What do you guys think could be the event that finally brings these two together? What are your top three reasons that could happen to have them realize they should be together and why? My top three are below
1. Castle takes a bullet for Beckett – She stays with him in the hospital and never leaves his side, and she thinks to herself if he wakes up she will tell him how much she loves him.
2. Beckett gets an offer from the FBI, but has to take the job in another city. Castle tells her it's a great opportunity, but Beckett says what if they're was something here she couldn't leave. When he asks what, and says him, they finally tell each other how they feel.
3. Beckett gets kidnapped while investigating who ordered the hit on her mother. Castle doesn't stop trying to find her and eventually saves her and when they meet he tells her how scared he was that he might never see her again or tell her how much he really loves her.

None of the above. Too soap opera-ish. Besides, they have already done those dramatic things, and that would imply they get together because of adrenaline – which might mean temporary. The most romantic thing would just be for Beckett to lean in and kiss him. Really. But writers might go for more drama or comedy than real…
I also think the writers should leak it that it's going to happen in S4 Ep 19 or something, but then spring it sooner. That would at least stop the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands.

I think it's pretty simple. Castle manning up and expressing his feelings and Beckett coming to the conclusion that she doesn't want fear to keep her from taking a chance and being with Castle then dealing with her insecurities and fears as they arise.

"We are programed by fear" – Kate Beckett in COUNTDOWN
I watched NANNY today at lunch and I really can't put my finger on it but in this episode (#2 in the series), she lets us know that she is afraid of "something in relationships". She tells us that 1) she has never been married and 2) that she's "One and Done".
At the end of the episode they are talking about the cheating husband and then there's Beckett's "whatever happens to him is not enough". She didn't say that because of the girl that was murdered, the girl that killed her friend or the family torn apart by the infidelity. There's something else there. At this point we did not know about Johanna's murder, BUT I don't think her reaction is due to that. I think that there is something else that we do not have a clue about yet. So that makes me wonder what else we will find out that happened to Ms. Beckett that makes her "Castle shy". There's more to the story that maybe we will find out "after".
Castle knows this too, because at the end of the episode he is writing – about her – and says that she's been hurt … . He has not approached this area of her life —- yet. And if I'm right once they are together, this might become an issue for them as a couple.

My thoughts that might bring Castle and Beckett together…
1) resolution to Johanna Beckett's murder, and the "release" that will bring to Kate. She will be more open to the possibility of a Castle in her life
2) Castle works his courage up OR accidently blurts out "Katheryn Beckett, I love you!!" (or Alexis says to Beckett "You know my dad loves you, don't you?"
3) there's an intervention. Let's see who would be there?
- Martha, Alexis, Lanie, Esposito, Ryan, Montgomery
- the guy from THE apartment in CHILL "are you guys always like this"
- Will Sorenson: ("Careful, Monkey Boy really likes you")
- Kyra Blaine-Murphy (he's all yours)
- Bachelorette #3 and the hose jockey (now married thanks to C & B)
- Lady Irena (from MISTRESS – she Knows!)
- Agent Jordon Shaw (He cares for you Kate)
- Tom Demming – didn't stand a chance and knows it
- Madison Queller (you want to make little Castle babies with him)
- Penny Marchand (because she really knows!)
- Royce (if he's still alive)
- Natalie Rhodes (Castle's gay – OR – you guys are secretly together – right)

I never really thought of it that way. That is a very interesting observation. Perhaps she was betrayed or deeply hurt by either a friend, former boyfriend, or something along those lines. Or maybe she whitnessed a really close friend in a situation similar and it really affected her. Or maybe we're just reading waay to much into it. [Image Can Not Be Found] Regardless, now you see the weight of whatever it is slowly being lifted by having Castle's presence in her life.

I like the 2 reason blurting it out or Alexis telling Beckett that her Dad loves her seeing Alexis really likes & looks up Beckett and wants to see her Dad happy.

I think it'll be something to do with the resolution of Beckett's mother's case. Nathan said that he thinks the resolution will result in Beckett realizing that she is Castle's missing piece and I think that is what will bring them together. Without having the feelings of incompleteness or inadequacy as a cop hanging over her, Beckett will be able to focus on just how much of a help Castle is to her in her work. And with the benefit of hindsight, she'll see how he helped get her through the case and was integral to helping her solve it. Then maybe something dramatic happens, like Castle gets hurt while working with her or seriously considers ending his shadowing (maybe this is the point where a new Mayor takes over and he finds he may not be able to help her out anymore), so she finally fesses up and confesses her feelings to him. The key will be will he be at the same point?

gotta agree with nev here.
i think its the tvguide article where he hints at this and i couldnt agree more. kate has to take this load of bricks off her shoulders of her moms case and the only person that not only "opened a can of worms" but also was instrumental in helping get the case blown wide open. Not only that but when all is said and done will the cases of the other people killed be solved as well?
Castle looked at this case with a totally different set of eyes and ears. he knew that there was something more to beckett than meets the eye and even though he didnt do it originally with her blessing she has totally opened up to him about her moms case and it has been the catalyst that has brought the two of them closer and closer together.
I know that i had a situation with a friend that haunted me for 3 years until i met another friend who helped me see the light and i was finally able to let the whole situation rest. it wasnt a murder of course but needless to say the 'new friend' that walked into my life by fate helped me see that it was my own self that was causing this feeling. I honestly had never opened up to a complete stranger like that and now we are very good friends. Getting that "load of bricks" off of my shoulders" was what i needed to get through that particular part of my life and i was grateful for it.
i can only imagine that once kate gets this off of her that she and we will see a different more grateful side of her especially with castle.

