Ok, I am looking forward to reading this thread!! Great idea!!

To prevent my brain from going ' yeah.. what she said..' and not thinking for itself – I am going to post my thoughts on HOW they should get together and then I will get straight onto reading everyone else's ideas!!

Firstly, I think they should get together NOT in 8 seasons time.. that is just ridiculous.. but another season or two – if there are small steps along the way would be fine with me.

Hmmm.. their first kiss? I would like this to be not at the moment where they ' get together' .. definitely got to have a few kisses before the deal is struck so to speak! Call me crazy ( just not to my face – haa!!) but I like the sounds of a cover kiss – which weirds them both out and they both scamper away afraid of the intensity of their feelings for each other.. Say Beckett and Castle go undercover as a hot and heavy couple somehow..

It would be lots of fun to see Castle do undercover – he seems to really enjoy a bit of play acting..(and for Beckett would be great to see her branch out a bit) and I can see it now – his mother giving him lessons on how to be convincing… Castle sees an opportunity! he wants a proper kiss off Beckett without the declarations- so he tells her they have to kiss so when they are together undercover they look convincing- his mother said so! … so all awkward/tentative they start to kiss- but the awkwardness quickly is overtaken by passion and.. uh oh.. they quickly pretend like nothing happened.. then we get a bit more kissing as the undercover couple.. when the undercover operation is over – they both seem to be disappointed about that!!! :)

As to the final decision for these two characters to get together- I am going to have a go at this as a completely uninformed fan.. I base this on what I have seen of their characters in the 5 or 6 eps I have seen.. but.. here goes!!

My impression is that Castle has been married a few times.. and isn't glowing of the institution of marriage..maybe he doesn't think he is any good at it/ but deep down he wants to find someone special… up until Beckett he has been after casual relationships.. indeed in the first episode all his flirting with Beckett- was him trying to pick up.. for a bit of a fling.. and that's about it.. However, as he has gotten to know Beckett- he sees that he can't have that kind of relationship with her- he respects and admires her too much for that..

Also, Beckett isn't about to jump into some casual fling with Castle and upturn everything at work and with her career and her reputation- I think she would only go there with Castle if she knew he was wanting a committed relationship.. ( yup.. IMO a serious relationship which could lead to marriage- not a relationship that could be anything.. does that make sense? ) As a playboy type, Castle would need to have reassured Beckett of his intentions, and proven to her his feelings run deep.. Sounds old fashioned I know.. but .. Beckett had her FBI serious boyfriend leave her for a job.. and she hasn't forgotten that so easily.. Beckett doesn't want to start up with someone who is going to leave her- and who she can't count on when times are tough.  Also, all Castle's flirting – Beckett just writes it off as him teasing her.. she doesn't take it seriously. It is when Castle gets serious and intense that she stops and pays attention to what he is saying- and is affected… you know?

I think the depth of their friendship needs to increase alot more before they take it the next step..(because IMO the next step should be very serious relationship/ they are in their courtship now really – it just isn't official!!) while the whole time the sexual tension sizzles away quietly waiting for the right time..

Given what I just wrote about Castle and Beckett and how they see each other – I think Castle should be the one to step up and put his heart out there to win Beckett.. throw away quips about Beckett smelling like cherries may excite us -the audience.. but they aren't going to win Beckett's heart.. Castle is going to need to do something of substance..

It could be cool to see Castle overcome his (quite rational) fear of getting shot and take a bullet for her.. but I think the guilt would get to Beckett if that happened!! hehehee…

Hmm.. could be really cool if Alexis played match maker..

Hmm.. or being famous- Castle could have a stalker – who puts those he cares about in danger.. and who sees how much Beckett means to him..

Anyone remember Scarecrow and Mrs King? they got together after 3 seasons.. and it was a wonderful progression their relationship – Castle reminds me of it a little – maybe that is why I like it so much.. but the premise of scarecrow and mrs king was the professional spy and the housewife novice with no training being thrown together.. she is the duck out of water, he is frustrated at having to babysit her and have her tag along…. and slowly but surely they grow to respect each other, trust each other and be really good friends.. and.. eventually when they got together it was very sweet- it was like they both knew it was time, and they were ready.. and not long after that they got married – but kept it a secret.. Whoo that could be good for Castle.. maybe not a secret marriage but at least a secret relationship while they start their official romantic relationship.. could make for some great jokes..

Being a famous author and all, wouldn't he go on a nationwide or even international book tour? and.. how about he takes along his muse for publicity? ( she being ordered to go by the mayor!) .. why, they could end up anywhere.. on a gondola in venice.. atop the eiffel tower.. Ahhh.. Ok. I am starting to get really really out there!!

