I've always been a fan of commentaries and when I look at the DVD sets lining my shelves I'm quick to realise I've been spoiled. A lot of the shows I watch have commentaries for every episode, particularly Stargate and Doctor Who and many others have numerous commentaries for each season even if not for every episode. Dare I mention Lord of the Rings that has FOUR commentaries for each title?
The first season of Castle had 4 commentaries between the 10 episodes but when the season 2 DVD set hit shelves a collective cry from the fans went out when…

OfflineWith so many different ways to see shows after their original air date, there is less of a reason to own the DVD's. It is the extras, and in particular the commentaries, that compel me to purchase a DVD. I am not interested in the "He's a great guy" or "That was a fun day" type of commentary. I want to know what went into a scene, either how the shot was accomplished or why reason behind the choices that were made.
A good example of this is John Frankenheimer's commentary on Ronin. He deconstructs the movie so you understand how the shots fit into the entire story being told by the film

OfflineAdmin – that has got to be my most favorite Castle picture EVER. Just had to say it!
I like commentaries that go into details about the making of the show or film. I don't like commentaries that give away part of the plot or when the commentator inserts a personal viewpoint, which sometimes happens, particularly, it seems, on classic film commentaries. I recently watched one of my favorite films, Laura, and the commentator kept stepping on the lines that the actors were just on the verge of speaking – even that very last, great line! That is so annoying.

OfflineI've really only just started watching the commentaries since buying my Castle DVD's. I also have Greys Anatomy and Bones on dvd that also have commentaries with them but never actually bothered watching them. I have always really liked the gag reels and bloopers and behind the scenes stuff available on the dvd's. Since watching the commentaries on Castle I wish every episode had a commentary as they really provide so much insight into the making of the episode. I'll probably get around to watching them on my other dvd's now too.
Here is your chance to vote on which episode you want to have commentary.

I agree with that. I still don't own Castle's season 3. I can't afford the 40 bucks but if they had more commentaries (for 3x24 or 3x13 for instance!!!) and with more commentators (Stana!) I'd buy it right away because I love commentaries. I recorded almost every episode on my DVR anyway. When they release Castle on BluRay though… I'll buy it whatever it costs!
I voted for Cops&Robbers BTW and I'd love to hear Susan Sullivan on the commentary.
