I wonder if they would ever incorporate his father coming into the picture.

Hopefully one day, far into the future.

According to Nathan's tweet we're going to hear about Castle's middle name in the following episodes (I'm guessing after the 18th). bounce2:

OK Castle, but it's accompany and observe, and not participate and annoy, got it?

This is one little detail that's been annoying me, Castle's last name. I was very interesting to note, right after Suicide Squeeze aired, WriteRCastle tweeted Alexis Family tree, and Martha's maiden name is Rogers. But, when Montgomery was complimenting Castle, and saying he had to have some "cop" in his family tree, Castle answers, "No, the Castles are primarily charlatans and circus folk." (paraphrased.)

for sake of less confusion, he might have been referring to the Rogers clan as *the Castles*. But I would really love a little light shed on this topic.

My take:

Castle is Martha's real last name, maiden name probably. I bet Martha Rogers is her stage name because Martha Castle isn't very neutral. It kind of sounds like it should belong to one of the puppets on Sesame Street.

A lot of people change their names in the acting world, John Wayne's real name was Marion Morrison. Martin Sheen's real name is Ramon Estevez and his son is Emilio Estevez. So it is possible that Martha chose to give her son her real name Castle instead of her stage name. Richard Rogers doesn't doesn't ring as well as Richard Castle.

No argument here! It could be. I'd like to know for sure though.

Waaaay back when this show first started, I had toyed around with a brief not-really crossover idea with Dirty Dancing, for the soul purpose of using it as a backstory.  As the series went on, I mostly ditched it, but since the story surrounding Castle's father is so up in the air I might revisit it just for fun.

Awww…I like Richard Rogers just fine.

But I also like the Sound of Music. So maybe it's just me.

Castle could very well be a pen name that he's adopted.

But if that were true, wouldn't Alexis be Alexis Rogers?  When an author uses a pen name, they still go by their real name.

That's what I was thinking too, Lady Brenlis.  I think that there was a guy surnamed Castle in Martha's life right around when she had Ricky.  I was thinking about the Cubs beat writer George Castle (hey, he's a writer, it may very well be possible!!) being Ricky's dad (and that explains the baseball connection in The Suicide Squeeze!!).

But hey, any mention of my beloved Cubbies would make me a very, very happy guy.  Squee. Bounce

Terri tweeted this on 22 May:

Having gone through the first half of his life as Richard Rodgers, soon as he could, he adopted the nom de plume Richard Castle.

OK Castle, but it's accompany and observe, and not participate and annoy, got it?

Yes, and I'm not buying it, unless he actually legal changed his name to Castle.  After all, Alexis uses Castle, so it has to be a legal name.  :p

I would have to also assume that it was legally changed. After all it's on his last will and testament.
