OfflineBrowsing you tube I came across 2 songs that sum up, for me, the moods of both Castle and Beckett in that last episode.
Both are golden oldies – some may never have heard either one before, but…listen to the words.
The first reflects almost exactly Castle's p.o.v. It's Gene Pitney's Last Exit to Brooklyn
There's only one word missing for this to be precisely his mind-set, the word: "almost" – as in "she (almost) swore that she'd be mine alone…"
The second is for Beckett. This song which sometimes has me reaching for a kleenex because the poetry is so pure
is Emmylou Harris singing words by Leonard Cohen in Ballad of a Runaway Horse. Again with very slight modifications, this
feels like exactly her predicament.

I think what was happening in the last few episodes is that they flipped their chi.
She, always very yang and working with men, became very yin. Vulnerable, like a reed in the wind.
He, always very yin and living with women, turned very yang. Active, like a hurricane.
(jrabbit's post elsewhere first got me thinking about this.)
So to me, after mulling much, the finale actually bodes well for their future.
It doesn't mean that the chi won't shift back again and still be dynamic, but maybe that big switcheroo is what threw me.
