Old-media promo for 'Castle'Mystery novel tie-in set for second season of ABC series

As networks brainstorm dizzying high-tech ways to promote shows online and via social networks, ABC is adopting a decidedly retro medium to excite viewers for the upcoming second season of “Castle”: a book.

Because the show's protagonist, Richard Castle, is a best-selling author of mysteries, what more appropriate tie-in than to publish an actual mystery novel written by the character?

Starting Aug. 10, the first chapter of a novel titled “Heat Wave,” credited to Richard Castle, will debut on ABC.com as a round of on-air repeats lead up to the Season 2 premiere in late September. 

The network will post the first half of the book, a chapter a week, for 10 weeks. The full novel will be published Sept. 29 by Disney sister company Hyperion. The story apparently is a stand-alone mystery with cross-over elements to the on-screen story. 

The network teamed with Hyperion for 2006's “Lost” tie-in “Bad Twin” and “The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer,” which tied in to the ABC miniseries “Rose Red.” Both sold quite well. The real author of “Heat Wave” is not being unveiled.

I am utterly impressed by this effort that ABC is putting on for Castle. And I'm a book worm, so I'm about to wet myself! Laugh This is fantastic! There are articles everywhere on the internet, my Google Alert had over 10 links with the same article and different variants. What do you all think?

Given that it's called Heat Wave I'm thinkin' it's going to feature Nickki Heat… 

Thanks for pointing this out, I'm slipping behind right now because other committments have to take priority just now (the downside of sites like this being un-funded is that you have no choice but to make them a lower priority at times, wish I could committ more time but I have to pay the bills!)

Hey, I thnk we all understand that  real life takes priority.

Nikki Heat novels have so much potential to influence the show. The mind boggles.

Yes, a real book. It will be released a chapter at a time for the first half of the book one chapter per week will be posted on the ABC website, then a week after Season 2 airs, they will release an actual printed version.

Wow, this is awesome news.  By the way, if you type in http://www.richardcastle.net you end up back at the abc castle site, I wonder if they'll use this at all?

And does this mean we get to see Nikki Heat cover art Wink.

Understand that life and paying the bills takes priority, the site is still the best fan site.

This is great!!! I'm a total 'book worm' myself, so this is just fantastic news! I can't wait to read it, I wonder if it will be the first Nikki Heat novel that we saw Castle writing throughout the first season. I think I'd like that.

No problem, I'm on several fansites and know how hard it is to balance real life with staying up-to-date on things. You just keep doing your thing, though, cause this is definitely my favorite Castle fansite Wink . Home life always comes first.

I'm wondering if they're really going to have the Beckett-shocking cover art with that gun "strategically placed." That would be a fun little inside joke Laugh . And I can't wait for them to refer to it in Season 2. This is going to be a lot of fun!

If their idea is for this to be Castle’s first Nicky Heat book then they will either have to have that cover or address the issue of the changed cover in the 1st ep of season 2 which comes out the week before the book does……. or………they could just do whatever they like LOL

Thanks again for the kind words about the site, it’s good to know the hard work is appreciated, even if only by a few! I'm hoping to try and figure out how to do something kinda special in the next month or so so stay tuned!

Oh my, I didn't even think of the cover art thing. Yes, that would be hilarious! I wonder if they'd get Stana to pose for it (I doubt it) or if they'd have a *fictional* character/model on the front. I'm looking forward to seeing how they work this book into the seasons, I'm hoping there's a book signing somewhere in Season 2 simply because the one in Season 1 was so delicious!

And Admin, you do indeed do a great job with this site, I can't even imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into maintaining, never mind updating, a website. I'm sure that, should you need assistance, there are more than a few of us who would be more than willing to help in whatever way we can. Just let us know if we can pitch in somehow, I very highly doubt I'm the only one who would  be willing to lend a hand :)
