Hi all. I've just bought these via an Amazon reseller – I'm in the UK, which doesn't get Castle released locally. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the discs sent to me are pirated. If I'm buying a set I want to know that it's supporting the show.

The seller (while willing, even anxious, to refund me) is still claiming they're legit, so I was hoping that some kind Castellan with a definitely-legit set could confirm a couple of details for me so that I can warn off other people. This is probably easier for people who watch on a PC.

1. What are the discs called (i.e. what name is shown for the DVD drive in Windows Explorer while they're inserted)? Mine are all called "NEW", which I've never seen on commercial releases before.

2. In the Properties for the disc (right-click, Properties, General tab) what number do you see for Capacity? I'm seeing 4.35GB, i.e. DVD5, which I've never EVER seen for a commercial release.

The physical stuff is impeccable – including cardboard sleeve with embossing, shrinkwrap with sticker, lettering on the DVD inner ring etc – which is the only reason this wasn't a no-brainer for me.

Unfortunately seems like your DVDs are indeed pirated ones. I've checked all 5 discs of my season 3 DVD set purchased from Amazon.com as well, but not via resellers, but directly from Amazon.

Neither of them is called NEW. The name of the first disc is Castle_S3_D1_USA_DES, the second one – CS3-0N-NT2.1_DES, the third one – CS3-0N-NT3.1_DES, the fourth one – CS3-0N-NT4.1_DES and the fifth one – CS-0N-NT5.1_DES

As for capacity – each disc is double-layered and it's capacity is around 7.5 GB.

That's about what I expected; suspicions confirmed. Thank you very much for taking the time to check that.

You're welcome [Image Can Not Be Found] I hope you'll be able to return these DVDs and purchase the original ones. It's worth to pay a little bit more and be sure that you really support the show.

Oh, it's not about paying less – buying direct from Amazon.com would actually be cheaper, but they don't accept non-US credit cards, so resellers are the only game in town.

Pre-submit update: whoa, looks like Amazon.com do now accept foreign orders. I'm sure they didn't use to. Anyhow, I've ordered a new set from there, and the dubious seller seems very keen to refund me for the previous set, so the only question left is whether to report them to the Amazonian powers-that-be.

Thanks again!

I buy from amazon all the time with an Australian credit card! I've tried US, Canada & UK with no problems.

As you can see, I'm not in USA either and I buy directly from Amazon.com for many years, paying with my VISA issued here in Poland… and I NEVER bought anything from resellers.

Amazon.com ships internationally, you just need to indicate that it is international shipping.

I also order from amazon.com quite often, through my German account, I don't even pay per credit card I think… I use my daily bank account. And yes, I would definitely report that person! You didn't pay for pirate copies and it is illegal to produce them!

A British friends in general always browses all amazons to get the best bargain (plus her DVD player isn't code free so she can't watch US DVDs). Foreign DVD sets ususally have English audio, so she searches amazon.fr and amazon.de for the DVDs she wants to get (even books sometimes!)
