I watched the third episode tonight, and a thought popped in my head – does anybody know if Castle's apartment was built new (i.e. they built the set for the show) or is it a redress of Mick's apartment from Moonlight (which got canceled a year ago)? They both seem really similar, down to the stairs and the door. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed really familiar to me.

That's a good question, I saw a video posted somewhere that involved one of the crew (set designer? Don't remember) that talked about Castle's loft but I'm not sure if it mentioned if it was built or modified, I'll see if I can track down the interview

I also saw a vidoe online where a man (set designer?) was talking about Castle's Penthouse and I remember him saying that they did build the set for the show. I think it was at ABC's official website along with a lot of other behind the scenes interviews for the show. I wouldn't swear to it, but I think thats where I saw it.

It says on the IMDB Castle trivia section that the set has been modified but was the Moonlight set.

I don't suppose anyone knows who painted or what the painting is called of the spiralling staircases that is behind Rick's desk? Sooooo want that for my book room.

I'm told the set is not the old Moonlighting set, but that it was in fact designed by the same production designer.

Aww, that makes me sad and also happy. Moonlight was my favorite show (tho I wasn't one of those notoriously bonkers fans) and I was so upset when it got canceled. Castle is the only show that I've gotten that into since then. I'm so glad the set is being used for something as good as this. I find it interesting that Gabrielle Stanton and Harry Werksman were executive producers in ML and have now moved on to Castle, as well as the set designer. Thanks for the info!
