OfflineI have been thinking — what does the show look like after Rick and Kate decide that they are a Couple?
If this is being discussed in the "What Do You Want To See In Season 5" topic, let me know and let this thread die
- Does Kate move in with Rick? If Yes, what about Martha and Alexis
- Do they eventually (or quickly) get married? Stana has "interviewed" that she wants them to make little Castle babies. If THAT happens, then what – being a cop becomes a much more dicey proposition – show-wise (yes, I am sure that there a lots and lots of female police officers that have had children). It's not very interesting for Rick and Us to watch Beckett chained to the desk. Maybe that's why AWM & Co. are shaking up the "pairings" — looking to a possible future where Castle is following R & E around NYC.
- Do they "evolve" the show towards "Hart to Hart" where Rick & Kate are off on their own (as PI's)? What about R&E and Lanie? If they move this route, it gives them more "locations" for mysteries to be solved. But what about R&E and Lanie – yep, they are a big part of the show – I love them!
- What happens with JB's murder mystery? Is it solved before or after Rick & Kate hook up. Kate has said that she needs to resolve that BEFORE the relationship can be taken to the next level. She has subsequently stated that it might not be an absolute obstacle to their relationship.
- Other Thoughts / Issues?

OfflineOne thing that I hope is that they don't get too mushy, PDA at the precinct. Montgomery might have smirked and told them to cool it, but if their actions affect work Gates will have a reason to kick him out. Additionally, I think that keeping their hands to themselves at work will keep the UST. I don't think Beckett would move in with Castle until further down in their relationship… possibly not until they get engaged? That doesn't mean I don't think she will spend a lot of time at the loft, but I don't see her giving up her apartment. Lastly… please no , "oops I'm pregnant." It's just too cliche. If they are going to have a kid I would like them to wait until they are living together and ready to start a family.

OfflineGood thread idea.
I really hope their together before the murder is solved. I thought that's what the end of Killshot was all about – that Kate was ready to try to move on, whether or not her mother's murder gets solved.
I'd like to see at least a season (really hoping the whole of season 5) of them just being together. I think this looks a lot like most of the episodes this season, but with less UST/longing and more stolen moments or glimpes into their dating life. I don't think it will ever be the focus of the show…as Andrew Marlowe is all about the subtelty and knows what it's like to work with your romantic partner. There is business to be done, and that business (in this case, crime-solving) is the focus of the day-to-day of the show. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple episodes of "keeping it a secret", but I wouldn't want it to go on for too long.
If/when we see them move in together or get married (I have a feeling they'd live separately until they are married, unless, you know, someone's apartment blew up again), I wouldn't want to see it right away. As I said, I'd like to see a season of them just dating. If that means we never see it (I feel sure about getting a season 5, but who knows what happens after that), I'd be just happy to know that it will happen in Castle-verse future. Alexis will be in college by then, and although I have a feeling they'll keep her local, I'd imagine Castle would encourage her to live in dorms. Martha – I think she stays put. She tried moving out once, and look where she ended up – back at the loft. She adds a lot to the show in the few minutes she gets, and I just can't see them logically fitting those moments into almost every episode if she lived somewhere else (maybe she gets an apartment next door?). I'd be fine with all three/four of them living together in unconventional (and occasionally comedic) domestic bliss.
As for the PI thing…I don't really see it. Kate is a cop. She treasures her job and the way she helps people. I wouldn't want to see her give it up, if not for a VERY good reason (and I want to work with my boyfriend/husband does not count as a good reason). I don't see why Castle can't just continue consulting on cases as he does now, perhaps with a little less time at the precinct and more time talking about cases over breakfast.
I love kids and definitely think they'll have them at some point, but I really have no desire to see Castle-babies (or pregnant Beckett) on the show. Actually, assuming the show lasts for a few more seasons, I think them deciding to start a family would be a good way to end the series. I'm hoping Ryan and Jenny have a baby so that we get to see glimpses of motherly Beckett and "Uncle Rick"…foreshadowing what they'll be like as parents to their own child…I just don't want to see it played out in the day-to-day (and I really don't like when shows portray parenting as if it's a part-time job and throw it in when having a kid around fits the story….like on one of my other favourite shows, Criminal Minds).
I honestly don't see the show changing a lot from what it is now once they get together. Although it can be frustrating at times, I really think Marlowe has developed the show and characters in a really smart way. The show started out much more procedural than it is now. The mix we see now of the procedural elements with personal material (of all characters, not just Castle) is perfect for sustaining the feel of the show once Castle and Beckett are together!
It was fun to think about this, and I really hope we get another 2-3 seasons to see how it all plays out!

