I love the whole Moonlighting angle - I recently bought Moonlighting on DVD because I hadn't seen it since the 80s and I remembered really enjoying it - I can totally see how Castle could work with this kind of character dynamic, though perhaps just a tad less extreme.

Really? I was totally hot for the “Murder, She wrote” angle… with Nathan as a sexy Jessica Fletcher. Although it would require a fair amount of altruism from the Castle character. I'm sure he'll bring more depth to the self-absorbed, cocky prick I predict the series has written him to be.

It does sound like Castle has been written this way, but that's one of the amazing talents Nathan has…the ability to bring warmth, and humor to otherwise unlikable characters. I mean, Malcolm Reynolds wasn't exactly a warm and fuzzy kinda guy. Like you said, and I agree, Nathn will bring a depth and and also redeemable quality that not all other actors could pull off.

I suspect we'll see Richard Castle turns out to be a “shallow on the outside-deep on the inside” kinda character - much like the Bruce Willis character on Moonlighting - I think one of the hints of this is that he has a teenage daughter at home, and he's just allowed his mother to move in as well…

Does he say it's like Moonlighting? (The video won't play for me, I'm on dial-up, my comuter only cooperates with Youtube for streaming videos. ) I loved Moonlighting, but I have to admit that worries me a bit. I'm sure things won't go quite that far, or self-destruct so spectacularly. ha ha
I'm not worried about Nathan's character being obnoxious, he's far too charming, it always shines through.

He says “a little bit of Murder She Wrote meets Moonlighting and I'll be playing Jessica Fletcher and Bruce Willis, leaning on the Bruce Willis side” “he's helping a homicide dectective that he's very fond … solve murders…”
Judging by what I know of the pilot - it won't be so over the top as Moonlighting was, but more of a drama infused with humour along the way.

Thank you, Castle!
Yeah, I doubt any show will ever go so far as Moonlighting did, if only because it would be accused of copying it. Witty banter and sexual tension are always good, though.
