Question about the length of the contracts of Nathan & Stana

First of all: I'm terribly sorry if this has already been posted. I tried looking for it and used the search feature, but it came up blank.

I was wondering if anybody knows for what amount of time Nathan & Stana's contracts are going.

The reason: I'm also a SVU-fan, but with all the drama going on around the lead actors with expiring contracts and not renewing it, evil TPTB and a failing showrunner/team of writers, that killed off a lot of my fun.

Since Castle is the only series that hasn't let me down so far, I've gotten quite anxious about when Nathan and Stana's contracts are up for possible renewal. Does anybody know for what amount of time their contracts were signed? Or should we be getting worried about those aswell?

Thanks in advance!

General length of the first contract is for 7 seasons, probably this is the case with Castle as erll.

Your search would come up black because it's personal information. Can you imagine if people put YOUR employment contract information online, I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it much.

Well, I don't know about that to be honest. I follow shows in which it has been openly discussed before, so I figured that might also be the case for Castle, but I guess not lol
However I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Edit: sorry, quoting doesn't seem to work atm.

I think nobody here wants to know the contract word for word because that's really personal information, but the length of it shouldn't be a problem. For example Thomas Gibson from Criminal Minds, his contract is renewed for 2 more years, you can read it everywhere on the web. I don't know if it's ok for him but sometimes you can't hide such things when you're famous. Despite everything we've to respect their privacy, so if there's no information available we've just bad luck.

Usually, it's not a secret. For most tv series I've watched, the actors and producers openly discussed the actors contracts. I don't see why it should be a problem. We can't read the contract line by line, of course. But the length of the contract doesn't necessarily have to remain a secret.

I haven't heard anything regarding Nathan's or Stana's contracts. And I've often wondered about that too. It would be nice to know for how many seasons their contracts were signed. I don't think we have anything to worry about though. No one seems to want to leave the show anytime soon.

@BEBU and MissWanderer, thank you, that's exactly what I meant!
I really don't need to know any details about the contract, but it would be nice to have some indication about it's length so we know for how long we don't have to wonder if they will still be there for the next season (and I know they will be there for season 4, but I'm talking about in the long run).

Like I said, with SVU there's been a lot of anxiety among fans because the contracts were very short, so each time we had to go through the "will they quit the show or still be there next season" thing, until it eventually all exploded and we lost one of the lead characters and are on the verge of losing the other one next year after season 13 :(

I just hope we can enjoy the main cast of Castle for a long time, but I can't help but be slightly anxious about it lol.

7? 5 seasons contract seems to me much more probable and then a renewal discussions.

being the show's name "Castle" I don't think it can be this show changing the actor who performs Castle. NCIS or Criminal Minds are more prone to changing the actors because there's a team.

Kate's actress is theoretically viable for a change, but it will cause a loss of viewers. A great loss of viewers. An apocalyptic loss of viewers. [Image Can Not Be Found]

This is something that TPTB have to take in account from the beginning, I think.

An apocalyptic loss of viewers is right! I've often thought what would happen to the show if Stana somehow was killed or died (gulp) like John Ritter did.  Would they create a new character?  Would they bother to try to keep the show going?  It's such a horrible thought, I choose not to think about it.

I thought the typical contract was for 5 years, but I could be wrong.  7 works also!

I read somewhere and would have to search again to track it down, but the first contract for a tv show (and it's principals) is usually 3 years.  After that it is anyone's game.  Could be renewed year by year or 20 years if they want.

I believe that this usually has to do with the experience of the actor/actress when the series starts; an experienced, highly paid actor is more likely to have a 2-3 year contract.  Before the series started (thankfully from the point of view of this discussion) Stana was not well known.  So I would hope that she was contracted for a longer time.  At least 5 and hopefully 7.  But this is obviously speculation.

I recall it use to be 7 year start up contracts with renegotiation at 5 years (this was back in 70's and 80's Paid more attention back then).  Also in one of the last TV guides they had the highest paid actors and Nathan was listed at $100,000 per esp but none of the rest of the cast was listed (went down to $35,000 per esp) so they all receive less then the $35,000 so if they renegotiates there could be a lot of raises in store which means more expense to ABC. Who knows what will happen after S4 going into S5 as TPTB may want to hook up Nathan and Stana to longer term contracts.  As long as the ratings stay up then we should be good to go but TV is a very fickal business.  Guess we will have to wait and see.

Remember there was a interview with NF shot during the 1st season, (so before the show had aired) and the interviewer asked something like -our long can this go on, meaning the play between Castle and Beckett, Nathan replied "six more years, that's how long my contract is", or words close to that. As they were shooting season One, six more years would mean a seven year contract.

I'm no expert but I believe it is fairly standard to have a five year contract with a two year option by the studio/production house. If I remember correctly the set the interview was shot on was a bar/pub so I've always assumed it was shot during 1.10 "A Death in the Family".

There are often times salary increases built into contracts pertaining to a shows popularity or how long the show runs. And/or TPTB can increase cast remuneration as a show of thanks and good faith.  I would hope that one of those increase options would be in place with all members of the main cast particuaraly Nathan, Stana, Jon, and Seamus.

Again I'm no expert, this is just what I remember and what I understand to be standard practice.  Sorry I don't have the link for the interview.

Just one note to the per episode salary lists: those are never full. Not everybody gives out these details. The higher the salary it's obviously more publicised partly because it has a news value partly because it is the interest of the actors, preparing the grounds for their next negotiations. In the "average" category one can decide to show it ("look how worthy I became"), or just the opposite, hide it if they feel they could get a significantly higher salary based on the current success. (Plus of course there can be a lot of people who thinks it's none of our business.) A lot of well known names are missing from the lists from the lower categories, so just because Stana was not on it, it doesn't mean she gets less than 35k.
