I've heard Stana allude several times to the classic film series The Thin Man, in which we have a married couple solving crimes together. I see a lot of similarities between The Thin Man and Castle, except that in TTM, the two leads are in a relationship and this is kind of the backbone of the series of films. The films have such great writing and romantic chemistry which really becomes the focus, rather than the storyline.
My point here is that the film made the mix of romance, comedy, and detective/mystery work extremely well, and I think Castle is more than capable of doing the same. I can see Castle and Beckett in a romantic relationship not that much different than the way it is now.
Indeed.
When watching the show for the first time a couple of weeks ago, discovered by coincidence during one of the very rare zapping sessions, my first thought was:
How incredibly refreshing and enjoyable would it be to see for once somebody being able to transform an early "Remington Steele / Scarecrow and Mrs. King" type of fun smoothly into some "The Thin Man / Hart to Hart" cheerfulness?
If dramaturgy requires dragging the couple-to-be through some hard times, struggling with (not too far-fetched, please-thanks) all kinds of difficulties – why not.
Just make it interesting and enjoyable to watch and don't drag everything until the tension breaks and all gets slack – ok?
Besides of that:
Ms. Beckett seems to have had her share of drama all right, induced by her job
(homicide 24/7 plus having her apartment blown up plus …)
(her personal grief, her father's alcohol problems, people involved being murdered all the time, she herself being shot)
Interesting to notice that people demand her to open up, get softer and have more fun in life.
Contrasting this, Mr. Castle's existence is a relaxed and enjoyable one, both private and professional. No big threats for him on offer (yet?).
There are no huge efforts necessary to be the "nice guy" and savor life.
It will be interesting to see if and how well the producers and writers of the show will / want to manage to level out the rate of loss both characters have / have not experienced until now.
If they do, it could be chance for a great story told.
Oh – and of course they should. Absolutely.

OfflineThey will, and they should.
The past 3 seasons have been a plethora of mixed signals and near misses, but to the audience, the intent has been clear – Castle & Beckett are meant to get together.
The tension in their relationship is caused by their contrasting personalities, not the lack of sexual interaction. Beckett enjoys teasing Castle and reducing him to a drooling teenage boy, she can still make those overt comments and get him all excited, but they're not going to jump each other in the middle of the precinct (thus the sexual tension remains). Beckett is still going to have boundaries, and Castle is still going to push those boundaries. We're not going to see them walking into a crime scene with Castle's hand on her ass, but he's probably going to try it, because it's the type of guy he is. The jokes might get a wee bit more grown up, and I can see Castle gloating to a witness or suspect about how he gets to go home with that. As long as the jokes are still there and it doesn't get all smoochy lovey dovey it can be the same great show.
Alternatively, if they continue to come up with contrived situations to keep them apart, the show will go down hill quick. There's a point of no return with 'will they/won't they' and Castle is at that point now.
Really looking forward to season 4, and hoping that the showrunners realise the Moonlighting curse is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'd love the show to play out like this…so juicy and fun.

Offlineof course they should. and with the way AM is telling this story, may be they will hook up by, say, the end of season 4.
I really don't worry about them losing the spark once they got together.
Both Castle and Beckett have complicated characteristics, and so many things that are absolutely not in common. even if they do get together, those conflicts won't pass away. They will probably mess Castle and Beckett lives even more once they got together, and can provide us sth really romantic, funny, dramatic, with a lot of twists and turns.

OfflineThe fear is, that once they are together, they just don't get all smoochy and lovey-dovey. At this point, the hit mix is the banter with the odd bit of tender, and that balance needs to stay pretty much "as is". maybe if Alexis leaves home, the tender moments could be Caskett moments at home, especially as they open up to each other in small bits. But as soon as they are on the clock, all that will have to stop if Beckett has her way.

