OfflineSo I was just going through the photo gallery on the site and noticed the significant changes in the look o Kate & Martha through the seasons. I don't see them as good or bad changes just significant changes in hair and make-up over time. It happens in the majority of shows I watch with female leads. What I find really interesting is that I rarely notice such major changes in the look of the male leads…. Any thoughts on why that might be?
I like Kate's look this season I just take issue with the 3 inch stilleto heels they have her in. Not realistic or practical for a police detective. Heels sure stilleto heels not so much…. I am not complaining mind you just saying….

OfflineWell, you don't really notice changes in the men's looks (because they all wear shirts and pants). With the woman's looks, you look at the shoes, the hair styling, the jackets, and everything else. The new dresses has made so strange choices so far (in my opinion), but, we'll see where the season takes us.

OfflineI dunno, they've been doing some weird stuff with Ryan's wardrobe too this season… the vest from last week and there was one shirt tonight with a dark collar and patterned shirt- eek!
I love the "Beckett heels"- I think it's kinda part of her character now! (although agreed that they are impractical!)

OfflineHeels, I can overlook. But those stiletto heels?! I can't walk, never mind run, in those – no idea how Stana does it (then again, you never see her feet in running sequences).
Agreed, clothing choices for Beckett (I haven't seen ep 3, so I can't comment much on Ryan yet, but I saw the promo and thought Beckett's shirt was something that screamed… well even my mother won't wear that.) have been towards the point of awful this season, but I'm going to tolerate that since there's a new wardrobe guy, but he (or she) better find their his/her fast, because I miss the leather jackets and I don't know how much longer I can stand the clothes.
As for hair, Stana wanted long hair since season 1 but they'd film the pilot in short hair so they let her grew it out. Different, yeah, but whatever makes Stana happy is fine with me.

OfflineI think Beckett's evolution in wardrobe and hair is meant to show her in a more feminine light. In the first season, we didn't know much about her other than the fact that she's a hard-nosed cop trying to avenge her mother's death. As we see more layers of her personality, her wardrobe also becomes more varied. Though I have to say, I haven't been a fan of this year's wardrobe much either. I miss the leather jackets and well-fitted long coats too. Regarding her shoes, Beckett has always worn heels, just not stilettos. I kinda like them on her, even though it would make it very difficult for the average cop in reality. At least they took a few minutes and poked fun at them last night.
I actually haven't paid much attention to Martha's wardrobe, so I can't comment on that.

OfflineI miss the leather jackets too and the more business like dress. It does make sense that as her character has evolved so would her look I had not thought about that. Martha I noticed hair and make-up changes more than clothes. Same for Lanie – hair and make-up more than clothes.
I love the stilleto look just would like a tad bit of practicality. I would pay to see her in leathers on her Harley though

OfflineI do like the changes they've made to Lanie's character. The long hair and the pink scrubs make her look more feminine – probably a foreshadowing of the Lanie-centric episode we're supposed to get or of a hook-up with a certain colleague of hers at the precinct. Gives her character more layers.

OfflineI still think the heels are too much. I'm no expert on women fashion, but couldn't they just be small heels, if any? Like half the size they usually are?
And personally, I think Beckett's hair looked the best in the second half of Season 2. Like in 2.24, it was perfect. In Season 1, it was too short. In Season 3, I think it's too long. But in the last episodes of Season 2 was where it was really good. Granted, she always looks good. However, it's just my personal preference.

I just like Stana's hair a lot better long…I think it suits her face better. But then again she could shave her head still be gorgeous!
Agreed! She always looked great, but I think she's at her best now with her long hair. So much more feminine. (just my personal taste, no offense to short-haired women).

OfflineI actually prefer her hair the way it was at the start of season 3 versus the way it is now. It hides too much of her face when it is curled.
Also it is me or has Stana gained weight? The good kind of weight – settle down! Going back to season one she looked – I dont know how to describe it – waify? Kind of like she just stepped off of a runway show. As the series has progressed she looks more athletic. A MUCH better look IMO

I agree that her wardrobe is a symbol for her own personal evolution; she's loosening up, letting people in and relaxing more. She goes from suits to a more casual attire that make her more personable. I love her outfits, no matter the season. I prefer her hair longer, though I still loved it short. I just think longer hair fits Stana better. Then again, as MySafeWordisApples said, she could be shave her head and still be beautiful. As for the heels, I think Stana is amazing; honestly, to be able to run around in those things all day long is a true feat. If you have seen the behind the scenes feature on Season 2, you'd see that they took her heels down considerable from the first season. Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever said that the change in heel height made Stana's gait smoother – I completely agree. Three-inch heels were a bit much, yes? I think they went down to either 2 1/2 or 2 inches. I can't remember exactly. I haven't looked to see if they kept this trend in Season 3. Honestly, though, I think that the heels really do make Stana/Beckett look that much more intimidating as a cop and gives her that height advantage (whether Beckett wants to admit it or not, she likes the extra height). The really accent her wonderfully built frame.
I applaud both her and the designers working constantly to find new stuff for her to wear to wow us and to make Beckett a dynamic character.

OfflineShe has gorgeous hair, but it's stretching the limit of realism for a cop to have perfectly coiffed hair. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a suave commercial when they are chasing someone. I thought the perfect practical, yet feminine style was mid to late season 2. When it comes to woredrobe, I like the balance they are striking, but (and I know it's a show) but they have her in haut couture outfits that no cop would ever buy.
