What? [Jumps up and heads over to ep 215 pre-discussion.]

I really hope they don't make a mystery out of who is father is. That is one story that just holds no interest for me whatsoever. An episode? Okay. An arc? Kill me now. lol
If this were a different type of show, I think I would be okay with it, but as it is, there hasn't been a thing in the story that suggests we really need to know this. Finding out more about Castle's feelings on the subject may be okay and interesting, but an actual "Who is my father?" mystery just seems so… cliche for lack of a better term.

Yes, but eventually, they will solve the mystery of who was responsible for Johanna's death. Just like Lost, when they solve a major plot point, they have to introduce new questions.

The fact that they're bringing the question up for pondering makes me think it will have a more prominent role in Season 3. I figure they'll be wrapping up the Beckett murder no later than the season 3 premiere. Trust the writers. I'm sure they will do a good job with it, and there will be other story arcs too, I'm sure.

Hmm… I don't think it's Chet. That's getting a little soapy if you ask me.

I'm more inclined to believe we have not met (or heard about) Castle's daddy yet. Something tells me we'll know him the very instant we meet him, though. ;)

It would be interesting if Martha thought she knew but was wrong. Although- I don't know my feelings on the story arc, so I'm just going to settle back and enjoy the ride.

Sorry guys, but unless it turns out to be someone particularly interesting (see below) and/or gives them an excuse to bring Martha to the fore in one of these episodes, i don't think i care who Rick's daddy is.

In response to an earlier suggestion – i doubt Robert Wagner is a candidate to play said daddy as he just appeared on NCIS as Anthony Dinozzo Sr. Being two daddies on two different shows on two different networks is a bit much. I vote for (just because i'd love to see him) Sean Connery – just think of the delicious " a certain unnamed British spy" lines they could use…

Now I don't think Sean Connery would match for Nathan's father, but I LOVE Sean Connery!

But I agree, I'm sure the writers are already developing other story arcs and if not they'll get around to it eventually and I'm sure they'll do a terrific job with it.

I can just see that conversation with Castle and Martha.

I'm thinking his father is a low life person, that she just met once; a famous person that only Martha knows about and hasn't told a soul; or it could one of her one/two husband(s) that she had in the past.

Either way its going to be interesting.

Personally, I'm also interested in what Beckett will think if Castle's father is revealed in this episode…or perhaps even better if we do NOT find out who Castle's father is and Beckett discovers that indeed it does bother Castle not to know who his father is.   

Good point, Rvandsing. It's likely this episode will help her see more depth in his character and suck her in a little more.

I kinda hope that's what it is myself. I really don't see what knowing who Castle's father is will add to the series. Is he going to become another regular? IMO there are just the right amount of regulars. I'm not interested in seeing another one added.

Also, as Martha said in "The Third Man," Castle is surrounded by women yet he knows so little about them. That's kind of an overarching theme of the series for me, especially since he's met the woman who he can't charm into his bed but with whom he wants something much more meaningful. Having an absent father suddenly turn up doesn't add anything and for me, would take a little bit away from the Castle/Martha interaction because a HUGE element of their relationship would be completely changed.

Having his father show up all of a sudden after all these years couldn't possibly NOT change their relationship. You may call it "creating a new dynamic," but to me it would be a MAJOR change.

Furthermore, we can't assume his father will be admirable, nor do I think Castle would want him to be proud of him at all. Sure, Castle wants the approval of Beckett and Alexis and, to a lesser extent, his mother, but other than that, Castle doesn't care what other people think about him. Least of all someone who has been a stranger his whole life, biological ties or not.

Ooh, now that has possibilities! And even echo Beckett's 'maybe I don't want to know' from 2x01. I could definitely see him (if faced with the possibility of knowing) choosing to leave things the way they are.

Lol, it would be a bit of a stretch but the one guy I can think of who is 1) British, 2)old enough to be Castle's father, and 3) one of the original playboys and STILL hot even in his older years is none other than…. Michael Caine! Haha, and well, he did play the father of another "certain British spy" so imagine the gags they could pull off with that!

nathan has already stated he wanted christopher walken to be his dad on the show…. enuf said lol
