OfflineLike the revised Deadline article, Variety is reporting a higher syndication price as well…1.3-1.5 mil, although they indicate the actual figure was not disclosed: http://www.variety.com/article…..;cmpid=RSS
Congrats to the Castle team! Hopefully it will bring in new viewers next summer too, and make Season 5 more likely. I know that's how I discovered Bones.

Okay, not knowing anything about this syndication thing – can someone explain it to me? I know it means that TNT will play "old" episodes – that's all?
Syndication is when a cable channel like TNT, USA, TBS, etc buys the rights to show repeats of network shows. Usually a syndicated show airs one episode a day 5 days a week. Some shows like NCIS or CSI get two shows a day b/c they have been around for 8 and 10 seasons respectively. Syndication doesn't affect new seasons or the likely hood of renewal. It's just a great opportunity for the show to make some $$$ and grab more viewers. Since TNT did not buy "exclusive" rights to the episodes that means that the show can reach out to other channels for syndication such as USA in addition to TNT.
Hope that helped

OfflineThank you for the explanation Alie. I was not sure either about what syndication meant.
I had read somewhere that syndication is also the time when networks are more free to do whatever they want with the show, in terms of creativity. I'm not sure about that. Is it because the rights have been bought by other channels, and the networks think they can take more risks with the storylines? I had read that in an article on couples in tv series, and how networks were not very willing to put two characters together before syndication.

OfflineDoesn't the pricetag also include that the actors get more money? I'm pretty sure that it means the actors will be getting royalties from it, which is great news for everyone and makes me a little happy for Ruben – at least his contribution to Castle will continue to reap benefits to such a great actor.

OfflineYes, the actors do get a share every time an episode airs. I had never heard of syndication meaning networks could take bigger chances on new eps/seasons, but that makes sense. Im surprised the rights were bought so soon b/c usually networks like to wait until they have 80+ episodes so it's cool that they are able to do it now.

They are free to do more because the syndication deal is already done. Usually they want to make sure they get it that far by being as safe as possible. Once the deal is done pretty much all bets are off.

OfflineAs great as the syndication news is, I'm a little disappointed that it's gone to TNT. I honestly think that USA would be a much better fit for Castle. That could still happen though, if it's really a non-exclusive deal (their press release reported it as 'exclusive'
.

That makes me hope they'll let them be a couple somewhere next season

OfflineThanks, Alie, now I understand it much better.
I can see new people catching Castle when it's on air the whole week. I remember getting hooked on L&O: SVU (season 2-4) when I was at vacation in the US and it played every day on USA – I got the DVD's after coming back to Germany after those 3 weekes ;-).