Let's see….they were almost frozen to death and they were almost killed by a bomb….and those incidents didn't have them say I love you…..what could make them finally say it to each other?…..more likely Castle's mom will finally tell Beckett how much Castle loves her…but I don't see it happening for a long time yet….

As we move towards the end of the season, and it is apparent that Castle has a subtle plan to get Beckett's attention (gives her the cast photo for Temptation Lane, tricks her into taking him to a movie with her), I can see Castle in the final episode getting frustrated that none of his gestures seem to be working on her and confronts her about it. Maybe in the finale, Beckett DOES go to Josh for help and comfort, or makes Castle think she did, and when the case is solved (because he wouldn't want to make her feel even worse during the case, especially if it does revolve around her mom), he confronts her ala "I've almost died with you several times, I've knocked you out of the path of a bullet on three occasions (is that right?), I bring you coffee every day and other gifts, even flowers and you still don't see what is right in front of you?" Maybe he doesn't come right out and say those three little words, but he definitely calls her out, like Esposito did.
Maybe it will take Castle to drop the patient gentleman he has been so far and flip out on her to really get her to see what everyone sees and what she has been denying to herself.

I've knocked you out of the path of a bullet on three occasions (is that right?)

Lets see what I can remember…
RETAIL – Castle knocked Beckett out of the way of a bullet.
HOME – Beckett steps on the bad guy's wrist while he's reaching for a gun (Go ahead, I need the practice) saving Castle
DEEP – Beckett saves Castle from being shot by the "Tattooed Russian" (Castle to Beckett: "Is it just my imagination or did you change")
SUCKER PUNCH – Beckett shoots Dick Coonan, saving Castle
TICK – Castle calls a showering Beckett warning her that Ben Conrad was NOT the killer, giving Beckett time to escape into the bath tub before her apartment blows up
BOOM – Castle frees Agent Shaw and then shoots the gun pointed at Beckett out of Scott Dunn's hand
WRAPPED – Castle gets chased up onto a car by a dog, ??? does Beckett "save" him???
AFFAIR – Esposito actually keeps Ryan (Annie Oakley) from shooting Castle, but Beckett and Ryan and Esposito all had their guns out and aimed at him … twice.
AFFAIR – At the end of the episode Castle and Beckett have their guns aimed "at each other" but are actually aiming at the bad guy/gal behind the other person.
GUN – everyone except Castle has a gun, so is he "saved" by anyone? Or does he save them by throwing dirt a the bad guy/gal
3XK – Beckett "rescues" Castle and Ryan from the hotel room after the killer has left
FOWL – Castle determines that the kidnapper is in the room and where he is, kills the lights so Beckett can go in and shoot the bad guy. I guess this doesn't really count
KNOCKDOWN – Beckett "saves" them both after Ragland is shot, but since the killer is a hit man and Castle and Beckett were not his targets, they were both safe, even though they didn't know it at the time.
KNOCKDOWN – Castle and Beckett kiss their way into the location where Ryan (mostly) and Esposito are being tortured by Hal Lockwood
KNOCKDOWN – Castle "jumps" Hal Lockwood before he can get a killing shot off at Beckett. Castle proceeds to beat the stuffing out of him.
SETUP – does the shootout in the warehouse and jumping into the freezer container count? If so, Beckett saves them both.
COUNTDOWN – Castle pulls the wires disabling the bomb.
Obviously I've missed some "events" but from this list I count
Castle saving Beckett from …
Bullets: Three (RETAIL, BOOM, KNOCKDOWN), FOUR if you count the ending of AFFAIR
Bombing: Twice (TICK, COUNTDOWN)
and Beckett saving Castle from …
Bullets: Three (HOME, DEEP, PUNCH) and again in AFFAIR
Dog: once (WRAPPED)
and there's the toss up events …
Bullets: Esposito saving Castle in AFFAIR
Bullets: in GUN everyone but Castle has one
Kidnapping: in 3XK Beckett rescues Castle and Ryan. Esposito helped
Bullets: in FOWL neither Castle nor Beckett was in imminent danger, but they had to take down the kidnapper
Bullets: in KNOCKDOWN after Ragland was shot, no one presummably was in danger
Bullets: in KNOCKDOWN – assume Ryan and Esposito each were going to get one before being rescued

Don't forget how Ryan and Esposito saved both Castle and Beckett from freezing to death. Awesome list jrabbit. And I thought I was obsessed with the wiki.
