Admin, I'm not entirely sure that your info (from whatever source) is correct.   Stana graduated from West Aurora High School (about 150 miles North of me) in 1996.  If she was born in 1980, as your source indicates, then she graduated at age 16 vice age 18 if she was born in 1978.  Certainly she's a bright lady and could have graduated a couple of years early, but I'm thinking the 1978 date of birth is correct.  She went to College in Toronto and in Chicago area.  Her first "credits" begin in 1999 which would have given her about 2 to 3 years of studies after high school before she actually started working as an actress. 

That may be why her publicity folks have not corrected the imdb. 

I agree with this. And also because Stana had studied a few different subjects in university before she was in the indie film Acid Freaks in 1999.

Okay, my curiousity got the best of me and I checked old copies of the Aurora, Illinois newspapers because I know Stana's parents have a store there.  There is an article which states the following:  'Born in Canada, Stana came to Aurora in 1979, when she was a year old. Her father was cajoled into the furniture business by an uncle who lived in Rockford. At the time, unemployment was 18 percent and the economy was "much worse" than now, Rada said. But Peter and Rada found luck in Aurora." 

The article indicates she graduated in 1996 as I suspected and attended college there in Chicago (Goodman School of Drama).

The article I mentioned had Rada Katic's (Stana's Mom) comments in it and was written several years ago (the Katic's furniture store celebrated their 25th anniversary in Aurora Illinois in 2005), so I tend to think the paper (which was from the town in which Stana grew up) was correct. 

On the other hand, I can't say I'd blame agents or whomever from attempting to make their female clients seem a bit younger.  Acting is a tough enough profession normally to make a living in and for females of a certain age (middle age and beyond) roles are really tough to come by at any time.  Frankly, what her age is or isn't, is pretty irrelevant to us, her fans, but it may be significant in future years to casting agents.   Possibly someone was "setting her age" as a bit younger now so that she has a "longer life span" in the business for roles in the distant future.  Since this society is so obsessed with age (and since I'm in my early 60sand can appreciate the difficulty for actresses of that age), I can't argue with that strategy if that's what it was.
