It's obvious that Beckett's appearance throughout the seasons has changed. Part of it, I think, reflects her internal transformation: she's loosened up a bit, become less serious and more open. She's relaxed and she doesn't feel the need to hide behind her professionalism. Yet I feel like the transformation got taken too far. In season 1, she looked like a beautiful, professional woman; she had a sort of effortless beauty about her with that short hairstyle and the way she dressed. But it seems like, by season 3, the clothing and makeup stylists have turned her into a bit of a supermodel. In my opinion, she's wearing way too much makeup through most of season 2, and the way she wears her hair just makes her look like she's trying really hard to be attractive and feminine. Her heels bug me, too; I understand the need to look professional at work, and goodness knows I've done my fair share of running in heels. It's not impossible. But it seems like 4 inch stilletos are a bit much. Does anyone agree, or am I just being way too picky about people on TV looking too perfect?

I think the most realistic, and IMHO best "Kate Beckett" look, was at the end of season 2 (where her hair was, as I'd call it "post-mullet, pre-Kardashian." hahaha j/k!). The look was feminine but practical…okay, except for the heels, but i sort of liked that suspension of belief. Season 3 Beckett is GORGEOUS, don't get me wrong, but not very cop-like.

Just watched Rise, and not really sure what they're going for in terms of her look. I definitely like her wavy hair better. The straight hair made her look older and tired…well, maybe that was appropriate for this episode, but i almost felt like it was a completely different person. The parts where she had her wavy hair, like in the scene where they are on the swings, seemed to channel back the beckett we know and love.

I think she was supposed to look tired in this ep, they also deliberately put her in an oversized sweater to make it look like she was frail and had lost weight after surgery

Yeah, the oversized clothes, the make up and hair were clearly all adjusted to make her look frail, fragile and not-herself at all, mentally and physically.

I like her wavey hair more, but this is also beautiful. Actually I think everything looks great on her. No matter what you put on her, nothing can make Stana look less gorgeous than she already is.

It is difficult to make her look anything but beautiful, but in Rise, the woman endured open-heart surgery, so we expect her to look less than perfect.  Personally, I am concerned about the real-life weight she seems to have lost – I hope she only did it for this episode.  Her face is very gaunt, and the straight hair emphasized it.  Maybe Castle will feed her a few hearty breakfasts and get her back to her usual radiant self.

Yeah, i spent most of episode 4 feeling terrible for Kate. Stana's acting was so good…you could just see Beckett breaking down inside. I agree, the straight hair does emphasize a sort of simplicity as she's finding her way back to her usual self.

I too was a little bit concerned about her apparently losing weight IRL, but I don't think it's appropriate to talk about that. I just hope that she did it only for this ep (and I can see her do that cause she is just that dedicated) and that everybody and herself are taking good care of her.

As far as the make up. I also noticed the dolled up eyes in the hospital, but I'm fairly sure they did that to make them look even bigger which in turn made her look more thin. That, compared with the straight hair and her clothing choices made her even more fragile.

Also, I noticed how she dolled herself up when she went to Castle's booksigning. Always a good sign [Image Can Not Be Found]

Stana hasn't lost weight, it's all makeup and costuming, they worked very hard to make her look worse for wear. There's no need to be concerned for her.

I think they did an awesome job with the make-up, she really looked like she had just been shot and had lost a lot of blood…I've seen what this looks like and they got it right!!!!

It would take more effort to make her look bad I think [Image Can Not Be Found] Even when she's in the hospital bed and her hair is all messed up and she just got out of heart surgery she still looks fantastic lol! I love every look personally. It evolves as does the show and her character. In terms of favorites I think my favorite is the end of season 1 with the shorter hair. She had more attitude with that hair. She's definitely more glamorous now but I still think it works. I actually like that she can be girly and doesn't have to man up to be a cop. I like the curlier hair, but towards the middle when it was straight and she had her bangs pulled back I thought she looked stunning! I like the Nikki Heat episode when they talk about why she wears the heels and how it gives her a psychological edge over the guys because she's often times taller. I really just love Stana I guess [Image Can Not Be Found] she can't go wrong! I did notice in Tick, Tick, Tick and Boom when she is chasing the guy down into the subway you never see her shoes… guessing they let her change into some Nikes for that part lol!

Well, whether or not Stana was wearing Nikes, I like that they're showing a girl who can run in heels. Not like those spy shows where you have a beautiful woman who needs to take off her heels to do anything at all. With Kate, it's almost like she can keep all her femininity and her feminine power even while chasing bad guys and shooting and doing other cop things.

I also love Beckett being able to run on heels without breaking her ankles. Stana herself likes it aswell.

Tho whenever they are sneaking up on a suspect (or in a warehouse to find a bomb like in Countdown) you hear her heels click which doesn't seem quite handy at that moment haha.

and speaking of looks. Looks like the wavey hair is coming back people! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Loved how they played with her hair and make up to make Beckett look so fragile.

I have to admit I like her better with her hair a little shorter, looks more like a professional I think.

Stana is a beautiful woman and she can pull off every look.

I do think Nathan's put on some weight. (sorry sweetie…) He is still handsome but I would prefer to see him a little slimmer.[Image Can Not Be Found]

yeah, that's true about Nathan though I don't mind so much. I'm rather tired of all those Hollywood actors with perfect bodies who spend 3 hours a day in the weight room. There's something about the way Nathan looks that makes him look real; it makes you look for the personality and not the perfect body.

I started watching Castle a year and a half ago, so I had lots of episodes to catch up at the time.  That's funnny because over the whole first season, I was like "What? How come there can be a female cop that good-looking walking with such high heels *at work*?" And in season 1, Beckett didn't have long hair, which makes her even less credible as a cop in season 3, lol! But I now think Beckett's breathtaking look and hairstyle shouldn't necessarily be taken too seriously. Castle is a dramedy, some things are not meant to be credible. In some way, her hairstyle and clothes reflect both the context of working with Castle (c'mon, she knows how to draw his attention and arouse him!) and the "not-so-seriousness" of the show. But in the end, Stana's performance as an actress is so amazing that I no longer wonder if what she wears or what she looks like is credible or not. [Image Can Not Be Found] As long as Beckett, as a character, is well-developed, I won't complain. But I must say that although I really like her short hair in season 1, the new hairstyle in Rise is very nice!
