sexysheep, I can definitely relate to your initial response, as that was where my mind wanted to quickly go as well.  But immediately I remind myself of what we have been told by Andrew Marlowe. He has reminded us to be patient but that it will be worth it.  I'm so thankful for the leadership of writers, the cast, and crew who are so connected to this fanbase via twitter, facebook, etc.  They are a special bunch, and the extra little contact just endears them to us even more. (And it helps us maintain our sanity on this wild ride!)  Terri Miller and others have told us Andrew Marlowe is a man of vision and that he is a man who keeps his word.  He has known where this story is going from the beginning, so every little chapter of this story is told with a purpose. It takes us one stop closer to not only where we want them to be, but he is preparing us for what is to come after that happens.  The story doesn't end when they finally do become a couple, and I think he is taking great strides in preparing us and increase that excitement to watch what happens afterwards as they navigate this relationship.  I feed off the excitment and marvel at how far we have come, and am excited for possiblities of their future.

I think I am returning to my initial thinking about this episode.  A fun episode that indulges in the over the top stuff we would love to see our regular characters do every once in a while.  If all the noir stuff comes from Castle's imagination, it should at least give us some insight into what is going on in his head this season.  We have gotten the therapist sessions with Beckett to get a window into her though processes, but not much with him.  He has been playing it very cool this season so as not to push Beckett, but I guarantee the man dreams about her every night. 

I expect the two-parter to have some serious relationship movement for Castkett, so I hope this episode will provide a nice set-up.

I never had a problem with this spoiler/episode from the get go. Why? Because I LOVE alternate universe stories – loved them on the x-files, loved them on Xena. Even if it's just to see that people who are meant for each other gravitate towards each other, no matter the time, no matter the circumstances – I'm just a hopeless romatic who believes in soulmates and for me Rick and Kate are exactly that.

I also love alternate universe episodes. They are fun. They are "what could be". So I really don't care if their dream characters kiss or if Beckett kisses him on the cheek or kisses a bruise away. And regarding that interview… we've had so many interviews like that this season… hinting that something major will happen, something will change their relationship etc and it didn't really happen (yeah, I'm still mad about the last episode) so I don't believe that something big will take place. I'm simply looking forward to that episode because it'll be something different and I can't wait to see the guys in their gangster outfits

I agree.  This should be a fun episode and I will not be bothered if they do something wild with the noir characters.  Actually, I think at this point I would most be frustrated if they didn't have any kissing or a bedroom scene at all.  The writers will undoubtedly do a great job tying the noir daydream into the real life of the show, so I would expect interesting parallels if only symbolic. 

I think the various points about Castle's imagination giving us an insight into his head (or Beckett's if she does any of the daydreaming) is dead on.  One way to give the audience some of the fire and tension that has been on the back burner thus far, is to let us get a glimpse of what Castle and Beckett think about the other but are not acting on. 

Andrew Marlowe is a very smart man and an excellent storyteller.  He probably anticipates the responses we are going to have to all the episodes and is always building each following episode to play on that.  We probably won't have a good idea of what we really want to see in 4x14 until we know where all the characters are at the end of 4x13.

You think the (dream/imagination sequence) story would be complete and believable when they're talking about two characters who are in some kind of relationship (or at least in love, we don't know the details) if they DON'T show any intimacy?