Ok ok.. gotta go..  I could just go on forever! Looking foward to seeing where the writers go. I just hope they don't sell themselves short and put off and put off Beckett and Castle getting together like the show's success depends on their staying apart.. with good writing- this doesn't need to be the case! Audiences are not as shallow about this as people give us credit for I think.. uh oh.. off on another tangent.. going now!!!

Actually todays shows you can't find it anywhere and I think it would add a great elemt if he changed for her…yeah it's too much to hope for in these times for a clean show, that is why I watch mostly old tv shows…you didn't see crap like that on Walker and it did great! It's so dumb that they think they have to put that stuff in there when truthfully they are loosing alot of viewers for it…I seriously thought about quitting after the scene with his ex and luckly there hasn't been any more and if they must have it they don't have to show it on screen…but that is just my beliefs and I would hate to have an amazing show ruined for me because of something so unnecissary!

I think it's actually very opposite. I've never heard a person quit watching a TV show just because there's sex. Even my most repressed friend turns her head during those types of scenes. She's not praying for it to happen, but she understands that the majority of the public isn't bothered by that sort of thing. Sex is such an important thing in today's culture that it's actually more awkward when you remove that type of relationship. I'm not saying get them into bed right now, or even show it to us graphically… What I am saying, is that the show wouldn't work without the sexual tension, and as everyone knows, the only way to resolve sexual tension is with sex.

There are alot of ppl I know that don't watch tv at all because of it, and it is not necissary. The show would work fine if they had a wholesome relationship. That type of relationship was created for married ppl and saidly to say it has moved out into the unmarried couples, there are plenty of shows that worked great without it and it shouldn't be on tv at all but of course there is nothing I can do about it anyway.

for me, the sexual tension and sex in general is so prevalent in the show that i'm curious as to what draws you to watch it?  it's not meant to be rude in any way, i'm just really curious.  i'm not saying there's nothing more in the show but sex, but it is a major theme and therefore ever present and will continue to be ever present.

What originally drew me to the show was Stana Katic. I like the crime element of the show and some of the funny non perverted lines. I relate really well to Beckett because I am studying to be a Criminal Investicator, and I truly hate the perverted jokes that Castle has which makes me not like the character as much. Of course that is just my opinion but I think they could have a great relationship without sex and even if it must be implied be cutirtus and keep it off screen.

Alrighty, let's try and get back to topic… Wow, Doz! You came up with some great ideas! You should write for the show, definitely! I totally agree with that whole "a few kisses before the deal is struck" thing. Good plan! Dunno how Castle'd be with the whole undercover thing – but I love how he puts on those stupid voices when he messes with people (ie. Chris Walken, Robert Deniro, recent helicopter scene with Martha ). Nathan's a funny guy and I'd love to see him do something undercover-y and how Kate/Stana will react to it! Yes, a must see… hopefully something like that will be coming soon

Very true but somehow I think Rick should be careful or Kate might just turn the tables on him which I would love to see. He's not a man who suffers self doubt very often so to see him out of his league would be fun.

I love Esposito's comment when Rick phones the Mayor "the rich really are different, the man has the mayor on speed dial" but what to do with them, I do tend to be leaning towards the married couple undercover type thing. Rick would have so much fun with that.

Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place.

I miss a day and this thread went bonkers!!   Amazing, the hoopla that one little .gif can cause!  Way to go Ashley… now I can't stop watching it!!

What a fun episode of Two Guys and a Girl that is… (Season 2 Episode 10 'Liver and Learn')  It IS such a shame that show isn't available on DVD, but luckily I snagged quite a few eps off of YouTube before they started yanking them all, including that one.  Shhh! ;)  I'm totally right behind you all waiting for a DVD set though.

Doz, those were some fun ideas!  Everyone loves the undercover idea, myself included!  I just wish there was a way to make it work in the script.  I seem to remember one of those writer chats (Jose Molina, I think) where it was brought up that Rick is a little too famous to pull off undercover.  What a shame…

 

I had another thought too today..not an original one mind you.. rather it is a total cliche!! hehehee.. but - you don't know what you've got till it's gone.. I think somewhere between their cover kiss (LOL!) and their sealing of the deal and jumping into a real relationship – they should stop working together for a while.. ( maybe just an episode!!) and.. they will both miss each other terribly and see that it is no longer optional that the other is in their life – they need them, things have changed and there is no going back to life without the other! They have changed..

Am I making any sense? Ohhh I hope so.. it's been a long day!

spinning onwards with your idea – stop working together for a while – that could easily be achieved by Castle going on a book signing tour – a week or two with traveling and signing and shaking hands. No mysteries in sight. Dull dull days. And Beckett getting a murder case that she just can't solve. She tries to get the creative juices flowing with Esposito, Ryan, Montgomery, Parish, even Perlmutter – nothing. In the end they both break down and call each other. And over the phone they come alive again – and both realize, as they disconnect the phone, what they're missing.
