That would be great! I hate commercials, and how they take up almost 50% of whatever show you're watching. Ugh.

Speaking of commercials – I wonder if Starbucks is paying to be mentioned in the book! Not to mention all the other names they throw in there!

Yeah, I wondered that, too. That's some excellent product placement there, with Nikki Heat doing that little mental note about getting one later.

PS: I had to correct myself. I just typed in "Beckett" instead of Nikki Heat. Ah, the Freudian slip.

PPS: Yeah, I agree with you guys. The writing isn't NY Times Bestseller quality. They should fire their copywriter or proofreader, too. Typos abound!

It's supposed to or at least that's what I've heard. They are releasing the first half of Heat Wave a chapter a week until the end of September when the full book will be released on sale.

Hmm. There's still no link to chapter 2, however, it is available if you're sneaky… or just clever. Depends on how you look at it.

I used the same link for chapter one but changed it to a 2 at the end and it worked. Or you can just use the link here. :)

(thought I'd repost this in the more active Heat Wave thread)

EW has a “review” of the first chapter here. I enjoyed the following:

As for who is the real author of Heat Wave, Marlowe insists there’s no mystery: “Richard Castle. The roguishly handsome best-selling author of the Derek Storm mystery series. He’s charming. He’s a good writer. And I don’t know why you’re trying to take credit away from him. The guy worked hard on it.” As hard as he’s working on solving a murder in the Hamptons via his Twitter page no doubt.

Ok, Bree Flax! I chuckled as I read that. He did promise he was going to use her in a book one day. :)

Haha I'm so tired as I read that I didn't even register it. Bree Flax=Lee Wax, the true crime writer. I thought the Beacon Hotel was cute because of Beacon Television and Marlowe building Laugh

And the "unzip and flop ’em on the table and come up short" was so a throw back to Beckett's quote in 1x09 "Oh, for God's sake. Why don't you both just drop your pants and get it over with?"

So you think Beckett is going to be pissed about the trainer with benefits Smile?

I can't believe that ABC forgot to update their links on their page today, I mean come on, they have a gazzillion people in their marketing dept!

Does the sun rise in the East? You bet she's gonna comment on that for sure.

ABC is a puzzle, they spend so much time and effort into making cool promos, a tie-in book and then they "forget" (read sloppy) to update the link.

Stooopid.

Brilliant! You're a regular sleuth yourself. Thanks for figuring that out, obviously ABC still hasn't.

So they finally posted Chapter 3, I guess they are trying to time the posting to be closer to the timing of the 10pm  repeat.

So do you think Castle is dead meat for this part of the story or will Beckett be ok with this chapter, since she sort of gave it to him?

I found some of the writing in this chapter, I don't know, I guess, awkward, would be word I'd use.  The content was fine, but some parts didn't flow as well as they could?   What did you guys think?

What I really find distracting is the constant product name dropping. I know you're supposed to paint a clear picture of the scene and add as many details to bring it to life in the reader's eyes, but sometimes it seems like overkill. (Did we really need to know his computer was a MAC?) I would have also liked to see Rook picking up on Heat's extra attention to Noah during the interview and not just on the ride back.

I do like how the story is developing and Nikki Heat seems like a harder-edged version of Beckett but Rook doesn't seem as affable as Castle. All in all it's not bad.

I kind of agree with you. I think when it first came out I was too overly excited to care about the flow but now it's starting to bug me. I don't know how they're going to fix this if the book is already in printing.

Yeah, the lack of flow and awkward style has bothered me all along. I don't think a real novelist (or even an aspiring novelist) is writing this because, to be honest, the writing is just too bad. I'm not saying the writer is bad, just that the style goes more along with a script or something, not a novel. Great example being when we met the ME in Chapter Two. Did anyone see any description of what she looked like, how she walked, was dressed, etc? I don't recall any, and that just made me appreciate when these details are included in novels because all I could 'picture' was a speech bubble with text. Same goes for 'Heat' and 'Rook', to be honest (I just end up picturing the main characters, which is probably the point, but anyone who hasn't seen the show is not going to have any idea). Novelists take great pains to paint worlds with their text so that you can clearly imagine what's going on. I see huge gaps in the 'Castle' novels, and it bothers me because he's supposed to be a best selling author. It's an insignificant peeve, I guess, but I read so much that it seems like a glaring omission to me.
