OfflineHi everybody, i'm new on this forum.
i'm french but i'm not bilingual so i hope i won't make too many mistakes.
i disocvered Castle a few months ago and i became a fan. i love the end of the third season and the beginning of the fourth. the episode 7 (season 4) and the look betwenn castle and beckett when she saves him, whow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this serie is really great with a mix between humour and drama, the two main characters and the two main actors (especially stana for me). i like ryan and esposito too and their reactions toward beckett and castle.
In brief, awesome.

OfflineApart from the main two of course it's the secondary characters i find most fascinating, especially Esposito and Ryan (Salt & Pepper as some fans put it and even made a site for them!).
It's the little things.. how they treat each other and that they hang out with each other after work (after revealing that Ryan found his couch on the street Esposito goes "We will never play Madden at your house again!"
), how they both broke down when they learned the truth about Montgomery in the season 3 finale and had no other way to release their grief but to fight each other etc.
The same applies for Martha and Alexis.. i love Martha's optimism and living life large without a second to waste and how Alexis is apparently the more responsible of the father/Daughter duo but still now and then she still is a teenager and Castle steps up to be the responsible and does that very well.
I just wish we'd see more of the secondary characters.. give them a story or two (like the brilliant Kick the Ballistics episode.. Seamus Dever was just brilliant in it).

OfflineStana Katic's portrayal of the character Kate Beckett. The woman does a fantastic job. Her depth of expression and ability to communicate is amazing. I feel like Castle is there as a foil for Beckett, not the other way around. Her performances have developed the character way beyond where I think she was expected to be. AM was smart enough to take advantage of it. This show really has two completely equal leads. I can't think of two other actors who could pull this off like these two have.
The other characters are really fun to watch but they aren't enough with out Beckett.
My favorite episode to date is the Pilot. There have been some others that were almost as good. Deep in Death, Sucker Punch, Tick Tick Tick, Boom, the two parter in season 3, 3.24, Rise, Cops and Robbers, Kill Shot, but I really like the Pilot. Beckett sunk the hook way past the barb with "you have no idea". He twanged her strings good with "never, ever, call me kitten". That rang her bell in a really good way – I think that moment is when she began to trust him.
That level of banter hasn't been here in season 4. Not even close. It can't be because of the situation Kate is trying to work her way out of. The closest was the back and forth in Cuffed.
I'm hoping for them to pluck each others strings more like season 1 and 2 once they are able to date. they can have "in" jokes and language cues that the others don't pick up on. Waiting for that to happen … waiting …. still waiting … maybe something in 15 or 16? One can only hope.

I guess what I love about Castle as a series is the dark and quirky humour. Castle has the best one liners on tv and his almost child like innocence in some areas I find sweet and really endearing. I'm a huge fan of the whole cast, but especially Nathan and Stana. Stana's acting is superb. The story she can tell just by facial expression is astounding. Nathan and Stana's chemistry is electric. They bounce so well off each other it's a pleasure to watch. By far one of the best duo's on tv and honestly I can't see that changing if Castle and Beckett get together in the future(which BTW I hope they do). Such is my new found love of Nathan I've even gone back and started watching reruns of Two Guys and a Girl and I don't even like the show. His comic timing was really good even in his early acting days but has clearly got much better over the years. I have not seen Firefly or Serenity though and I'm not at all a scifi fan so will probably never watch them. Truth be told I prefer Nathan in suits or jeans
than space cowboy outfits anyway.
I am totally not a sci-fi fan, but an acquaintance convinced me to try Firefly because she found out I was a fan of Westerns. I was fairly skeptical, but it only took watching the pilot episode to get hooked. What I love about Castle–the quirkiness, the wallowing in all that's best of the English language, the ensemble cast that is completely fleshed out and of course, Nathan Fillion in all his awesomeness, is what I loved and still love about Firefly. You might be surprised. And if you only watch one episode, I recommend "Our Mrs. Reynolds". It is Nathan at his best.
Oh, yeah, Nathan's nickname on Firefly, courtesy of one of the female characters, is "Captain Tightpants". 'Nuff said!

