Does anyone know why Castle isn’t available on Blu-Ray? It’s strange because Castle is available on iTunes in HD (1080P). I wonder if the production costs outweigh the number of sets that can be sold to justify it.

I have no idea why ABC has decided not to release blue rays, There’s contact details for Disney (who distribute Castle on DVD) if you want to write to them and let them know you’d really like a blu ray version, the more people that do the more likely they’ll rethink it.

Contact Disney (DVD Feedback & Requests)

You can submit an email via this link

ABC Studios (DVD) Feedback Page
Or Email: disneyinfo@disneyhelp.com

You can call via these numbers

Telephone: 1-800-72-DISNEY (1-800-72-347639)
Fax: 818-567-6464

You can write to the distribution company at:

Buena Vista Home Video
500 S. Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521
United States

I’ve send them a message. Let’s wait and see what they will reply.

Unfortunately I received an automatic reply from ABC. It didn’t even mention DVD or Blu-Ray in it :(

Yeah. I guess a lot of people would probably need to ask for it, in order to get their attention.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Castle is shot on traditional film rather than digital.. though I can’t see why that should really make a difference given a lot of old stuff has been converted to blu ray

I was just thinking of the same thing, it could be one of the reasons. Does ABC/Disney put any of their other TV shows on Blue Ray? Because I know I see a lot Warner Brother’s TV shows on Blue Ray but I don’t really notice any Disney’s TV shows on Blue Ray.

If they have Castle episodes in HD 720p for internet and 1080i for TV then there is absolutely no problem with putting this on Blu-Ray.

Blue laser (I followed the development of the tehchnology for 15 years, and refuse to call it by it’s hip name on general principle) is the new official format – I find it surprisingly chickenshit of the distributor not to release it.

…I mean, Stana looks all the better in full HD glory, really…

That would have no effect on it since film holds about six times more picture detail then BluRay or HD broadcasts can show at the moment and they have to transfer it to digital to broadcast it any way.  Another thing that makes this so puzzling is that Blu Rays have been out selling DvDs for a few years so all the studios have now switched over to producing more Blu Rays then DvD. It in fact costs the studios more now to release a tittle on DvD then it does on BluRay.  This is why so many movie now come with a DvD copy and it is getting harder and harder to find films that only have a DvD release.  The lack of Castle on DvD really does puzzle me.

Everyone has purchased the DVD releases, right? If they hold off on BluRay (blu laser format) release until after Season 5’s DVD release, how much will we be willing to pay for the BluRay™ Boxed Set with interactive menus, and two discs of Special Features? In Dolby Surround Sound. With fold-out pics of cast and crew? and a collectible trading card? Autographed by Seamus Dever? It’s a marketing decision.

I would gladly buy them again.  The price of between $40 and $50 per season sounds about right to me.  Also as I pointed out before it now costs more to produce a DvD boxset then it does a BluRay one.  It really is strange that Castle is one of the few shows out there that doesn’t get a BluRay release.
