I think that the twist will be Beckett finding out that Castle has those files, Beckett will be angry at Castle for keeping information from her in order to protect her
I don't think she will find out about the files until later on in the season (March/April). I see them building up their relationship and then she comes across the files and that is their first major test.

Probably. But I also think they are going to solve Johanna's murder in the first episode because that is about the only thing that could keep them safe after the sniper (unless the sniper is completely unrelated to JB's murder). The way I see it going down is that Castle has the files, he manipulates the situation so that they can solve the case and hides the files from everyone to keep both Roy and Kate safe. Later in the season, the case against the dragon begins to fall apart (remember when Castle first brought up Beckett's mom's case? she said the thought of the person getting away with it sickened her and that maybe she didn't want to know…) and Castle has no choice but to reveal the files, thus betraying Beckett.
It could make for some good dramatic tension and Castle would have an out.

OfflineI doubt that the case will be solved in ep 1. There's too much of storyline sill there. Too much the writers could work with. I agree and feel that they won't touch the end of the case til at least the 2nd half of season 4. As to any remaining feelings that the twist might be Beckett's pregnancy not only would that just be a horrible idea seeing as they would cause several thousand, maybe even millions, of fans to start a sort of hate towards TPTB but there is no way possible that even if Beckett were pregnant with Josh's kid (HIGHLY unlikely), even if she survived a professional sniper hit that baby would not. No way possible. So, it wouldn't even be possible for Beckett to be pregnant….just saying…anyway I'm all for some twist involving JB's case, but I doubt it will be solved. Maybe Beckett finds out about Montgomery's package sent to (possibly and probably) Castle…
September come faster!!
Are we even sure it's going to be a bad sort of twist? What if it's something good, like Beckett remembers Castle's ily? (One can dream…) [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]

Everything is possible…
especially that this is the premiere episode of the season and following the pattern of previous seasons (2x01 and 3x01) this one theoretically should end on a happy note for Caskett shippers… [Image Can Not Be Found]

You're both right. I guess the finale was just so freaking epic compared to season 1 and 2 my mind keeps telling me our hearts will be broken. But if the pattern hold true the episode will end and both Castle and Beckett will be grinning. Maybe it's Beckett forgiving Castle for getting in a scuffle with Josh. I can imagine him saying something sweet about defending her. Of course we don't know what the circumstances are.

OfflineFor me though, I just can't help shake the feeling that their are only two ways out of the story they created in Knockout. They have to deal with the threat the person behind JB's murder poses for the show to even work, I think, which means that they either have to make it so the gang knows he won't gun for them again or they have to completely take him down. Otherwise, I don't think the show can deliver on the Castle formula convincingly (witty banter, sexual chemistry, goofy murders, comedy), and I think that's something interesting because I can't get it out of my head that I think they wrap up JB's murder in that first episode. I honestly think that only something like that would allow the show to recapture the magic after such an 'island moving' finale, and with an episode titled Rise, I get the sense that they are ready to move on.
Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if Castle and Beckett get together in that first episode because I think they are going to try and change up the show to an extent. I read that article about Moonlighting and Castle that someone on here posted about how those shows can move past the will they/won't they by creating a new story-arc that focuses on whether these two can be a couple instead of SHOULD they be a couple. If the show want's to get back to that sizzling banter, chemistry, and clever murders that have made it so good so far, then they have to convincingly deal with the aftermath of Knockout, but they also have to deal with the story itself. For me, when I look at the structure of this story, didn't Knockout feel like a denouement? And since I think JB's murder has intricate parallels with Castle and Beckett's relationship (I could go on forever, but think about all the important moments–pigtails, kiss, the talk–they all occurred during her mom's case), that's where we can find clues. The initial story and the rising action occurred in season 1 when they introduced the characters and the relationship and when Beckett confesses to Castle in "A Chill…" about her mother. Then we get more rising action at the end of season 1 and throughout season 2 as Kate kills Coonan and gets closer to Castle, and the climax occurs in Knockdown when they discover the full extent of the conspiracy behind what they are investigating (even though they don't know who it is) and take down Lockwood. Knockout is all about the falling action and the denouement as they get closer and closer to the truth, where the funeral itself is the denouement.
I think that's partly why the season premiere is called Rise (though I do think it embraces an optimism that the show has been missing for a while too), I think that title refers to "rising action" and I think they will end the story of JB's murder and recognize the denouement, then they will begin a new story-arc that will begin the rising action to something else. They will introduce new characters, new story arcs, and different relationships, and that to me indicates that unless they are going to break up Castle and Beckett for a while (which wouldn't be so bad in my book–they have alot to deal with right now and giving them time would be great), then they would need to enter a new phase both in the relationship and with regard to JB's murder.

I don't think they'll wrap up the JB case in the first episode. Remember what AM said in one of his post-Knockout TvGuide interviews :
The finale also reveals that there's still a mystery man out there connected to Johanna Beckett's murder.
Marlowe: We have a great concept of how we want to follow that up in the next couple of seasons. That's going to be vital in some decisions I'm making going into next season. We foreshadowed it a bit with Castle having to protect Beckett from herself at the end of the episode. Next season, with Castle knowing somebody is out there, [Beckett] becomes his responsibility. It changes the nature of their relationship and makes it significantly more interesting, especially given what happens the last 10 seconds of the show.
"In the next couple of seasons" means that it will probably not be solved in the first episode. I doubt it will be solved before season 5.

Hmmmm… I personally think that the conclusion of the case will be the 2-parter, at the same she finds the file. If you look at the pattern all of the JB eps in the second half of the season
I agree with you but I also suspect that Castle could allow Beckett to think the case is solved when they catch a mid level person in Dragon's army. Then we'll find out in a later season that the dragon was still out there. That is possible too, and would create a lot of anxiety knowing she is thinking it's over, but it isn't.
