I tried that experiment in my backyard with the metal trash can. The bottom of the can blew out and I got sucked through the inter-dimensional rift and am even now battling sleestacks on the far side of the universe. You might have posted the traditional warning: "Do not try this at home."
You all are too freaking funny!
mutha_nite this made me laugh so hard I spit my half full, poorly designed cup of jo at the cat
…but tell me, what does any of this have to do with C/B and what they look like as a couple?

OfflineI'm having so much fun on this forum –
– just checked the topic heading and realized some of us have strayed from the fold. Oops! So, what does this show look like when Rick and Kate become a couple? Pretty much like it is now, only more so. It has always been growing into more of what it already is. Sort of organic, like people. We don't change, we just become more like ourselves. No worries.
Have a cup of coffee and stay tuned.

OfflineOK, I'll make an offering to which I have attached no indespensible ego, so have at it. A rough outline could go like this:
- C&B have an epipheny about not getting any younger, admit to each other how they feel the end of this season, we "finally" get real kisses, lot of them.
- They date living seperately for a season with occasional overnights. They are "all in" but still grappling with issues like what does Kate do if they get married, then decide married doesn't have to happen right away but they are for sure going to be together forever.
- The overnight frequency increases until it seems obvious they ought to consolidate households but Beckett is still not quite ready to give up her independence, her apartment. She's head over heels in love, but still herself. Castle can be demanding in his house – the incidence of the concert tickets made that very clear. Beckett would not do well in that environment. Castle has to get used to the notion of being in a relationship with a very strong empowered woman where the give and take is balanced. This could take another season.
- Beckett's performance gets "noticed" at the Federal level because her "team" goes outside the box and prevents some sort of huge terrorist event inspite of about every part of officialdom getting in their way – the dragon comes down as part of the end game. This could involve a 3 or 4 episode arc, maybe spanning the holiday or summer break, returns of key characters from other agencies, etc. In the end she gets promoted to be the hands on head (she refuses to be desk bound) of a multiagency taskforce with some special, but long term, mission or other and Castle is invited by a very high federal official to participate, refuses a paycheck because he feels it will make him have to follow the rules, but gets a federal carry permit - Beckett agrees, wants his "rogue" element on her side in this new job. They are still dating, she takes her "team" of R, E, and P with her. They are the NYPD component, the folks from other agencies drift in and out.
- They move in together because it's just too hectic to live seperately. The work scenario continues. AM & Company get to involve them in all sorts of cases. This lasts another season.
- Beckett wants a family. They get married. Beckett can't have kids – an unforseen consequence of her being shot. They are grapplng with that when they are involved in a case that finds them both falling in love with a 6 year old vesion of Beckett who is involved in such a way she, Rick and Kate just belong together, Alexis adores her, so they adopt her. This arc would consume a season.
At this point (5 seaons from now) the character development is as good as it's going to get, there can be parallel developments with R, E, & P. They could go from here with the kid growing up and a string of cases limited only by the writer's imaginations and the actor's willingness to keep at it.
I can't seem to get much farther than that at the moment. Filling in the outline escapes me at the moment, but I'll work on it.

I really like the highlighted idea, but I think moving in together during season 5 might be jumping the gun. Not because they don't want to at some point, but I see that as more of a season 6 step. I said it before, but I hope that they are conscious about Alexis' comfort level with their relationship before playing house all the time. If they know the time will come when they eventually move in/get married they want to start off on the right foot with Alexis. All that said, I can only imagine how excited Castle will be when she just happens leave a toothbrush or shampoo in the bathroom without tell him. Then maybe just happening keep some pjs or casual clothes tucked away. Nothing serious, just little things.
On a more fluffy note- I think it would be cute if Beckett taught Alexis how to play guitar. It would also be cute if Castle caught her humming a musical song, "Sound of Music", and he teases her a lil but then she tells him how it was something she watched with her mom.

Totally agree with the rules, 'cept I would go so far as to say "Rules are made to be broken"…full stop
I've wondered how they are going to deal with the eventual spending a lot of time together issue.
I think most of us realize that to be with someone 24/7 is, or at least can be, difficult. If they are both working and spending a lot of personal time together (eventually) how does this play out with two people who are very respectively independent. Not to mention, is Castle still writing books about Beckett? Has he stopped? If he is still writing books about her, on top of spending time with her at work, and at some point in a romantic relationship with her…..that just seems to be a lot.
Does he start writing about someone or something else, in part, to have a space of his own and to give Beckett a break? What or who would that be? Maybe those who were pursuing him at one point, to write Bond stories, will come back to him, and this time he says yes. Then we could have Daniel Craig do a guest spot, since he's signed on to do the next 5 Bond films ! YES!
(as a side note: did you know that if all the movies he has signed on to do, actually get made, he will have surpassed Roger Moore's number of Bond films. Moore did 1 more than Connery and Craig will have made more than either of them) [edit] just FTR, I was on team Connery, now I'm team Craig

I think Castle will continue to write Nikki Heat books, b/c even though "it's not about the books anymore", that is technically why he's still shadowing her. I would actually like to see him writing more. It would also be cute to see him run ideas past Beckett. I know she kind of gave off a slightly annoyed attitude about being his "muse", but I actually think she's flattered. PLUS… It is the reason he started following her. I would personally hate for Castle to stop writing the Nikki Heat series… It runs through their story.

