Hi,
I'm new to this forum and to the show Castle. I just started watching this season and have really enjoyed it. My question is about Alexis's mom. Was she ever mentioned? IS she alive? Were her and Castle together when they had Alexis? Any info would be awesome. Thanks

Meredith is in S1 ep "Always Buy Retail" which is one of my favourites.
Rick refers to her as a "deep fried twinkie", the guilty pleasure you have once maybe twice a year but every day <blek>, rather mean considering they've just had raunch s*x 
he is so naughty.
I hope we see Meredith again, she's good fun and I love how she shakes Rick up LOL

Welcome! They were married when they had Alexis, Castle raised Alexis alot on his own, because her mother, Meredith, is an actor and was away a lot. She was cheating on Castle, which led to their divorce. She planned to get back to New York in the episode mentioned, but she's quite flaky, busting Alexis out of school to go shopping, so neither Alexis nor Castle want her around full time. Castle made sure she got a role in a movie far away from New York, and that's the last we saw of her.
… I suddenly got insecure – was some of this from a fan-fiction and not an episode? Meredith seems to be a favorite villain in some works on internet… gotta go watch season 1 again!

No, almost everything you mentioned happened in the episode. The only part we don't know about, is the reason of their divorce, the cheating on Castle was indeed mentioned in one of the fanfics I've read recently.
And I would also mention that she lied to the headmaster of Alexis' school that her grandfather died, so she could take Alexis from school to go shopping. Now I'd say that such behaviour from a mother is totally unacceptable… Personally I don't miss her at all and I bet Alexis sees the difference between her mother and Kate…

That was the part I was insecure about. Just saw the beginning of ep 106 though:
Castle to Meredith: "…you having an affair with the director, moving to Malibu, and serving me with divorce papers…"
I'm guessing our attention to the dialogue got a bit distracted by the naked Nathan

I forgot about the moving to Malibu part, although I will say I'm glad we don't see much of her character, I think it was just one of those bring them in and then it's done; characters.

I was a bit surprised, when Alexis was determined on going to Stanford, that it never came up – maybe raised by Martha – that Alexis would be much closer to her mom in CA. *That* might have deterred her.

I thought the casting was pretty good. "mom" and "daughter" really look alike.
Do you think we will get to see Meredith more in future episodes? Alexis does not seem too "connected" to her mom. She sees Martha more as a mother figure IMO. I would also lean towards Martha's wisdom and heartfelt warmth if I was Alexis.
Beckett has also always shown more emotion and concern for Castle's family than Meredith. Let the chips fall where they may, but my money is definitely on Beckett being the pivotal female in Alexis's life in the future.

They haven't brought Meredith back since; I guess her presence would not have served to move the story forward. I frankly would like to see her given a mention from time to time – Alexis going out to CA for a week in the summer or something – as, I don't care how well-adjusted you may be, or how your emotional needs may be met by a grandmother present, it's just a little bit heartless for them to never see each other. Meredith is not entirely *horrible*, and she does love Alexis. Alexis has obviously learned to be clear-sighted around her. Just a thought.
I also liked naked Nathan.
