Received this email and thought someone might like to work on this for an article on the site or even the wiki?
One suggestion for assistance on this site would be some sort of
translator for the various New York and local places they talk about.
For instance, Castle told Beckett that he couldn't hear any "bridge or
tunnel" in her accent. (That one, luckily, he then explains straight
afterwards as her being pure Manhatten). But all the comments about
"He'd never come as far north as that" or "What would she be doing in X"
(X being some numbered street in NY) means so little to me, an
Australian who has only been let loose on NY once. I vaguely know that
there's the Bronx and Brooklyn and Queens (thanks to "Coming to
America"), and Long Island (which I had to look up and was stunned at
how long it actually is), and I know it's near to New Jersey (Betty Boop
Accent) and Connecticutt, but if I'm having trouble then there will be
others.Perhaps a long term project for a clickable map with all the locations
on it and an explanation of roughly what sort of area it is?

The only one I know is that whenever they say "Lex" they mean Lexington Avenue, a major street in the city. I got nothing otherwise.
Ok, I'll let my geekiness show. I actually watch the show and read the books with a map of Manhattan handy. I've even gone and looked for the locations they talk about on Google maps street view. (I know they cheat and do the filming in LA, but it's still fun to find the "real" locations where they use stock footage.) Avenues run north/ south and Streets run east/west.
For example, when Castle and Beckett argue about taking Broadway in COUNTDOWN, it's because Broadway cuts across the island like the long side of a right triangle. It should be faster but it "slows down in the 70s" ie when Broadway is crossing 70th thru 79th streets. They take 11th Avenue (going south down the west side of the island) and then cut across 48th (going east). In other words, the take the other two sides of the triangle…
…Oh god, I really am geeky…
I'm not a NYC native and haven't been there in years but I get most of what they are talking about. How would you like to do it? We'd need figure out what needs to be translated into non-New Yorker talk. (And I'd need help getting onto the site since I'm computer disabled in many ways…)
But I'll help!
PS…
Wouldn't it be great to have a Castle convention in NYC for the 100th episode? ( I know we're at episode 51, but I have faith!) What a blast! We could even treasure hunt locations…

Offline- In the first to seasons, and not so much in the third, Lexington ave was mentioned a lot.
- In S1- FURRY Castle said something about B & T'ers – I had to look that up in my handy dandy urban dictionary and found out it mean Bridge and Tunnel – so B & T'ers (not to be confused with T & A) are people that live in New York, just not on the island (I guess). I suppose I should get a map out and take a look.
- There's also been references to different areas in Central Park (was there an Alice in Wonderland reference?)
and on and on and on …
Something that's not so "tech heavy" as an interactive google map, like a list, that gives us a definition of the areas they have talked about would be helpful to those of us that have never experienced NY, NY!

ACF – I can post whatever is written by someone else on the wiki as I've become slightly obsessed with updating it. So no worries there.
You've got yourself a deal. Sign me up! I do my best but I'd like to have a native New Yorker help. Anyone interested?

From what I understand, the B&Ter's came from other places and moved or commuted into the Manhattan (through the Holland Tunnel (from Jersey) or the various other bridges. You could tell the guys from Jersey vs. Long Island vs. Brooklyn by there accents. The people that I knew from New York that have been there for generations in a specific borough used to have specific accents (almost like Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady being able to place Eliza Dolittle's accent) but things have changed a bit since then with people being more mobile now .
The Alice in Wonderland Statue is in east side of the park around E78th Street. It's really beautiful. http://www.centralparknyc.org/…..rland.html
We could add google map links that show the street view and/or map if needed.
Is this the type of thing you're interested in Admin?

Yup, all sounds good so far
Ok! How do we find out what information is needed? Can you pin a thread at the top of the boards where people can post questions? That way, anyone with expertise could answer and if there are no takers I can do the research. I've still got a contact in New York who might be able to help. Email me if you'd like to work out more details.
This is going to be fun!
… and maybe I can talk my husband into a trip to New York "for research" for my birthday! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Why not just start going through the episodes and making note of all the references (this could be done on the wiki) and then people with info on those references can expand the info?
Sounds like a good idea, Admin. I do not have time to do this as I barely have time to do what I do for the wiki. I created the page last night, called New York References. I'm working on the basic geography right now.

Go through the episodes… You mean watch them all again?! Yes sir, Captian! I mean Admin! I will do that for the good of Castle tv. [Image Can Not Be Found] I'm your girl!