There's potential there, but I think it would be better for their relationship and fun to have her contributing (in some small way) to story lines that have nothing to do with her, but something or someone else as his main character. I think it would be 'fuzzy' for her to see his writing style and technique and have open contributions, if his stories continue to be about her.

You have a great point about getting ready to spend the time together. My wife and I moved (it was her idea) to the high desert ~75 miles from the school where she taught 10 years before we retired (we wanted our horses in our backyard). My work was about half way. We rode together almost every morning and evening for 10 years. We've since remarked more than once it was great practice for spending so much time together in retirement.
C&B have been spending a lot of time together working cases, but you are right, that is profoundly different from living together and working together, which is as much time together as my wife and I have together now. We have seperate activities and joint activities. I think it will be fun to watch C&B work their way into a stable arrangement. Castle has more practice at it than Beckett having been married twice. But again, I think it's goiing to lead to some fun story telling.
Watching fiercely independent Beckett get her mind around it and accepting the compromise could give AM & company the opportunity for some fun sparks. Same with Rick King-Of-His-Castle having to come to terms with Beckett in his life and home as a full partner. Might be action than two tom cats in a gunny sack at times. I think the walls might bulge a bit, but they'll always come out the other side holding hands, so to speak – that's the outcome that makes it all work.
As time goes on, there are hundreds of little things that happen which come up again and give moments of intense pleasure, the magic of non-sexual intimacy, in a relationship, the glue of joy that makes it all stick together. There is the opportunity to work that in as well. And it would toss a cookie to loyal fans if it was done as something just in the normal course of their life together.

Adding to my earlier outline I could see Gates staying in the mix as the liason between Beckett's team and the NYPD with Gates turning out to be brilliant in her own way, amd making occasional significant contributions to the case of the week. That could be a big win – I'm starting to enjoy her character.

I really miss Montgomery!
I like Penny, and I think she does a great job with the character she plays, but I just haven't warmed up to her place on the show. I think this edge is part of what they want the fans to feel, and part of character and storyline development. But IMO, Ruben, as well as, Montgomery's presence and character fit better. He gave the whole atmosphere of the precinct and interaction with others a more rounded and sincere feel.
I would add to my previous post, that I think Castle could agree to becoming NYPD official profiler for the 12th precinct. All his paychecks are donated to a charity, such as JB's scholarship fund.
It really bugged me when Gates was questioning Castle's purpose, usefullness, or contributions to the 'team' and no one ever came back and said how his profiling has helped on so many cases. Even tho he does not have professional credentials to say he is a profiler, that is exactly what he does and how he contributes to the team.

I think that Castle and Beckett's interaction will be completely different with Gates around than if Montgomery was. Though I think she is slowly warming up to Castle, she hasn't been there to see how good it is for Castle to be a part of the team and be Beckett's partner. Therefore, I think Gates is going to be watching them and their PDA when it does come out that they are dating. Monty might have just shook his head and said, "Cool it guys", but Gates could very easily say their relationship is a distraction and have a reason to kick Castle to the curb.

It took me a while but I worked my way around to the same conclusion. The 4 Musketeers need to be more on their game with Gates. Montgomery was the boss, no doubt about it. So much so that he didn't need to remind them very often – once that I remember in fact "what does it say on my badge?" to R&E. I feel like Gates formality raises the bar a couple of notches higher than Montgomery did.
I really like Ruben and the way he played Montgomery. I miss him, and at first I'd have thought I'd never write this, but I think AM&Company made the right decision.

I sure hope they continue to put out Nikki Heat books. I enjoy them. They are nothing but pure escapest pulp fiction, nothing but fun to read. No subtext, no social commentary, no agenda beyond entertainment, what ya see is what ya get. And I like the back and forth between Rook and Heat a lot. They will never replace Flynn, Connelly, Patterson, Hamilton (Mona Intercept), Sanford, Clancey (up to Executive Order anyway), forsyth, Ludlum, Trevanian, Mitchner, Hunter, or one of my all time favorites in my youth, Alistair MacLean – I remember reading HMS Ulysses by flashlight when I was a freshman in HS because I couldn't put it down, or any of maybe 50 others whose work sits in my library. But I still enjoy the heck out of the Heat series. All of them todate are on my Nook.
