Hmm, I'm not getting that she's that upset about the tag-along anymore. I think she's more concerned about what he's going to write in further books about her. Presumably, by this point, she's finished Heat Wave… or at least finished Chap. 10, lol.

Let's not forget she has also admitted to the Captain on more than one occasion that he's helped them on the really tough cases. She had the perfect opportunity to be rid of him during Deep In Death, but didn't. I think she's not thrilled at certain aspects of his tag along since her police work seems to be more low key rather than Castle's flamboyant approach but she's certainly not closed off to his ideas or help.

It's obvious that Beckett is conflicted about having Castle around.  That's a given.  However, we're supposed to see her as an absolute professional and I don't think it's very professional for her to be constantly whining to her boss about an arrangement that he has already committed her to.  Beckett ain't no Cry.  So what's it all about?  I really think there's more to it than we understand.

Once in 5 episodes is not "constantly".

And she has to be worried at how people in her field are going to view her if they all know Nikki was based off of her. Beckett is most likely worried that everyone will assume that she is just like Nikki Heat.

She may be worried about what happens when her fellow detectives read Heat Wave and discover page 105!!!  They may make an "inappropriate" assumption about her relationship with Castle.  Certainly, there will be plenty of fodder for some "jokes" at Beckett's expense by her fellow detectives.

A Homicide Detective's #1 job is to close cases, and every case Castle has tagged along on has been closed.

Why would a Det. Beckett complain about closing cases? The more cases she closes, the better her numbers look, which is the bottom line to her Bosses

I totally agree! The program is called Castle, Fillion was the bigger star, and every episode ends with Castle, mostly with his family. We got to know a lot about him from the start. And most things are told from his point of view. But Beckett is the more interesting character. Which means not just Castle, but also the viewers wants to peel the layers of the Beckett onion. We're presented with a strong woman – so why doesn't she protest more when her life is invaded by Castle? We know she's a fan of his books, but she is obviously conflicted when it comes to his presence and actions. We get a lot of scenes of Castle's private life. Give us more on Beckett!

I agree with this. And I definately think that Beckett is a strong character and I'm surprised as well that they haven't had a scene with her confronting someone about all that's been going on. We keep seeing a lot of Castle, hopefully they switch it up so we can get more of Beckett.

To quote Ryan: "Beckett isn't exactly what you'd call a 'sharer.'"

We're not supposed to know all her motivations yet. Those Beckett onion layers are gonna come off slowly, to be sure.

I don't think its the tag along that she minds she see's what hes capible of writing in his books. She's afraid that if he makes more books that those books might start digging into the story of her mothers murder. I'm sure that the thought of someone making money off the story of how her mother was killed would scar her for life. Read

My guess would be that this arrangement with Castle has evolved in stages, leaving her to have to adjust in small incriments, which by themselves don't amount to enough for her to threaten to leave her job. At first, he was "assisting" with a case. Then he wanted to shadow her "for a little while". And now, he's all but joined the force. How could she mount a case against any single of those situations without looking petty and unprofessional? After all, no one else sees a problem with the arrangement.

Also, part of it seems to be the structure of the police force. Her captain gave her an order. A detective can't just say no. Her complaints thus far seem to be an effort to let Montgomery know that she's agreeing to this very grudgingly, which may give her some leverage in the future when she wants something he's not in favor of.

Beckett does not want to quit – she loves being a cop and she's good at it.  Probably they'll have to make Castle a detective now too, especially after all he did in the last episode.  Maybe the NYPD has a special title for him like assistant detective CastleCrazy.  Better not let him carry a gun.  It seems like Esposito and Ryan have lesser roles these days, while the focus is on Kate and Richard.

Since we fans assume that Kate and Rickie will eventually hook up, I would say that she is just pretending to be annoyed by the tag-along.  Secretly of course she is in love with Castle, so this new book contract is the best thing that could have happened.  She now has to play her cards just right and let the layers peel off one by one, week by week.  It would be nice to have a bit more flirting outside of the office.

Beckett has closed off her feelings for so long I think she is uncomfortable with how her feelings for Rick have changed.  Avoiding is what she does.  She pulls her head into her shell and hides out from her feelings.  She then uses only her logical self to solve crimes.  Then along comes Rick Castle.  He pulls and prods her and touches her heart and starts slowly to bring those feelings back out of her.  We know someone left her and hurt her from the book signing conversation with Castle.  So I think fear of putting herself out there for a bigger hurt this time are holding her back.  Going to Montgomery and basically saying help me here……but not really wanting him to go either.  She showed her feelings a bit when she thought he was going to run with James Bond and leave her…..so she is mixed up but all in all trying to protect herself I think.  She knows she will fall hard for him given the chance and she is worried it will spiral her downward again.  Methinks…..
