So, what I'm gathering is that everyone here is in favor of them getting together at some point, but there is some disagreement as to when it should happen.  There's not anyone out there who thinks that they should NEVER get together, is there?

Because it seems clear to me that the intention of the writers is to get them together but nice and slow.  But maybe I'm wrong about that.  Do we have any inside info on that??

Here's my feeling on the whole "Moonlighting Curse" (and I write this as someone who was a fan of Moonlighting, in the beginning):

I say we stop referring to the "moonlighting curse" because so far, the writers have done everything completely different in regards to the relationship between Castle and Beckett

In Moonlighting, the characters start out in this way: She dislikes him. Really doesn't like him at all. He's kind of an immature jerk.   He lusts after her. And that's it. Their characters never grew beyond those traits. Neither character treated the other with any true respect. She was condescending to him and he acted like a jerk to her.

Oh sure there was chemistry and UST, but that was it. There was really no way I could see those two having a relationship. One night stand? Sure. But that was it. IMO, that is why that relationship was doomed to fail.

There was never anything about David Addison that would make ANY woman think, "Oh, he's respectful and responsible. He'd be a good dad and husband". He was like a grown man with untreated ADHD.

Maddie Hayes was truly cold. An ICE QUEEN. Through and through. Never saw any hint of true warmth. As a character, does anyone think she would have made a great mom? Was there ever any moments of deep, compassionate, emotion from her? Not in my opinion.

Finally, you NEVER saw the two characters really admire each other as people. Nor did you ever see them become friends. They never felt respect for the other. He was always the little boy pulling her hair, and she was always the little girl who would tattle on him to the teacher.

Honestly, outside of the bantering humor, is there anything the two sets of characters (and their relationships) have in common? I don't think so, and THAT is why I say let's stop the talk of the "Moonlighting Curse".  "Castle" is the polar opposite to "Moonlighting";the differences are literally night and day.  The wonderful writers of "Castle" have seen to that.

I loved when asked about their charcaters hooking up the answer is always "Yes, but not yet." Such a straight forward answer for a TV show. I adore it!

i love that they're not "well, maybe, maybe not."  i've never seen another show be so straight-forward.  good for them.

I feel like Bones has made such a big misstep there. It feels as though they missed the moment. I hope they will get together, but I feel as though they have really killed the "magic" where it should have happened for no real reason. When they finally go there, it won't be so much of an "Aw! Yes!" moment so much as, "It is about damn time."

Exactly. I really hope the writers on Castle don't make the same mistake because that's the kind of thing that makes the viewers lose interest t. If the draw out the Castle/Beckett thing for that long, the whole will they won't they aspect will be more frustrating than entertaining.

I think the writers/producers are very aware of problems like that. Rob Bowman worked on X-Files for it's entire run. He is well aware about drawing things out too long.

To be fair, keeping these two out of bed indefinitely is unrealistic. Rick Castle is a notorious ladies man. He isn't exactly taking them back to his place and playing hours of Scrabble. Absolutely, have them date a bit before hand, but I certainly wouldn't look to Castle to find a "wholesome" relationship…

Actually todays shows you can't find it anywhere and I think it would add a great elemt if he changed for her…yeah it's too much to hope for in these times for a clean show, that is why I watch mostly old tv shows…you didn't see crap like that on Walker and it did great! It's so dumb that they think they have to put that stuff in there when truthfully they are loosing alot of viewers for it…I seriously thought about quitting after the scene with his ex and luckly there hasn't been any more and if they must have it they don't have to show it on screen…but that is just my beliefs and I would hate to have an amazing show ruined for me because of something so unnecissary!

I think it's actually very opposite. I've never heard a person quit watching a TV show just because there's sex. Even my most repressed friend turns her head during those types of scenes. She's not praying for it to happen, but she understands that the majority of the public isn't bothered by that sort of thing. Sex is such an important thing in today's culture that it's actually more awkward when you remove that type of relationship. I'm not saying get them into bed right now, or even show it to us graphically… What I am saying, is that the show wouldn't work without the sexual tension, and as everyone knows, the only way to resolve sexual tension is with sex.

Of course its totally unrealistic for them never to have s*x. They are two normal adults and quite obviously have an attraction to each other so it will happen one day, its when that has us all guessing.

Nope sorry I don't see Castle in that light at all, he's a wicked ladies man and could show Kate a terrific time and I don't mean just in bed although I'm quite sure with his 'experiance' that would be pretty damn spectacular too Bounce

It would be out of character for both of them to not sleep together. I haven't seen the slightest clue that Kate is the wait until the marriage type.  I'm pretty sure she was sleeping with her FBI ex-boyfriend. On a totally shallow note, I'll take more shirtless Castle.

I suppose the sex issue is something we'll have to agree to disagree on. I think they should. I can respect the beliefs of someone else, really I can, but this isn't 7th Heaven.

I don't see Castle changing that side of himself for Beckett. Will the man-whorishness disappear if he really wants to be with her? Certainly. But no sex while they're dating? Simply unrealistic for the whole tone of the show. They don't need to shoot an hour of Castle/Beckett porn or anything, but I think removing that element completely is simply wrong for the type of show this is.

AND luckily for us Nathan has no quarms about getting his gear off so we may be lucky! OK I know we're not going to get full frontal but a few more shirtless or tight t-shirt would be super shiny.

Neither of them should have to change I don't think. Yep the sparks fly and that's part of the fun but I think Rick is growing up and Kate is loosening up so they are just naturally meeting in the middle.

I think he's reigned in his man-whorishness since he met Kate. We've definitely seen a reduction in his playboy ways which I think is a bit of a shame as a jealous Kate could be quite fun to watch.

Agreed itsmyworld, its NOT 7th Heaven
