OfflineI have some things I love about the "Castle" series overall that aren't related to any one character or interaction or story arc.
One of them is the amazingly clean, sparkling fantasy vision of NYC, especially at night. A lot of the establishing shots are just breathtakingly beautiful. I've been in NYC twice as an adult (twice that as a child) (and I know the show's filmed in LA), but even when they go down alleys & such…it's never that pretty nor that magical-looking.
Another thing I love, as an aspiring writer, is Castle's love affair with the English language. I love to read, I love to write, I love films…whatever shortcomings Castle might have as a person or as a believable "assistant volunteer homicide detective", I love listening to him do his thing with the language. I also think Castle's got some of the best takeaway lines in a long time – never having been a fan of things you could put on T-shirts like "D'oh!" as some kind of homage to American culture.

OfflineStana Katic!
Nathan is the one that brought me to the show to watch and check it out to start with, but she is what has kept me here, along with the great writing/directing of Andrew and Rob.
I haven't lost any affection towards Nathan, at all, but Stana is something else entirely.

Cool! I find her fascinating to watch. I'm a huge Nathan fan, but I really like how much the other actors & characters have won my affection. My husband's favourite characters are Ryan & Perlmutter.

OfflineWhen I first heard about the show (that was around the time of the two-parter in season 2) I thought it was great idea for a show. Since I love mystery novels…that part was easy:-) Also, the only actor I recognized was Susan and I've enjoyed watching her for ages.
I love well-written, fast-paced dialogue and great chemistry among the characters/cast and Castle has that in droves.
I got somewhat hooked on Caskett in the season two finale, enough to make a point and watch the premiere of season 3. I watched it regularly from then on and slowly became a shipper. What I really loved was the humor and the excellently done serious episodes. I just think they bring out the best in everyone. From all the characters Kate stood out the most to me, in a way that I could almost relate in many ways to the character and I think that is in no small part due to Stana's acting. Then we had Knockdown, Final Nail, and Knockout and I was completely hooked. I had not enjoyed a tv show this much (the acting, the writing, the concept) for a looooong time. Last year in April i joined this board and have not looked back since ;-)

OfflineBrand new to this site, but I've been a fan of Castle since Day 1. I've always loved crime shows, but was starting to tire of the genre… Watched Castle and fell in love with the way they mixed comedy and suspense and was immediately hooked. I really like the way they incorporate references to the casts' previous shows. It's just a really fun show to watch 2-3-4 and even more times. Each time I re-watch I pick up on another reference or sly comment.

OfflineInterestingly enough I started watching because of the poker club. We have a book club and James Patterson and Michael Connelly are obvious favourites in our book and "wine" club. Nathan and Stana just caught our attention. The chemistry won us over, and now we can't get enough of the Caskett story line. I would like more Poker games, because that's what go us hooked originally, but the romance keeps us glued to our screens each week. Stana and Nathan bring a whole new dimension that actually is indefineable. No rhymn or reason, we just love them.

I agree about poker night! I wish we'd have more of them. The writers' game is the best, but I like the team poker nights and the Gotham City crew.

OfflineI actually started watching the show last year somewhere around mid Season 3. I always watched Bones on Sunday nights and Castle followed so I just stayed up and watched it too. I'm totally hooked on Castle now and Bones is a little ho hum these days. I too only knew of Susan Sullivan as an actress when I first started watching the show. I was like 'hey that's Kitty from Dharma and Greg'. I like her. I was really pee'd off when Channel 7 in all their wisdom changed Castle to Monday nights and I couldn't watch it due to work. I just happened to be in a local music store when they had a sale on and I picked up S1+2 of Castle for $45. That got me totally hooked and I soon found myself chasing down S3 as I'd missed so many episodes due to the change from Sunday to Monday nights. I'm now hanging out for Season 4 to start in Australia. According to Admin it should be in a few weeks time which isn't nearly soon enough for me(even though I have been watching it on the internet
). I have also since bought the three Nikki Heat books too and am about to sit down sometime this weekend and make a start on Naked Heat(I've read Heatwave and Heat Rises). Considering I'm not a novel reader(I read non fiction true crime and history), Ive absolutely loved these books. They're great.
I guess what I love about Castle as a series is the dark and quirky humour. Castle has the best one liners on tv and his almost child like innocence in some areas I find sweet and really endearing. I'm a huge fan of the whole cast, but especially Nathan and Stana. Stana's acting is superb. The story she can tell just by facial expression is astounding. Nathan and Stana's chemistry is electric. They bounce so well off each other it's a pleasure to watch. By far one of the best duo's on tv and honestly I can't see that changing if Castle and Beckett get together in the future(which BTW I hope they do). Such is my new found love of Nathan I've even gone back and started watching reruns of Two Guys and a Girl and I don't even like the show. His comic timing was really good even in his early acting days but has clearly got much better over the years. I have not seen Firefly or Serenity though and I'm not at all a scifi fan so will probably never watch them. Truth be told I prefer Nathan in suits or jeans
than space cowboy outfits anyway.
I hope the writers re-ignite the romance between Lanie and Esposito. I really liked where that was going and was most disappointed it was over before it really began. I'm also interested to see what they do with Gates' character as at this point in time she's really an unkown factor in the mix. I also like the way the relationship between Kevin and Esposito is progressing too. It's good to have two significant non gay male characters as a different relationship aspect to a cop show as most go with the male/female partner direction. I was most upset about the loss of Montgomery as a character and I'm interested to see what comes out about him as the investigation into Johannas Becketts death progresses. All in all there's plenty there to keep me watching.

