By looking at the sales of the book, it probably will go far in print as well

Look at the Monk series as an example

To be fair wasn't Monk originally cancelled by ABC and rescued by USA?

There were Farscape and Stargate conventions a week ago in the same hotel in LA. Robert Picardo was one of the guests there (he played Woolsey on Stargate SG-1/Atlantis) and in one of the reports from the cons I've read that he said during Sunday Breakfast while talking to people at their tables that he was called back for "Castle".

I've just edited my previous post adding a link to this particular report, and correcting the hour.

Got this from IMDb

The show was originally to be made for ABC (the American one) with Michael Richards starring. When he pulled out, so did ABC. However, when the show was successful on the USA network, ABC agreed to carry second-run episodes (much in the same way that USA carries second-run episodes of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1999)). This only lasted for a year.

Tony Shalhoub really made the series work, the writers kept it going

Hard to argue with so many awards and nominations

Not to mention 9 books now

I am new here to the forum and all discussions have long ago have been gone over like a fine tooth comb but here goes with my say on Castle-Beckett. I have read this entire thread and I can list off so many shows in the past that have been successful with the main characters getting married and with them on again off again and even ending up not being together. I have been down the Television road so many of you have been on in the past, being an old gal of 48 I have been watching TV for decades. Back in the 70's we had cops shows that dabbed at romance and in the 80's we move into shows like Hart to Hart, Scarecrow and Mrs King, Moonlighting and Remington Steele and so on. I remember investing five seasons in Remington Steele to not get the pay off , I felt so bummed and let down for investing in a show that never really gave the audience the pay off even in the end. You left that show feeling very cheated a fake marriage and a quicky wrap up. In the 90's we had a lot of rough & violent cop shows with little romance or it was pretty griddy couples who had little time for romance or getting together in their storylines. I had friends who watched Jag and when it ended a few years ago so many people were let down with the ending, others loved the wonder of who quit their job to follow the other one and would they have a few two hour movie reunions. If you just want a cop show then Law and Order and all those CSI shows are the thing for viewers. I only tuned in for Castle because they really plugged the romance and the banter and the sexy couple, not for cops and murder though I do like them solving cases so it is a bonus for me but not what caught my eye and brought me to the show. It was Nathan & Stana, and the two side kick cops- nothing else caught my attention in promos . Take away Beckett and Castle's thing for each other and I wouldn't be tuning in to just one more same old same old cop show theme. Castle is specail and I hope it stays that way, a little mystery, romance, drama, comedy and adventure.

Castle for me is about several things, for why I tune in now each week after having given up on television shows in prime time. I dislkie reality shows and there are enough cop shows on that every storyline possible has been repeated over and over again. Plots are the same but reversed one week the guy character gets shot or kidnapped taken hostage, next week the gal. Guy's ex comes back into picuture next week the gal's, so on. Castle has already been married twice and Kate has never been married so we know she is much more careful with her feelings and decision making. My first reason for watching this show is the couple Castle and Beckett for me it is all about their learning to trust one another and first become friends then  hopefully much more. Then comes the secondary cast storylines and then the murder stories. I miss shows where people can be couples and not always marry them off at the end of the show or when the ratings tank and it's time to slap some episode together quickly to tie up loose ends to the series. I have been down that long TV road so many times that it is why I don't get invested in TV shows. I want Beckett and Castle to get together, I like the little fights and the making up, I just hope the writers don't keep throwing their ex's in our faces at every turn, two steps forward and fifteen steps back. I'd love to see them use season 2 to get to know each others good and bad sides. Hopefully a season 3 to get them coming together, couples can and are happy in life and can be in TV land, so many stories they can do with them as a couple, he is always getting into trouble and getting in the way of the cases, but he also helps a lot, and it would be fun to see Beckett in his world trying to fit in with his crazy home life because she is so private and so secretive. I know they can go so many ways if there are enough episodes and seasons to exlopre some great storylines as a couple, I'd really not like to see them as good friends just solving cases and as good friends dating other people, not what I came to the show for, not what I am looking for as a viewer. I want the pay off and I will stay until the show is no more. The tv road goes both ways for me.

That's my take on Castle, love the show.

this is absolutely true.  there are so many cop shows out there that the only thing separating them is the characters and the dynamics of the relationships.  one of the many reasons i love castle so much is because even though it's a murder mystery show, it's more character driven than anything else, and for me i'm all about the characters.  i watch so many genres of tv because to me the it doesn't really matter as long as the show has characters i enjoy watching.

Add me to the chorus of people who watches Castle for the relationships. I love that this show is so character driven. I know some have complained that the murder plots are too obvious but that doesn't bother me. They're just twisty enough to keep it interesting, but even if they weren't, I really don't watch for that aspect and it really does take a backseat to the characters.

I don't even remember why I tuned in to Castle originally… I probably just had free time and thought the first episode looked interesting enough. I know many came to the show as NF fans but that wasn't me. I stayed b/c the characters just hooked me. It was different from L&O and CIS-whatever from the beginning and I appreciated that. So long as they keep the focus on the characters and don't become/attempt to become a hardcore procedural, I will remain a fan.

I am definitely not a procedural show fan but if I remember correctly, I think I started watching because the Nathan Fillion-Stana Katic pairing was very intriguing to me. I also realized that the TV shows that I follow have characters that I can either relate to in one way or another and/or have a quality where you just want to get to know them and be friends with people like them.

Of course, it wasn't too long after that I realized how brilliantly written this show is and how perfectly cast the actors are. And well… I guess I finally found a show that's worth investing my time in.

Personally i liken the situation to a river.

Its starts as a storm in the high mountains, then crashes down the side in a series of waterfalls into pools of turbulent white water, which then decends further in a more stately fashion with the ocassional rapid to increase the rate of travel. At some point of it's travell it heads underground and you dont see it for a while, only for it to energe as a clear trickling brook with calm water that meanders its way to the sea, where the sun does its thing and the whole process begins again.

Its the journey that keeps my interest.

And to be honest i would like a few partial semi romantic moments, but lets keep the delightful banter and cheeky repartee going for a while longer. There are so many stories that have been hinted at in just the 21 episodes ( seasona 1 & 2) shown to date, that there wil be plenty of fun and games to come.

Cheers TBBW more of Alexis please Bounce

Farscapefan, there was a link posted to Getty Images a few days ago. I can't remember what post it was in. Perhaps in the "Media" section(?) Anyway, that photo was in there. If you go to the site and just search for the names of one of the cast members pictured, you should be able to find it.