I agree. I hope they don't get overly smoochy, especially at work. Being smootchy at work will take away the fire. Let it simmer as they banter back and forth at work then have those cutesy moments at home, both as a couple and family moments.
I don't see that happening. I doubt the writers would do that. I think (hope?) that the writers would keep the integrity of the characters (Castle's irreverant playfulness/Beckett's professionalism) and still allow us glimpses into their personal life. I feel the best way for their relationship to progress on the show would be to keep their personal life somewhat private and continue to focus on the cases and interaction of the whole team. Maybe just a scene here and there of them after work. Just my opinion though.

It may sound weird or inappropriate, but I wouldn't mind a little smoochy or lovey-dovey at work. I'm not saying I would like to see that in every scene. But from time to time I wouldn't mind seeing them try to focus on work and fail miserably. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Well see for me it's like Fruit Loop said, it might hurt the integrity of the characters, especially Beckett, if they get kissy/huggy. She's very nose to the grin stone at work. Yes they allow a lil playfulness/humor, but that's different than macking in the breakroom. Before people bring up Demming I think it's important to understand that those glimpses of PDA had a specific purpose of allowing the audience to see Castle's reaction. So there's no real need to include precinct PDA since everyone will already know about them AND give them crap about it at work. discrete hand holding, Castle putting his hand on the small of her back as they leave or non overly sexual contact when they are alone would be enough for me. Allow that "UST" to simmer at work so they can let it out when they are at home.[Image Can Not Be Found] So I agree that PDA should stay private.

OfflineI don't see them go all cuddly at the precinct, a kiss now and then, yes but not more. Beckett worked too hard for her place in this men's world to risk it that way. But what I really want to see one day is when a case is really really hard and she is upset, I'd like to see her let go and let him comfort her in the break room or so. I love the little scene in "Countdown" after the interrogation with Fallon when her hand is shaking too much to get the coffee and Castle helped her. Scenes like this won't damage the characters at all and they would show how much closer they are getting.
Also I'd like to see a clear difference between "work Beckett" and "private Kate".

OfflineWell… I guess I'm the only one to think that way. Ok, fine. Let's agree to disagree… [Image Can Not Be Found]
Honestly, I don't think that would hurt their integrity. They're human beings, they're not infallible. Letting go a little bit, when they're at work wouldn't tarnish my opinion of them. Like I said, I don't want to see that in EVERY scene at the precinct. But I also don't expect them to kiss only when they're at home. I guess the way they act at work will change once they're together. Beckett's professionalism has never really been tested in a situation like this one. She's never had to work all day long, day after day, with someone she's in a relationship with.

OfflineWhat I think would be cute, is instead of PDA Castle whispering something REALLY suggestive and see Beckett bite her lip and blush or eyesex him up. Or "only if your good today", then turn and continue to work. They are already going to get enough crap from R&E I don't think they need to give the boys anymore amo than they will already have. I would however think a lil shop talk between Beckett and Lanie would be funny

OfflineThe only reason I don't want to see anything like that at the precinct is because I remember some of the comments about Beckett's character/behavior when Demming was around. Or how quickly people got upset when the episode still of Josh kissing Beckett on the forehead was released.
Of course some might be more forgiving because it would be Castle and not someone else. I still think Beckett wouldn't be viewed in a favorable light though.
Alie, I like your suggestion. My response was more about those hoping to see some kissing or sneaking into and out of the break room type stuff.

I posted my own little joke in the what I wanted to see forum, but it fits here too. I'm just gonna' pretend that the "tucked in with the laptop" comment was a lie, and the discussion in Countdown was another way Beckett was trying to get Castle to speak up. The real story is…..wait for it…… DMB is actually gay. That's why only a forehead kiss and NEVER and PDA. Not even when she almost froze to death. [Image Can Not Be Found] So that's the season twist for next season… DMB is Beckett's REALLY REALLY safe relationship friend. too silly for words…

I can't see R&E giving out too much to Beckett, she's still the boss. I do like how Castle sometimes upsets them, and Esposito scowls at him, and Castle gets worried. So I can see Castle getting stick behind Beckett's back.
