I know Ryan and Esposito get lumped together as partners, but people really can't tell them apart without wardrobe assistance?

I couldn't believe that either.  Seriously!  They are two very different characters.  Do we really have to go that far to distinguish one from the other?

Anyway, this was an interesting article.  Confirms for sure that there's a new wardrobe person on set, at least.

Happy Birthday Jon! But what was Seamus saying about him being neat and you being sloppy? I think an explanation is in order.
Laugh
It seems he didn't like the way Jon described Esposito's new style in the article.

Can we blame the new wardrobe person for some of the Beckett fails this season?  The wierd long sweaters which do not flatter Stana.  I mean they did get a bit crazy with all the Burberry last season, Beckett wearing 100 dollars shirts every day might not be completely fitting with her detective budget but I can forgive cause this is television.  But lately they have been giving her a much less tailored look.  Maybe trying to make her look less serious, but Beckett in the end is still the straightman to Castle.  Also what is with the crazy heels..

I believe people would get Ryan and Esposito confused because people are kind of stupid.  But I am not sure wardrobe is the answer.  Also based on character I would think Esposito would take more pride in what he wore, he seems like that kind of guy.

I don't see how anyone could confuse Ryan and Esposito. I love both of their characters and don't see any room for confusion. I do agree with you, Bloom that some of Beckett's clothing this season has been bad. A Deadly Affair had some of the worst I've seen for Beckett since the show has been on, but I think it is getting much better now.

I think they're trying to soften Beckett's image a bit, which explains why we saw a leather coat on her for the first time this season last night (plus it was an edgier episode) and why the long sweaters (which I don't like either).  That patterned blouse she wore in the episode with Mike Royce was terrible – Beckett isn't a flashy kinda girl.  She's very no-nonsense  and straightforward, so she shouldn't be dressed in a lot of colorful prints, IMHO.  And I liked the button down blouses she wore most of last season – they were sexy, but professional looking on her.  Some of the stuff she's worn this season just makes her look unkempt and out of shape.  But I've noticed the last couple episodes, that her wardrobe seems to be normalizing.  Thank goodness.

In regards to Ryan and Esposito, I think that article about telling the two of them apart put it badly.  They're not so much trying to help fans tell the two apart, as much as portray them both as two very different parts of one pair.  They work together, get a long well, but are two very different people as well as personalities.  I agree though – Esposito is a proud guy, so it makes sense that he would be dressed a little better than the camoflage shirt and and jeans he wore in part of last night's episode.  He doesn't need to look like he's heading off to war in EVERY episode.

Agreed that he doesn't, however last nights episode (3XK) he was doing recon in a rough looking bar – so he probably fit right in with the crowd there.

Agreed. I had seen screen shots of 3XK prior to the episode being on and I had been puzzled by the camoflage.  Then I kept thinking about it when this topic came up.  Let me just say boys, camo is never ok unless you are actually a solider and have to wear it.  And I was thinking: Oh man if this is the new waredrobe person's idea…Evil

But then when seeing the episode it made sense.  He was wearing it as an undercover thing.  So that is ok.

Agreed that it is OK for undercover work, and especially since Esposito has the military cred, but not in a "Hey this is what I think I'll wear today!" way.