OfflineThey would have to be very strategic about a pregnancy b/c pregnant cops go on light duty almost imidiately. They could have her find out in the second of of season ____ and then something happens which makes her go on maternity leave. Then they would have to jump to the end of the pregnancy in the last few episodes of said season when Beckett gives birth during the season finale. The next season would start with her dealing with going back to work. All that said, they could curtail a pregnancy and have them adopt a child. We would get the same scenes of maternalism w/o Beckett having to go on maternity leave.

I really like your "Castle-verse". I, too, would love to see an entire season of them just dating and not living together.

Would make sense to have them dating for a looong time. And when they start dating they will keep it a secret for the rest but they will find out eventually.
And scenes about when Kate is making breakfast and Alexis entering the kitchen.
I love when I come across the pictures of Beckett making breakfast at the loft in "Boom". It's like a glimpse into the future. Always having to get up early for work usually means you don't really "sleep in" so I can imagine her getting up before Castle and trying to do something productive, whether that be going for a run or making breakfast. I don't think she will stay over until they know Alexis is comfortable with the relationship b/c it is very obvious that Beckett tries to be considerate of her feelings.

That would be sooo funny! I can also see their "morning after" being interrupted by a body drop and Espo/Ryan hearing Castle groaning in the back. That crime scene scene will be hilarious too.

HA! What makes that so funny, is that it is so possible LOL
Personally, I don see the show changing that much.
It's primary foundation is the procedural aspect and the relationships are secondary; I don't see that changing. The only thing, I think, will change is there will be little snippets of personal time, discussion, or affections. Whether Joanna's murder is solved or not, before this happens, is neither here nor there, from my perspective. How their feelings toward each other migrate into the procedural aspect of the show, or with other members, will be interesting.
As others have mentioned comparisons with Hart to Hart, as an example, the show was primarily about sovling the case, with little moments here and there of their personal relationship with each other. IMO, it only enhanced the show, and did not take away from its crime solving aspect.
I think the concern for some, is that once they (C/B) are together, the 'edge' is off and there needs to be something to take its place, otherwise what is there to draw the numbers in every week? There are a zillion procedural shows out there, so what will make Castle stand out? For most of us, it will simply be our devotion to Stana, Nathan and others of the cast, but will that be enough to keep the numbers? I wonder and worry too about this.

I think there are numerous "settling-in" friction moments that could be very entertaining to watch from here in the bleachers. There were also times that Mr. & Mrs. Smith had their moments, as did Dick & Dora Charleston (they were a shameless ripoff of Nick & Nora Charles, in Murder by Death), and Harry & Helen Tasker (True Lies). There are a lot of ways to keep things fresh & interesting; these are just a few examples…

Oh my word! Both scenarios would be fraught with scintillating banter.

I've seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and heard of the others you mentioned, but have never watched.
I agree there is a lot of potential for some really great stuff, and the writers have proven they are good at what they do, otherwise Castle would not be as successful. BUT, do their skills include romantic relationships, as well as, the procedural aspect? I would 'assume' the wherewithall to write the tension of a relationship is different than to keep it edgy and fresh once they consummate. I believe this can be done, I just have some anxiety about whether it will be.
Fingers crossed, I very much hope so!

I'm not worried. AWM & TEM have shown that they can do it. They teamed up and acted out the scenes in Cuffed, and if they are willing to go that far at this stage, I'm sure they won't stop there.
