OfflineWhy does the age demo matter so much? Because that is the demo advertisers use to gauge revenue. An interesting tidbit, despite the large premiere and winning it's timeslot, Hawaii 5-0 is behind Castle in revenue! On average Castle brings in $134,155 per ad versus Hawaii 5-0's $133,900.
Sure that's pretty close but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, ABC has to be happy that Castle makes more money than CBS's overhyped show!
You can see a break down of the average revenue for all shows here, looks like Castle is sitting comfortably in the middle of ABC's shows.

That's like a 40-50% jump on last years ad rates, last year Castle was about 90-95k/30 second commercial, which was really low in comparison to similar shows, but I think that reflected the fact it was on the bubble in season 1 going into season 2. And last year it was significantly less than CSI Miami which I think was in the $120-130k range. Yay for Castle getting it's proper recognition!

OfflineI looked back through my posts from last year and found where I posted about ad rates last October, Castle's rate was $92,700 at the beginning of the season, I'm sure it did go up as the season went along since it's ratings went up. But interesting to see where CSI Miami and other shows were last year. I'm a finance geek, so trying to figure this stuff out, business models and such, is interesting to me.

OfflineThank you for the retrospective data! Interesting changes in a year and make cancellation predictions (like the one at [filtered]) more understandable. Also explains – to me at least – why everybody says the Friday night a graveyard. If a show starts there it has to be profitable on around half of the cost of a Monday show – almost mission impossible to show something visually interesting.
