What if Cassidy Towne was about to write a column on Nikki Heat? And people would have observed Towne and Rook fighting about it, so Heat finds out through witness interviews? And they don't find anything about it in Towne's notes, because Rook used the opportunity when he was alone in the apartment to get rid of it? Just a thought.

Read chapter 2 the other day and loved it! I especially loved the tie in to Lanie & Esposito's forthcoming romance. Whoever said Ryan will have something to tease Esposito about is right! Maybe, that's what causes Lanie & Esposito to get together – a little role-playing! And Rook was so sweet.

So this chapter describes Rook's article as a "love letter" to Nikki Heat. That's exactly what I've been thinking that Naked Heat is going to be, unbeknownst to Castle himself. Though, perhaps after the season 2 finale, it will have a more tragic ending, with something happening to Rook, or Nikki choosing another guy, or Rook just upping and leaving again.
Anyway, if there are undertones of that in the book, you can be sure that Gina would pick up on them pretty quickly, as his editor/publisher/girlfriend. I wonder if this would spell some early season tension for Castle.
And whilst Beckett might not pick up on it, especially if she dwells on the possibly sad ending, people like Lanie and Ryan (not sure if Esposito reads the books, he's never admitted to doing so) would spot it.
Also, there's a nice bit of foreshadowing of Ryan and Esposito being angry at Castle when he returns, with Raley, particularly, being upset with Rook

I've really been enjoying Naked Heat. I think it is better than Heat Wave. I read the first book but there were sections of it I found a little boaring to read but I kept at it.
If the whole book is like the first chapters then Naked Heat looks to be very good. The page for it on amazon does say it is several hundred pages long. Hopefully since they had more time to work on this one it will be better. I might just buy a copy this time instead of getting it from the library.

It's weird there's mention of a nickname for Raley but no mention of a girlfriend just weird since Ryan nickname comes from Jennys love of Honeymilk

Just read chapter 3 earlier tonight and I think i'm enjoying this book more than Heat Wave. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Heat Wave, but I felt like there were parts that didn't read well or lacked rhythm or where I would have chosen different phrasing.
I'm also enjoying finding references and parallels to Castle TV show episodes. Here's what I've picked up on so far (I'll use spoiler bars for those of you who are waiting for the book to come out):
- Suicide Squeeze – murder suspect/victim is a famous baseball player
- Deep in Death (Season 2 premiere) – body of murder victim gets stolen right under the nose of a member of Beckett's team
- Kill the Messenger – wealthy former Congressman/Senator is murder suspect, matriarch still rules over the family
- A Death in the Family – Castle consults a mobster friend of his to help him solve a case
- The Mistress Always Spanks Twice – references Dungeon Alley, to the aforementioned Congressman being into S & M, and Heat teasing Rook about how she knows something about that lifestyle.

I also like how Castle's soft spot for Jessup, from Love Me Dead, how he put him into a character – the Super, JJ.
