Nathan and Stana have received plenty of praise and coverage. As have the two wonderful actresses playing Nathan's mother and daughter.
I wanted to give a mention to the rest of the cast. The other detectives, cops, Captain and anyone else that supports the story.
I am a little mixed on the show so far. I think the two leads are fantastic. A Charming rogue bantering with uptight career cop. This is the problem: the show reeks of LA and not NY city which it is supposedly shot. The setting is so central to the story. Did they shoot any exteriors in New York? The shots look like they were on a sound stage in studio city.
A fantastic idea would be to hire character actors that give a sense of realism. Dexter, Law and Order, Lost… any show that features law enforcement will sprinkle authentic "types" that give the audience a dose of realism. The protocol, manners, and stature of police (fire fighters–Rescue Me) are very important to lend a legitimacy to the show. All I see when any of her fellow cops enter a scene are LA actor types. None, not a one looks like a NY cop, too polished and too flippant.
The one gentleman poses and mugs his way throughout the scenes. Granted they are not given much to do but there should be aura of toughness, attitude, or authenticity. He has a haircut stolen from 90210 and arches his eyebrow when "listening." I am sure he and the others are very nice but their acting or lack of is off putting. They look like actors playing dress up.
The show needs to tweek a few aspects and they may have a hit on their hands. I would like to sneak in a note of praise of the women in this show each and every one has a specific purpose and act it beautifully.

The pilot was actually shot in New York, so if the exterior shots don't look right there's somethin' wrong LOL
Personally, I don't think it matters too much how accurate things like location need to be because I don't think the setting itself is supposed to be taken too seriously, it's about the interaction between the characters and the humour as much as anything else.
I think it's too early to start making judgements on the secondary characters, we haven't had a chance to get to know them yet.
I hope you'll tune in again for a few weeks and let us know how you think things are shaping up after a few episodes.

A note for admin.
Try and stay neutral. Every time a topic or discussion starts you start pimping the show. WE LIKE THE SHOW that is why we are here. You have a 100 people following these forums and it can be more but you insist to hinder any discussion.
Better to have people discuss merits or demerits than have complete apathy. Your paid or work for site (all cool) but you don't have to shill the show. That's for posters, it's what a forum is. Not "ohh the show is greaattt! tune in next week!!! Ohh how wonderfulll!!!"
It's redundant and not promoting discussion. It's hindering free association and banter. Chill out and moderate not suffocate.

Forgive me for having an opinion on my own forum that I run and pay for
For the record, not everybody that comes here DOES like the show, there's been a very critical post or two (from people who hadn't even watched it mind you).
That said, I would like you to stay, as I said, I'm interested to know what you think after seeing a few more eps – I meant that in a genuine sense, not an “I'll only be interested if you like it” sense, perhaps it just didn't read that way.
And THAT said, I do plan on stepping back from discussions here anyway and taking on more of a purely admin role, so I won't be sharing my opinion so much in future anyway.

The Pilot was not shot in NYC. Please post a link to production houses, or locations where they shot. You are meistaken.
The pilot was filmed in around ABC studios in Burbank. The show never came and shot any scenes in NY. Information from IMDB Pro: The Casting Directors—all LA
Donna Rosenstein Kendra Castleberry Annie Muñoz
Production Company; Beacon Pictures is from Santa Monica
The locations: Los Angeles, CA
Not one posting in any NY city trade magazines. So, how did they shoot the pilot in NYC when they are not mentioned anywhere but LA?

Yikes. I am sorry. I didn't mean to be harsh. I thought you were shilling the show. I hate, hate forums that push the show down our throats. Discuss please. I am definitely watching the show to see if it improves.
If I hated it I would not be here. You won't find me on any reality forums. lol

I wish the people that designed this forum software would fix that quote problem, it's easy to mess up a quoted reply – sorry about that.
You won't find me watching any reality shows either *shudder* I think they will eventually be the death of televeision as all the GOOD shows go to the internet….
Glad you're stinking around :)

I'll find you some references when I have a minute to spare, but I do know they definitely shot in NY! People who live in NY said they saw them filming for example…

Roger,
It's always good to have a critical eye for a new show. However, on the one point of where the pilot was shot, there's a post somewhere on this board from a person who got to tour the set in New York and meet some of the people. I tried to find it but couldn't. Anyone else remember it?
I do understand that they're going to be shooting some of the following episodes in LA (probably for real budget concerns) and have scouted "NYish looking sites" in LA. You've got me what that might look like. Last time I was in NYC the Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world and my mother wore Mamie bangs. :)

Here are some references about the filming in New York
http://www.examiner.com/x-4873…..-March-9th "The series films primarily in Los Angeles, but was spotted shooting on location at about half a dozen locations around Brooklyn and Manhattan last spring."
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt12…../108686087
"this show is filming right now on 3rd avenue between 36th and 37th st in manhattan"
"They were filming Thursday inside Japonais restaurant on 18th between park and irving place."

Yes, the pilot was initially shot in NYC. However, there were parts of it that were reshot in LA later. That may be what gives it more of an LA feeling. The rest of the episodes were shot in LA.
The IMDB listings changed with the reshooting, I think. For one thing, the actress playing the dead body changed, and the original actress isn't listed any more, whereas she had been listed earlier on.
