I disagree with this too. Another reason to keep him as something other than a cop and as a writer is to keep the possibility that he could leave at any time, as Esposito pointed out at the end of season 2. This keeps the angst up.

i also vote no to castle becoming a detective just like that. it dosen't matter if he's in the mayor's good graces… you can't just jump the line like that from civilian to detective. one of the reasons castle can contribute so much is because he is a civilian, and isn't tied down by all the restrictions that being a cop comes with, whether it be the mounds of paperwork or making phone calls to escort agencies [Image Can Not Be Found]
there had been all that talk near the beginning of the season of castle going to get police training (perfect excuse to see beckett get even with castle getting him into shape in the gym yes?), but those hopes are now stilborn [Image Can Not Be Found]
i'm also not too keen on castle with a gun all the time. i don't want to see him shooting or even killing people. the only times he's used a gun is at the range or when he's protecting beckett and that's it… oh, and maybe that steampunk episode where he was getting friendly with ashley [Image Can Not Be Found]

Having read this thread, it reminded me that I "rewrote" the intro to the show quite a while ago so I went looking for it (that's when I resurrected the "Hot/Sexy vs. Slow/Tender" thread. Bottom line couldn't find it [Image Can Not Be Found]
But in going through all of those thread titles that I have posted to I saw a couple from the summer of 2010 (leading up to season 3) that were rumors and speculations of what s3 might bring. I thought that maybe at the end of this season we go through those and see what happened vs. what was rumored at.
Police Training, an "Event" / Gala where we learn more about Gina and LA/Nikki heat movie and recurring nemesis are just four of the possible story lines hinted at over the summer. (first 2 don't appear to be happening, LA is turning out to be a totally different story and 3XK has only been shown once this year.)

I wish I could find the interview or tweet, but I vaguely remember recently that the police training was asked about, and the answer was that they still planned to do that at some point. It makes sense, so I'm hoping that makes it in by the end of this season (doesn't seem likely anymore) or next season.

The only possible change could be the one suggested in ep 1x7, that RC has had extensive pistol assault training, which he demonstrates by placing three rapid fire rounds in the ten ring of the target, a near impossible task. Since then whenever he's been asked to use a handgun he's never missed, possibly making him the best marksman in NYC.
In fact, NYC has permits to carry concealed weapons; RC has already signed his life away just to be able to ride along with KB, getting that permit shouldn't be much of an obstacle. There would have to be some sort of agreement that he could only use the weapon when asked to by KB.
That would bring us to the weapon itself. It would have to be something worthy of the Castle mystic, a Glock 20, 10mm, semiautomtic, matt black, with a vented compensator to dampen the recoil.
Then maybe those warehouse shootouts where beckett takes on four guys will be a little more believeable, with Castle shooting that hand cannon.

It was mentioned that Martha and Alexis would be spending more time at the precinct which hasn't happened. I believe they said Alexis was going to be interested in Lanie's work and spend more time with Beckett/Lanie too.
dmcw, I remember that tweet you're talking about. It was from the Castle account. It was posted around the time they had a contest where fans could win a chance to ask the cast/crew a question.

My thoughts exactly…. I was thinking that he has earned a consultant's badge at least by now….. but then it would just be another way that The Mentalist and Castle are two very similar shows….. I actually watch both shows… And I love both of them for their own assets but they are two very similar shows created by two different broadcasting companies…. I like to think of them as competitors actually…. Not sure if anyone else feels this way.

I've been waiting for Castle to be given some kind of recognition by the City of New York for his work with the NYPD. This is why I was somewhat happy that he got a medal at the end of Countdown. He certainly has given enough of his time, been in enough life-threatening situations, helped solve enough crimes, and saved Beckett's tail enough to warrant some kind of formal recognition of his efforts.

I remember Ryan (and maybe Esposito) saying that they would get a medal for helping to bring down the Chinese spy ring in ENCOUNTERS, but then in typical government cover up fashion Agent Westfield (Lyle Lovett) says "This never happened"

I could go back and look to get it exactly right, but Montgomery mentions (in the scene where the gang is having drinks) that the mayor wanted to give Castle a medal. Montgomery then says he didn't have the heart to tell the mayor that Castle had no clue what he was doing. So receipt of a medal wasn't confirmed.

At this point, my answer is a definate no for Castle and police training. Maybe late next season or something far off in the future when their storyline is needing ideas. Police training just doesn't fit the current storyline. I wouldn't object to CB defense training though… *cough*
