Sorry to create a thread just for this. Unless there is one and I didn't find it, and in that case I totally would like to have this moved.

How do you suppose Beckett spells her first name? And what, if we don't already know, do we think her middle name would be?

My friend's name is Katherine it's been shortened down to Katie, I've never actually heard her called Katherine before. 

I can see it being shortened to Kathy if the spelling was Kathryn. 

I know two Katherine, both go by Kate.

i also know only one katherine…and she goes by Kat haha

I remember Star Trek:Voyager, and how Captain Janeway's name was spelt "Kathryn". People in fics spelt it 'Catherine' or "Katherine" for the longest time.

I personally thought Beckett would spell it "Katherine", too, but I wasn't entirely sure. She just LOOKS like a "Katherine" and not a "Catherine" or "Kathryn", if that makes sense. "Katherine Beckett" looks better than "Catherine Beckett" or "Kathryn Beckett".

Wow. I feel like a nerd, now. Don't know why, but my whole 'typing out the name' thing makes me feel geekish.

I always saw it as Katherine is the name used when there's something important to tell her. "Katherine sit down we need to talk…." Other than that I've imagined her as going by Katie when she was growing up. Never really liking Kate because it was blunt and didn't capture her personality. But after her mom's murder, I see her doing a 180 and strictly going by Kate. Katie would be a painful reminder of what she lost.