OfflineI love the actors, the characters and the humour, of course. I like watching crime drama shows but only if the team as a whole works for me. In this team, they really care about each other and it's simply a pleasure to watch those guys interact with each other… their gentleness and their banter. They are like a family, with Espo and Kate being the bossy twins, Ryan being the little brother and Castle being the best friend who hangs around the house all the time and then falls for the sister
Castle has some of the funniest suspects. I often don't remember the case but I remember quite a few suspects, the plastic surgery lady (and the funniest face Stana ever made when she explained the woman's alibi to Montgomery), the wordsmith, the pick-up artists… sometimes the case itself is not that interesting but the suspects are fun.
I love that they do some kind of "real" police work. They have this plain murder board (I LOVE the murder board), the battered manila envelopes… no ipads and huge flatscreens (until Microsoft marched in). They don't just zoom into a surveillance tape and get a brilliant shot of a face and run it through face detection, no, they zoom into a surveillance tape and get a blurred image. I really like that. And I love Castle's old, shabby, probably not very comfortable chair.
The sets are amazing. Visually, Castle is a blast to look at. I have problems understanding people when they speak on tv (which is why I usually watch with subtitles, even when I watch German TV) so when I'm a bit tired I draw most of my viewing pleasure from what I see, not what I hear. Castle is beautifully shot!

I agree with all of this. Well said, Waldkind!

OfflineAgree Waldkind and Little Eve, I also love the suspects. My favourite is the "locksmith". I can't remember which episode it was but he and Castle ended up in the back of the squad car and Beckett was like the strict mom, with her kids in the back seat. It was hilarious.
What I also like is that, when a suspect turns out to be just a hard luck case, like this one, our DD end up helping them get back on their feet in the end. I hope they bring this guy back. He was great.

OfflineI love the sense of humour, the one liners (that often crack me up so much that I miss the next minute of the show), and the fact that when I re-watch an episode it seems to get better. I'm also enamoured with the development of the characters, the relationships and the overall tone of the show that we have seen from the pilot to mid-season 4. I hope it keeps coming.
Finally, a couple of small things: I really enjoy the pop culture references, the eye sex moments (what can I say, I'm a shipper) and the fact that the wardrobe department repeats outfits or pieces of clothing – because honestly, who wears something new every day? Real people have favourite coats, shirts, shoes, etc. that get worn over and over!

oh yes, I love when I recognize something Kate has worn before.
Another thing that I really appreciate: the sissy-friendly cases. True, people get killed, but if there are things like torture or sexual assault they don't really get into details. That's perfect for me, shows like Criminal Minds are too violent for me and I'd really like to watch L&O: SVU because I like the characters but I can't because of their cases.

OfflineThe writing. I love the writing on this show. Of course, the murders and most of the police procedures are pure fluff but the characters have so much depth to them that its very easy to see them a real people.
It's so rare these days to have a show where the plots isn't driven by trite maguffins and brain drain moments simply to drive the plot in a certain direction. And while Castle has all of the bove they all make perfect a resonable sense in the context of their happening.
Usually, I'm in a near constant state of frustration with the plotting on TV shows. Here, with Castle, I've only been frustrated once with last season's two-parter and the false crossroads and even then that was for meta problems rather than bad plotting or characterization. That's a heck of an achievement for over 70 episodes.

OfflineI couldn't agree with you more Fitch/Waldkind, and others who have mentioned Stana's portrayal of Kate.
In the pilot, she is an unknown entity, with nothing to lose. But then she lights up from within to show you this character, and brings Kate to life in a way that is completely unique to Stana. I don't think any other actress would have given the same nuances and expressions like she does with the character Kate Beckett. Nathan of course, we have mentioned before, IS Richard Castle. Between the two of them, they redefine character acting. I never feel I am watching a programme. It really is alive for me. As for the smoking hot chemistry. I think Nathan and Stana were the original inventors of FIRE.

OfflineRight on Fitch.
My fear is that one day Stana has to move on and do other series and movies etc. I will be pleased for her as she will be stretching herself and discovering new frontiers. But that for me would be the end of Castle, and I won't cope. Seriously, I will have to play reruns of Castle on a loop all day, every day.