Welcome, LindaT_NYC! Keep coming back. Post more. Read more. We're all pretty OCD about Castle. I fear that it's contagious. But, what a way to go!
I like the show because it is character driven, literate and literary. As a former English major and writing instructor, I love the grammar lessons. ( I'm not a grammarian, but we should all know what rules we are breaking and have command of the language. )

Hi Bera – I'm an aspiring author too! What do you write? Maybe we can share some advice, tips, etc. I fell for Castle – the show and the character – from the very beginning of episode one. Love the wit, the charm, the wordplay, the insights into the writer's mind. Love the classic film references. The quirky characters, especially the kooky suspects like the bandsaw cat lady and the wordsmith. The visual style of the series is really nice. I'm also glad that they make NYC look all sparkly and pretty instead of the usual drab, gritty style. The off-kilter mysteries like Punked. Not too challenging to figure out but it's a fun ride! And the fans are fun, the fansites (like this one) are wonderful, I like the way that Nathan, Marlowe and crew connect with and actually appreciate the fans.

OfflineWhile sitting in my lounge room this Sunday night waiting for the never- ending game of tennis to finish so I could watch "Knockout" (for about the 10th time), I did some 'surfin' on my iPad and started reading the posts on a different Castle forum that I lurk on but can't make myself join. Why not? Because I am amazed that the people who post there actually watch the show as few of them seem to enjoy it.
Anyway, that got me started on pondering what I love about this show. Well, basically, almost everything! I love anything to do with the Rick Castle character. He is such a warm, funny, loveable man. I enjoy the way Rick's role is written. I love that he can see the awe and wonder and humour of things and yet have the wisdom to raise a child with knowledge, love and affection and do a darn good job! I'm a newish fan of Nathan Fillion because, until I saw the first episode of Castle way back when, I had never heard of him. I never heard of Firefly and didn't watch Two Guy, Buffy or Desperate Housewives. However, his charm hit me from the beginning (and he really is ruggedly handsome – even this season!)
I'm a bit of a shipper but not an insane one. I love the Castle/Beckett scenes from her pulling his ear to him rubbing his thumb on her hand to the freezer scene to the kiss to "you smell like cherries". I love their fluff episodes and the heavy ones. I love how their relationship is developing and don't mind the baby-steps and the frustration. I love how Rick knows that he's her man and I await the day when she accepts it and acknowledges it but I am patient. It doesn't have to be today but once she does, it will be for "Always".
I love how Castle is developing in his relationships with all the other characters. IMO, this is especially true in this season. I love Ryan and how he channels Castle – he really is Castle Jr. I love how Rick's exasperation with his mother in season 1 has developed into a wonderful mother/son bond. I love how Alexis has shown her 'teenage' side and how she knows exactly how to pull her father's strings but knows he will always be there for her. I love how Esposito is really Beckett Jr (as well as her 'Big Brother'). I love 'Rysposito' and the little hand shakes they do when they rescue Beckett and Castle again and again. I even like how Gates is slowly warming to the charmer who is Rick Castle. I miss Montgomery (don't we all) and I wish we saw more of Lanie but, in truth, I'd like more Perlmutter! He is such a contrary character to the rest of them that you have to laugh at almost all his scenes!
In the 71 episodes so far, there are only 2 I liked a bit 'less'. My favourites are too many to name but I am enjoying the Johanna Beckett arc ones. I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of season 4 and then wonder how I will make it through the long US summer while waiting for season 5 (and 6 and 7 and so on!)
I love the humour, the cameraderie of the characters, both on and off screen, and the fact that cast and crew connect to the fans via Twitter and Facebook.
When all is said and done, I sometimes have to remember, as an OCD sufferer, that this is a television show and not real life. While I hope Andrew and Terri and Rob and the rest have enough stories in them that the show will have the run of Gunsmoke or MASH or The Simpsons, I know that somewhere down the road it will come to an end. However, in the meantime, I like that 'Admin' has provided us with a friendly and safe environment where we can all do what we need to to feed our OCD! And I thank Bera for this topic!
PS…now an hour after Castle should be on, tennis is still going! Well, at least the new season starts next week!
