So after the dedication was mentioned in the premiere yesterday, I swung by the local bookstore hoping to pick up "Heat Rises" and check it out for myself. To my disappointment, they didn't have a single copy in stock. In years past I ordered my copies Heat Wave and Naked Heat off Amazon and I may have to do that again, but that means it may be awhile until I have a copy Heat Rises in my hands.

In the meantime, I know someone around here must've also rushed out today doing basically what I did and I was hoping that they could tell us curious folk what the dedication is.

Anyone notice the little comment in the Acknowlegments section of the book, where Castle thanks Detective Kate Beckett and among the things he says is that she's helped him "make sense of songs", or words to that effect? (My copy is in the next room – sorry if I'm not "word perfect").  I immediately thought of her line in an episode where he asked her how a woman knows when she's in love and she says very quickly "all the songs make sense."  Seems like this is telling her he loves her…even if he thinks she doesn't remember.  Gee — this all sounded great in my head, but it's late and I'm tired, and I hope it gets the point across – sorry for rambling – just thought it was cute!

I love that bit!! I also think it is quite important – she must have read the acknowledgments and I'm sure she remembers the conversation about songs making sense. To me, it's some kind of confirmation from his side: yes, I meant it. How could he NOT see that she was lying when she was in hospital? So he is telling her again that he loves her, in a subtle way, so that it's up to her to react on it or not. He just wants her to know. I really really love that.
