No, no. At least I hope not.  I was thinking more like her parents had money.  She was raised a child of privilege.  She was on a path to do whatever rich offspring do and was blindsided by her mother's death.  The money is still there but she has been slumming it to pursue a life/career for which she feels passionate.

I've always thought Kate was rich, which is why she's not impressed with Castle's money.

While they haven't mentioned what her father does for a living, her mother was a lawyer and a professor. Combining those two, I assume, would mean that they lived more than comfortably. It may not make Beckett into a trust fund baby, but they're probably your a little more than average middle-class family. Cost of living in Manhattan has always been known to be pricier than other cities. Also, considering how sensible Beckett is, she doesn't seem like the type to demand a lot of material things from her parents. Simply put, I just don't see her as someone who goes on a regular shopping spree, maxing out her parents' credit cards, or even her own as she grew up.

She did mention that she modeled because it pays better than waitressing. From whatever she saved on that, she probably spent it on that trip to Kiev in college. She may have been wild in high school, but I think she has also had a mature side to her that includes being financially responsible. It's just something you don't learn overnight. Also, as an adult, she doesn't have dependents to take care of. Her salary as a detective, while measly in comparison to what Castle earns in advance for his books, most likely allows her to splurge every once in a while.

The laser tag per the stars commentary on the DVD I think Nathan mentioned it that it cost millions.
