OfflineCastle enjoys puzzles and codes and he seems to be good at solving them. In one episode there's a mention of him doing the NYTimes Crossword in ink. He zeroed in on the treasure map in Under the Gun and figured out the folding and then how to read the map (and the guy's arm). And he also was the guy who solved the cryptogram in Tick Tick Tick…
It makes me wonder if Beckett will give him a shot at unraveling her mom's day planner. In Knockdown, she tells Castle that she could never make sense of what was written there because her mom had a coded way of writing in her planner that she and her Dad could never figure out. That planner is a potential goldmine of information and Castle and his penchant for codes and puzzles could be the guy to unearth them.
They might even leak part of the code in the sneak peeks to give us a chance to crack it! That would be so cool!

OfflineThe idea is very good, but I'm affraid that in this form we will never see it. That's the only think I'm really missing from the show, that topics which are important elements in one episode very rarely come back later. It's good for the future syndicate contracts, each episode is practically stand alone, but it would be great to see more tie-backs to previous episodes. One example is the fundraiser: I doubt we will see it.

OfflineI think this might be a bit of a reach. Remember, it was Alexis that figured out the treasure map. When she said "it's got lots of folds…..like a puzzle…..or maybe a Chinese fortune teller" it clued him into Mad Magazine. Doing the crossword in ink just means he has a command of the English language, which as a best selling writer, he should. Finally the cryptogram was based on his book. It makes sense that it was he that figured it out.
That said, he still may be able to figure out the planner because he a greater ability to read between the lines versus Beckett who's training makes her look at what is in front of her.
I am also not sure syndication plays into it much. Usually when a network picks up a show for syndication they air them in order. At least from what I have seen recently.

OfflineI would think that anything related to Beckett's mom's case would be fair game in future episodes since that arc has been there since the beginning.
Jack, you're right about Alexis helping, but that doesn't mean that Castle couldn't crack the Johanna code with her help. And I agree about Castle thinking outside the box being an asset in a situation like this. But also remember, he figured out that the cryptogram key was based on Nikki Wave because he figured out that the code meant words and that the key would be the book. He's into puzzles that way, he enjoys figuring out the riddle.
I guess I'm reaching because I don't want ot be bored over the summer. It'd be a neat Twitter thread from Richard Castle … "taking a fresh look at Johanna's planner. It is a code! Viisit my website and help me crack it…
Well, a girl can dream can't she? My favorite Wimsey book is The Nine Tailors where DL Sayers used an English change ringing peale as a code. So cool!

Let me just say I LOVE this idea!! As a LOST fan I loved the Oceanic webiste and spent a ton of time on it finding clues (the answer wasnt there but there were clues) I am a puzzle doer also and love to look into what makes things tick. I think it would be great, if nothing else for ABC to create an interactive murder board to allow us to draw conclusions and see if the episodes play out like we imagined.

OfflineI was just thinking the other day that I hope the subject of her planner's code comes up before the season ends. The season finale would perfect. But your idea is awesome! A contest could be started for someone to crack the code and win a fabulous prize. Awesome idea.

Like the chance to be an extra in the series… Maybe even the dead body, right Jack?
That or a visit to the set. I would LOVE that!
