If you check out the Halloween theme for the website (via the Theme Switcher on the home page) you'll see a pumpkin that ashley_slomo carved last year.

I'd never carved a pumpkin before because we don't do Halloween in Australia but the last couple of years they've started selling the right kind of pumpkin here so I decided to buy one today… here's the result.

The poor pumpkin shed a tear at the first stab of my knife :( (I was too slow with the camera to catch the tear drop as it rolled down it's widdle face)

Ewww…the guts are slimy

The lid still fits – phew! & an assortment of knives…

Held the printed cutout on and traced the outline.

Started carving – added tape to the knife because it was digging into my finger.

Almost done with the half deep cutting, I then went round again pushing the knife all the way through.

I started removing the inside of the shape a bit at a time – here's Nikki's body being pulled out.

With the shape fully removed… I tidied it up a bit afterwards.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to call it finished at this point… then I decided I would write Nikki Heat on it too though I was nervous I'd mess it up.

I printed out Nikki Heat and then taped the printout the the pumpkin.  I used a craft tool with a pointy tip to stab through the paper to leave a dotted line representing the letters, removed the paper and cut out each part with a small knife.

And here she is finished!  I'm so pleased with the result, I never expected it to turn out so well given it was my first attempt ever.

haha… so many people have said that so I did.
