and I apologise but I now move into my Hepburn phase and I would say- Bringing up Baby '38 just to see Stana with a leopard, and Nathan in glasses holding onto to Stana for dear life at the top of a swinging Dinosaur. Plus the classic ripped dress scene and their 'walking in sync' to cover it up. Gold.

Staying with Hepburn and Grant, Nathan and Stana would be great in Holiday '38, based on the play by Phillip Barry (like Philadelphia Story) but for me it has more 'heart' Blue collar Johnny (Grant) meets society girl Julia, gets engaged and taken home to meet the family where it becomes obvious that he is really much better suited to Julia's sister Linda (Hepburn). It's beautiful and it all works in the end.

Of course I have to mention 'the Philadelphia Story' Stana would be a great Tracey Lord and Nathan would be great in the Cary Grant role, though I would love to see him do Jimmy Stewarts part carrying Tracey back to the house where affected by wine she puts the moves on him. Then the next morning (when she can't remember the night before) and told nothing happened wants to know "why didn't we, was I so repolsive" and Stewarts (Mike Connors) responce about there being rules about that kind of thing.

Come to think of it I would love to hear Stana say Ingrid Bergmans line to Cary Grant in 'Indiscret' 58  "how dare you make love to me and not be a married man" love it.  And while on Bergman and Grant how about "Notorious '46" just to see Stana and Nathan re-create what was then the longest screen kiss, yes please.

I feel like I should stop but I can't without mentioning Hepburn and Tracey together. "Woman of the Year '42' would be great for Nathan as sports writer Sam and Stana as News reporter Tess. The film has a terrible ending that pandered to the sensibilities of the time (it was not the original ending intended) but would be worth re-doing just for the the scene when Sam first see Tess and the close up pan of Hepburn/Stana's legs, Nathan's reaction would be heaven to watch. Plus he looks great in a hat.

Another film based on a Phillip Barry play was "Without Love" again with Tracey and Hepburn and I can totally see Nathan as nerd goggle wearing Scientist Pat Jamison renting the basment for his work from Widow Jamie and sleeping in the spare bedroom, he sleep walks and guess where he goes… It's his little dog's job to wake him up before he gets himself into trouble.

Another Tracey/Hepburn would of course be "Adams Rib"'49 as married attorney's (Adam and Amanda Bonner) on opposite sides of a case.  This would be gold for Nathan and Stana.  By the By I'm sure the reason Kate Jackson's character on Scarecrow and Mrs King was called Amanda was because Jackson was/is a huge Hepburn fan.

Finally I could see Stana in the Gene Tienery role in 'Ghost and Mrs Muir" '47 not sure about Nathan in the Rex Harrison Captain's role but I bet he could find a way to pull it off.  Tierney again had that very intense beauty in close up that Stana has.  And finally if we want serious or even evil Stana what about the Tierney's role in 'Leave her to Heaven' It would be Stana in Ice mode and she could pull it off.

Wow sorry to be so long, I could go on and on but don't worry I won't.  I do watch films past 1960, just not as often.  Oh I do like "The Abyss" and could see Nathan in the Ed Harris role and Stana in the Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio role, that would be fun.

OK really done now.

When I check comic book sites I'm surprised how many people want to see Stana as Elektra.

I can see her as Lara Croft, Talia Al Ghul, as well as a Bond Girl.

Lara Croft… I played (I think) the first five parts of the game and I love Stana, but without "enhancements" she's not Lara's body. As a Bond girl she is OK, but hopefully not the one who is killed instantly after 007 bedded her [Image Can Not Be Found].

If a game/comics character, to me Triss Merigold comes to my mind from The Witcher game (or the original Lady Yennefer from the book). Since I have heard of her voice acting in Arkham, I hoped that maybe she will be asked for this role.

skyisblue, those are wonderful!  I am not a hepburn fan outside of her Tracey movies (because he could handle her) but I loved her in The Holidiay!  And well, it's Cary Grant!

ANd all the others… I have a few new ones to watch… Hello, Netflix?  [Image Can Not Be Found]

Technically, Stana Katic has already been a Bond girl, as she played the Canadian secretary that is being seduced for information by the same guy that corrupted Vesper.  It's a small role, and she only has one line (I think), but it was a good scene.

I'd love to see them do remakes of either "Hart to Hart", "Remington Steele", or even "Moonlighting", though the two of them would probably make a great Buck Rogers and Wilma Deering as well.

That's true, Hepburn needs a strong foil Male or Female. Have you seen "Stage Door" RKO film from '37 One of my very favorites. Hepburn and Ginger Rogers, both in top form and a supporting cast that includes Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Ann Miller, and Andrea Leeds.  Rogers could handle her. And it was the start of what I call her Golden run – Stage Door, Bringing up Baby, Holiday, The Philadelphia Story then Woman of the Year. Of course at the time she was box office poison. Time has changed that perception.

Great post skyisblue1.  It has been years since I have done a good run of old movies, and now I have quite a few to watch again and a handful of new ones…you have certainly put me in the mood!  The old world charm and banter that you mention drew me to Castle as well, and my mom introduced me to quite a few old movies when I was a kid…lots of Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Doris Day/Rock Hudson, and Rogers/Astaire.  Nathan and Stana could play the classic Hollywood romantic comedy banter so well.

The TV show Moonlighting found ways to have David and Maddie play at some classic pieces…from the Taming of the Shrew to a black and white episode to a Big Man on Mulberry Street dance number.  That show was more screwball than Castle, and pretty daring with the risks it took…and they liked dream sequences.  I'm not sure it would work with Castle to try some things like that, but it sure would be fun to watch Stana and Nathan act in them.

I loved Stage Door!  Yes, I think Rogers could handle just about anyone, including Hepburn.  And Bringing up Baby was so much fun to watch.  I loved Philadelphia Story but mostly for everyone else.  I know it was written for her on the Broadway Stage, but I thought Grace Kelly played the part better in the musical version – High Society.  In fact, Stana could play some of her roles – Rear Window (Nathan in the Jimmy Stewart part would be perfect!), To Catch a Thief with the 2 of them…

I went back and read The Virginian while waiting at practices and rehersals.  THe more I think of that, the more I like Nathan and Stana in those roles… Nathan back in western gear [Image Can Not Be Found] and Stana as the Connecticut blueblood schoolteacher who falls for him despite her best efforts.  There are some beautiful scenes in that book…  Yeah I can see it very well…  *sigh*

If they do a dream sequence I'd love to see Castle dream of himself and Beckett as Jameson Rook and Nikki Heat, especailly if it comes shortly after they become a couple…or is that too meta?  [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yeah it would be cool to see Stana and Nathan as Heat and rook. It would be kinda cool if Castle did that type of episode, but that's a diffrent topic entirely.

Wow, I really like all the suggestions, thank you very much! It's interesting that a lot of people seems to connect them with those "classic" movies. I thought about it and maybe that's because "Castle" has a really classic feeling about it. It's about courtship and family and all that with two modern characters. I just love it.

theres a couple of movies that would be interesting to see with the two or even R&E for that matter.

one i am thinking about is Rear window. It would have to be the original as i did not see the remake with christopher reeve. that is a classic who done it movie and they could almost use castles loft in the story to remake that one. i like it for the mystery surrounding how the murder occurs as well as the possibility of seeing nathan shirtless.

the other one is one of seamus's favorite movies and one that i also particularly liked for its film noir.

the movie is chinatown. Nathan could play detective in this one really well. its been a while since i hav seen this movie (watched it in cinema class in 1999) someone who has seen this recently could you refresh my memory on it?
