OfflineSome more details have popped up about this episode. (There isn't a spoiler free version yet so I'll keep it 'clean'.) But that didn't take away my fears of this episode becoming a cliche just like all those other PI/Film noir episodes in TV series. (Like Moonlighting, Fringe and various sitcoms.)
Silly me. [Image Can Not Be Found]

OfflineThe one in Moonlighting was actually pretty clever IMO. I didn't even mind the singing even though usually I loathe singing in tv shows. I'm too a bit hesitant about this ep, though, from what I read in the spoilers I don't like that role for Stana/Beckett but that's just me. I also really dislike that picture on top of this board, the guys look great but the women…
Winter wrote Cops&Robbers, Anatomy of a murder, the 3rd man, Kill the messenger, a Rose for everafter and Law&Murder. I didn't care too much about Law&Murder and Kill the messengers but the other ones were nice (Cops and Robbers were GREAT). And I like black and white

OfflineCan I ask something? What is "cliche" and why is it so bad? I know the meaning of the word, but to paraphrase a classic movie that was one big loooooong cliche – "That word. I do not think it means what you think it means…."
If you mean "done before", heck, Shakespeare's plays were taken from things that were done before. If you mean "done to death" then I can maybe understand all the hesitancy that keeps coming up on the boards, *but* I don't see this crop of writers being capable of just doing it again. They always seem to come up with a fun twist.
I have to agree with you waldkind about some of the picture above. The satin of Molly's dress is jarring to me as if it doesn't fit the iconic character they are trying to give her. Beckett's dress style seems ill-suited to her body and her hair doesn't seem to be from the correct period for the character they are trying to portray. It's as if they are were trying to shoot for middle ground, modern but retro… And missed just a bit.
As for Beckett being Castle's moll, a good portion of those women may have acted dumb, but were actually pretty smart, pretty savvy at getting by and using the assets they had in a way that didn't seem obvious – something that Beckett does already. I'm looking forward to seeing her character in this different setting. It'll be interesting to see how the writers thread that needle. They have a way of placing these two characters into situations that seem orthodox but with a cool little twist that makes it fun and Nathan and Stana are great at adapting to whatever is thrown at them. So for me, no worries!

OfflineI just re-watched "A Rose Forever After," and I was struck by how good the writing was–lots of subtlety from Terrence Paul Winter. I'm excited for this episode, honestly, just because I love that time period, and the character of Rick Castle is just made for film noir. I'm hoping it's Castle experiencing an episode-long dream sequence–would explain some of the spoily stuff I've accidentally read, 'cause Rick Castle has an amazing imagination.

I'll bet it will be daydreaming inspired by some aspects of the case.

Oh, that works for me, too!
It just has to be from Rick's POV.

I was thinking really hard about this, because I agree–totally not period dress or hair unless . . . it's not a blue dress, but a blue nightgown. That would also account for her hair being down and loose and all sexy and stuff. Especially if this episode is coming from the imagination of Rick Castle. 'Cause of course Rick would picture her in a sexy nightgown. I'm sure it's not the first time.
What a fun way for the PI to interview the moll.

Offlineif it's really Rick daydreaming it could be interesting – would he really see Kate as a smart-playing-dumb woman? I really hope he doesn't. Would the PI and the girl kiss? When it's RICK's dream they definitely would.
A nightgown… that could make sense. I still don't like it. At all.
I hope the PI drives a really cool car

I think it is a day dreaming type thing b/c Beckett and Espo were interrogating someone about the "blue butterfly" in that video Jon posted last week where he "stole a kiss" from Stana… which was the funniest thing in the world!
Oh. My. Gosh. I just watched the video–funniest thing ever. Especially the little "smack" sound when he kissed her and then his face all tensed up waiting for her to slap him silly. Her reaction must have shocked him a bit.

OK, I'm probably the only one on the planet that doesn't know, but what video are you talking about?
