I just snagged a copy of Naked Heat at the library.  I was waiting until I was caught up with all the Castle episodes before I dove into the novels.  The show tie-ins with Heat Wave were limited, but I understand there are a lot more and more significant ones with the second and third book.  I am really looking forward to Naked Heat and Heat Rises afterward.

I started with Heat Wave on Saturday and am already about a third of the way through Heat Rises (me in reading mode = messy apartment) and all I can say is that they are pure fun! Heat Rises seems to be a little more serious.

Murder mysteries are not usually my cup of tea in books (although it's pretty much all I watch on TV), but I'm loving these ones. So fun to see all our characters in a bit of a different light and pick out all the connections to the show. I love that Nikki Heat is Castle's fantasy Beckett. And I think that Rook is just a bit cooler/smoother than Castle. Their relationship is totally AU Castle/Beckett…you know, a universe where people actually act on their feelings and communicate with each other. Nikki and Rook make the books for me…the murder mysteries are just a fun medium for it all to unfold.

I have to say though…if Kate has read these books, how could she ever have had any uncertaintly about Castle and his feelings toward her? Between the Rook/Heat relationship and the acknowledgements, it should be pretty clear.

I also really want to know who wrote them. I waver between…"it must be Andrew Marlowe" and "Nah, not Andrew…"

I'm off to work for a few hours and all I can think is "I'd rather be reading"…maybe I'll find some downtime to pull our my e-reader.

last week, I bought "heat rises" and i finished it yesterday.it's really good. the case is complicated, we understand it little by little and there are many bouncing.

what i love, is that, i imagined every scene with the real characters. I tried to visualize stana katic or nathan fillion.

I loved this book and I should receive "naked heat" on monday!!  Love2

From all the three books, I liked "Heat Rises" best. It has the most evolved plot and the characters are in my mind not solely inspired by Rick's buddy's as the 12th but take on a life of their own. They become more fleshed out, especially Nikki and Rook and their partnership/relationship. In the way in which they interact with each other they are at this point quite different from Rick and Kate, they actually talk and communicate and it brings them closer together. To me it is developing its independent dynamic from the series. Obviously, there are still scenes, information, characters that hark back to many Castle episodes but in spite of that, in this last book I became really engaged in the story for the story's sake and for the characters' sake.

I only read the first 2 books "Heat Wave" and "Naked Heat" and will buy "Heat Rises" in summer during my trip to the US. Liking the story of the second book much more than the first one I´m really anxious how the third one is.

It´s fun to recognize a scene or a sentence from the show in the book again.

I haven't read Heat Wave, I read parts of it on the web and didn't find it worth the 15 euros. I did buy Heat Rises because everyone said it was so much better than the other two books and really enjoyed it. Nikki Heat is quite the supercop Tongue I just started reading Naked Heat and it seems to be interesting.

What would bother me if I'd read the books without knowing the show – at no point does the author describe his characters. We have no idea what Nikki or Rook look like. I don't see Nikki and Rook as Kate and Rick so they are a bit faceless for me.

In general, those books are a huge promo for the Caskett relationship. They scream "see Kate, this could be us, we'd work great together and the sex would be awesome" Laugh Rook is the perfect boyfriend. Whenever I read (and enjoy) scenes with Rook and Nikki I laugh inwardly because I'm thinking "Oh Castle…"

I hate the covers, though! They make the books look like a cheap bodice ripper. When I read them on the bus I leave the covers at home!

thank you for your answer. i'm not interrested in "heat wave". I saw reviews of several people and it's not the best. I will read "naked heat" and i hope, it will be great.

and yeah, the covers are not really great but it doesn't matter, i think (for the producers).

Well, I read Heat Wave and Naked Heat, and like Martha said, they "are not exactly Shakespeare." I only read them to flesh out a bit of the background of Rick Castle, and in the context of the show, they were worth it. But as stand-alone books, they wouldn't be anything but a light diversion that I wouldn't recommend with enthusiasm.

I'd give Heat Rises to a friend. And even though about 80% of the books I read are crime novels I'd never heard or read anything from James Patterson. Rented a book from him – that's not exactly Shakespeare, either…

I like Nikki. But in my head she looks more like Natalie Rodes than Kate Beckett… damn that episode Tongue

I don't know if the character of nikki is different in the first, second or last book but in "heat rises" i like it.

beckett is maybe a character with more depth than nikki but she is based on her.

I wonder if that reflects Rick's growing understanding of, and respect for, Kate?

Yep I'd say she's changed in the third book. She's much more Kate-like and to a lesser degree, much more Rick-like too.

Originally, I wanted to stay away from the books, but then last summer, they got me. I was watching a youtube clip with Stana & Nathan reading a page from "Heat Wave" (at ComicCon2010) for the ca. 100th time. Absolutely hilarious!!! And then, I couldn`t resist anymore… Crazy

After that, reading "Heat Wave" was pure fun. Definitely not Shakespeare, but you can`t read Shakespeare all the time… And my active imagination contributed a lot. Laugh IMO, "Naked Heat" is a bit better, though. Both books of light reading. Perfect to feed my OCD!

Haven`t read "Heat Rises" yet, but it`s on my bookshelf. After reading the posts, I´m really tempted to read it right away. (The thing is, I decided to focus on university stuff until my exams are done in 5 weeks, enough to read there… Crazy2) Hmm…

There is no curse!
