OfflineIMW – Agreed. I always figured it happened in her mid-twenties, once she had already started to develop her acting love/talent.

OfflineI agree. If she wasn't already somewhat established in her career it would have made it almost impossible without some extended family or something to take up the slack.
It just came up on another thread, and I posted this:

QUOTING PAMFROMCALIFORNIA
I also hope that the writers find something else for Castle & Beckett to get into besides her Mom's murder that bring them together even more as working partners and lovers. I don't know what but something really big that gives all the cast pieces to a puzzle that will take them seasons to crack.

Once they get the Beckett murder out of the way, I figured they'd bring Castle's unknown father into the fun.
There couldn't be that many candidates right? Of course if Martha didn't actually know the man, i.e. one night stands with one or more chance met men? There'd be some detective work involved for sure. The guy could have been married, or someone who passed through Martha's life as quickly as he came. (and Jim Beckett is *not* an option!)
One of the thing's I've always wondered about was the name Castle. It would seem that regardless of her marital status, Martha would use the same stage name, Martha Rogers. So where did the name Castle come from? Was she married to a Castle around the time Rick was born, so the stepdad gave Rick the use of his name? At one time I speculated Castle to be a pen name, but then Molly wouldn't be using it if that were the case. And let's face it, "Richard (Rick) Rogers"?
Someone please tell me if I'm remembering Heat Wave correctly. Didn't Rook use a stepdad's last name? Have I missed any "clues" on this subject?

I'm not especially interested in who fathered Castle. It doesn't really add anything to the story for me personally.
I feel the same way. The father is so far out of the picture at this point and Castle clearly isn't all that interested in that particularly mystery, I don't think it would add much.
I am however intrigued by that phoney-balony story he gave Beckett in the Halloween episode about where his fascination with the macabre comes from. He obviously dodged the question which makes me wonder if there's something more to the real answer.

Offlinewow!!! Good call guys!! Looks like you guessed this one!
I find it curious that a man who is a mystery writer- and clearly passionate about mysteries- doesn't appear to be remotely interested in the mystery of who his father is – no less!! Hmmm… me thinks there is more to this than meets the eye!!
Maybe tracking down Castle's father could be a little side project of Castle's and Becketts.. hmm!!!

OfflineI really hope they don't make a mystery out of who is father is. That is one story that just holds no interest for me whatsoever. An episode? Okay. An arc? Kill me now. lol
If this were a different type of show, I think I would be okay with it, but as it is, there hasn't been a thing in the story that suggests we really need to know this. Finding out more about Castle's feelings on the subject may be okay and interesting, but an actual "Who is my father?" mystery just seems so… cliche for lack of a better term.

OfflineYes, but eventually, they will solve the mystery of who was responsible for Johanna's death. Just like Lost, when they solve a major plot point, they have to introduce new questions.
The fact that they're bringing the question up for pondering makes me think it will have a more prominent role in Season 3. I figure they'll be wrapping up the Beckett murder no later than the season 3 premiere. Trust the writers. I'm sure they will do a good job with it, and there will be other story arcs too, I'm sure.

OfflineIf Martha had a one night stand??????? Have you not been watching the same show as the rest of us – Martha makes Castle look like a monk. And good on her.
Sorry guys, but unless it turns out to be someone particularly interesting (see below) and/or gives them an excuse to bring Martha to the fore in one of these episodes, i don't think i care who Rick's daddy is.
In response to an earlier suggestion – i doubt Robert Wagner is a candidate to play said daddy as he just appeared on NCIS as Anthony Dinozzo Sr. Being two daddies on two different shows on two different networks is a bit much. I vote for (just because i'd love to see him) Sean Connery – just think of the delicious " a certain unnamed British spy" lines they could use…
