He's made a few comments to Martha about not knowing who his father is so who do you think it could be?

Yes. At last we are starting to get Beckett poking around in Castle's upbringing. Should find out soon, I hope.

I imagine his father was some riverboat gambler or probably just a fellow struggling actor whom Martha met at an audition.

But then again, she may have had another previous occupation too…

I'm on the fence about knowing who Castle's dad is. On one hand, it may give some genetic insight to Castle's behaviour but I think not having a father figure around speaks volumes!!

As for just for fun speculation, it would be great if it was someone famous (a writer – Castle got his dad's genes!!, an actor that MArtha had a whirlwind romance with!!, etc)

I don't know – I'm really bad at speculating!! But I would think it was some1 that MArtha had a fling with (like a co-star or director!!)

same. I think that's why he's such a great, caring father for Alexis. Even todays episode (the Halloween one) showed that he really cares for his daughter!! If suddenly it was found out, it may get weird………like a drama show meets Maury and Jerry Springer!!

If it adds to the character, then I'd like to see it. And I think Castle's relationship with his daughter is at least as important to my enjoyment of the show as his relationship with Beckett. (Of course, I'm a dad with a daughter, myself.)

I have opinions or theories on what his father might have been or is like. I've thought at times that his father could have been involved in some unsolved case and that’s what drives Castle to write his books. I've also thought that possibly his father was a bad parent and that’s what makes Castle such a caring father. As far as will we ever find out? It doesn’t matter to me with it or without the show will still continue to excel. :)

I'm wondering how much Castle and his father are alike and different.

The reason why he's such a good father is because his parents were never there for him growing up.

Castle has been married twice and is considered a playboy. I'm wondering how his dad not being there for him influenced him. Judging from the episodes he clearly does not want a long term relationship.

I've thought that too. Like what if Castle's father was connected somehow to Beckett's mom. We really don't know anything about either character.

As far as the show goes it seems like he really doesn't know who his father is. I kind of wonder if we could maybe get a situation where some old love of Martha turns up and claims to be Rick's father – and hopes to get his share of Castle's money….or something like that.

What I also wondered, how much of that story he tried to feed to Beckett about his past was true?

"Oh Castle, the things you don't know about me – they could fill a book!"

Oooo, I like this. It would test the strength of the Castle/Beckett relationship. Having said that, Beckett is well aware that the person responsible for the crime is the only person responsible and has nothing to do with those they surround themselves with. However, the writers are clever enough to manipulate the situation. This could make for an interesting plot indeed that could have a massive impact on the dynamics of Castle and Beckett.

hmmm this would be VERY interesting. Just like on Alias, where Sydney's mom was responsible for the death of Vaughn's father…anything that copies Alias is A+ in my book ;) But yes, I think it would be an interesting dynamic. I definitely cannot wait for them to return to the Beckett's mom storyline, and even more, and I am incredibly curious about Castle's past and why he become obsessed with the macabre.

Oh, if Castle's father had something to do w/ Beckett's mom's murder…it could be either interesting, or too bleh. Like…i think it could screw with the characters in a way we really don't need to. You know? Or it would be too convenient, having them be tied together that way. I don't know how to describe it, exactly.

I actually really like that his father is so unknown.

Although…it would be kind of neat if his dad was a cop. I mean, we really never DID get a good reason as to why he likes to write about crime and mystery… :) Maybe he feels drawn to it, and maybe his dad was a cop from somewhere else. That would be kind of neat, maybe? Just with no direct ties to NYC or Beckett's past…
